All feathered animals have down... And goose down is the most common one used for pillows..

Why exactly were you washing them?
Because they are dirty...
Mostly, I wash them because of my CDO (OCD). Want to clean them off of dirt or any critters that may be on them. Plus, for what I want to use them for a good and mundane washing of them is needed.
