  • Iotape (Aytap) Ancient City, located on the 33rd kilometer of the Alanya-Gazipaşa highway, is a Cilician coastal city. It takes its name from Iotape, the wife of King Antiochus IV of Commagene (38-72 AD).
The ruins of Iotape, who minted coins in his name from Emperor Trajan to Valerian, bear Roman and Byzantine characteristics. A high cape, surrounded by walls and extending towards the sea, looks like the acropolis of the city. The harbor street is located at the point where the acropolis connects to the land. In the bay located to the east of the acropolis; The bath, temple, basilica and the small single-nave church attributed to Hagios Georgios Stratelates can be seen. There is a necropolis area in the area to the north of the modern road. The monumental tombs in the necropolis are original examples reflecting the tomb architecture of the region.
Although it is difficult to climb the hill where the acropolis is located, the magnificent view you will see at the end will make you forget all your tiredness. When you come to see this place, thanks to the city's location on the Mediterranean coast; In addition to taking a mysterious, archaeological tour, you can also enjoy swimming in the bay where the ruins of the ancient port are located.
