From golf to atoms, a mostly animated introduction to atomic reactions in weapons applications. Includes a few brief color shots of Hiroshima.
"One of a series of motion pictures produced for general information on the subjects of atomic weapons defense."
- sanitized DOE version, ID 0800091 - original Project number 5001
by Cascade Pictures of California, for the Armed Special Forces Weapons Project
The appearance of U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) visual information does not imply or constitute DoD endorsement.
This film is in suprisingly good condition for 1950 and does a good job of simplifying the various atomic properties and actions. Thanks for uploading it and Merry Christmas!
Very well explained ...better than my physics class back in college
I love old documentaries like these from the 50‘s or 70‘s. No matter what the topic, the narrator is always calm and nice. Even if the topic is nuclear Armageddon LOL.

beautifully presented and what is even more surprising is how well the actuality of information has not decayed, most of it can be applied even today.
My Christmas evening is enhanced by the upload you provided.
These clips will still be valuable decades from now although they will probably be viewed by 6 year olds.
Using the whiskey analogy is a bit odd.
Instead of drinking half of the jug for half life demonstration I'd be half dead.
just started the video but my fav scene is the half life compared to whiskey. Oh the 50's.
Excellent
This explanation video was released three years after the conclusion of the Manhattan project!
Wonderful
5:36 Uranium atomic number 92. Lead atomic number 82. Can I use Lead in my atomic bomb at a discount?
This cartoon is far better to understand physics than our school textbooks and teachers
Its true I relized the term of isotope well
wish i aged as well as this film did
2:28 That's hard to comprehend....that if the nucleus was as big as a golf ball that the electron would be a mile away.
If you had a hydrogen atom model the size of Grand Central Station, the proton and electron would about the size of two gnats with one sitting in the center as the nucleus and the other flying around near the walls. Atoms are over 99.999999999.......percent empty space.
Now explain the fuel cycle in detail and we're off to the races!
Great movie. Atomic minds,
very scientific
I agree
Nothing at all is mentioned about the implosion method.
a Halflife of 4.5 billion years, what's wrong with that estimate? They say the Earth is only 4.5byo, then how did we get all the lead in the ground? did the Uranium decay in space waiting for the planet to form?
Stars explode into space. Look up super nova. Certain types of stars make certain heavy elements. The body that struck at the end of the Cretaceous Age was one such collection and it left a layer over the earth.
Supernova stellar nucleo synthesis. Anything heavier than iron was made through this process.
The electron orbits around the nucleus........forever? Is it an example perpetual motion? I thought perpetual motion was impossible. I still don't understand how they can be so sure that an atom or electron exists without seeing them. How can they be so sure about their description? ....or is it that they are "assigning" a description to them?....for the purposes of consistency.
how should perpetual motion not be possible? will the voyager probes stop one day due to "space friction"? is there "air" inside an atom to brake the electron? who told you this? - the main problem with atoms in the classical model is that a hydrogen atom would be flat, not spherical, plus it would radiate energy due to the electrons centripetal acceleration and therby fall to the nucleus - which both is not the case
@@kasel1979krettnach "will the voyager probes stop one day due to "space friction"?"
Yes.
@@kasel1979krettnach "the main problem with atoms in the classical model is that a hydrogen atom would be flat, not spherical,"
"I think, therefore I am." So if the hydrogen atom is....(or am)....then it must be something more than "flat." Yes?
@@kasel1979krettnach " plus it would radiate energy due to the electrons centripetal acceleration and therby fall to the nucleus - which both is not the case"
Is that proof of God? I am not religious....just asking a question.
@@kasel1979krettnach "is there "air" inside an atom to brake the electron? who told you this? "
"Air inside an atom"??? There is air in our atmosphere.....right? If atoms exist on Earth.....of course they do.....everything is made up of atoms......then why wouldn't they be affected by friction and all kinds of forces?
This fallout 5 cutscene is so cool
Was looking for a fallout comment and not disappointed
why does it have so few views
Did scientists have any idea what would happen when they detonated the bomb for the first time?
yes their predictiond were quite accurate
There was a science fiction TV show once and in one episode a psychiatrist is called in to attend to a scientist having mental decline who was completing final work on America's next super-bomb. The doctor nursed him along until test day where reporters and top government brass had gathered to watch the test. One of the reporters asked the scientist what material he used for the new bomb.....uranium?....plutonium? The scientist answer, "earth." The reporter asked, "Huh???" The scientist picked up a handful of dirt from a flower pot and said again, "Earth." .....fade to white as the planet Earth turned into an exploding star.
11:31 The dam is built reverse of an actual dam. I hope the atomic scientists know better.
Mad Tribe - Drop the bomb
Way too many ads. Switch them off.
I’m here because I watched Oppenheimer.
GET UP! GET UP!
DROP THE BOMBSHELL
Can't believe America really dropped 2 of these bad boys.
its not that much of a bad thought if you realize more people wouldve died if they didnt
the detonation of those two devices should be remembered as an horrific experiment and the worst war crime ever perpetrated
@@himacho8771 Truman knew that Japan was ready to surrender before he ordered the attacks against Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The idea that nuking Japan saved lives is incorrect - a lot of effort has been put into persuading you of this falsehood.
I hope someone does't use this info to make an A bomb.
Roy Futrell yeah exactly. Just go in the woods and it’s like nobody ever knows.
this info is public domain for nearly three quarters of a century
I don't think the average person has access to weapons grade plutonium (thank God), or the facilities to make such a precision device. Just knowing the basics of the theory is still a long way from making an actual weapon. So far, it has taken the resources of nation states, large teams of people to make such devices. So the risk still mostly comes from nation states.
Don't worry David, there isn't enough information here to even get close and the materials and technology needed to assemble one is virtually unobtainable without others being alerted to the attempt.
The heavens declare the glory of the Bomb, and the firmament showeth Its handiwork. Glory be to the Bomb, and to the Holy Fallout. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. World without end. May the Blessings of the Bomb Almighty, and the Fellowship of the Holy Fallout, descend upon us all. This day and forever more.
Almighty and everlasting Bomb, who comes down among us to make heaven under Earth, lighten our darkness. Amen.
And now, i reveal my inmost self...

Whoa whoa whoa now those are women playing golf.

Not watching and unsubscribing. Merry Christmas.
Sam Bananas, keep us informed, thank you! Your feelings are very important for everyone! Merry Christmas!
