- First video in my product spotlight series I am starting. I review an led upgrade for my mini MAG-LITE.
This led upgrade is easy and cheap. Well worth the money. It really makes the mini maglite a very useful flashlight. This light impresses me every time I use it. I still can't believe how bright it is. I would recommend it to everyone with an older mini maglight.

Terralux needs to send you a thank you note. I'm buying it! Thanks!
Mine is still working great. Awesome upgrade.
Just got this and a glass lense. Makes for a sweet flashlight!
Just tried it!!! With iq switch! It works,
Good review, I have two of these, to rectify the thickness issues I have ground down the plastic piece to barely above the barrel. Still thicker than the original but pretty close operating feel to the original.
Still use this light. It's a good conversion.
I found the thickness of the conversion means the head will feel loose afterwards as it doesn't sit as far down on the barrel threads afterwards. That's not a problem as easily rectified by wrapping some PTFE (white plumbing tape) 4/5 turns round it to kind of tighten out the thread gap.
excellent high powered upgrade if you resurrect your older Maglite:) highly recommended at 140 lumens which is bright enough for me:)
+40belowful I love this mod. My light is still working great.
If you have older incandescent minimag this is a great option..... but the new 351 lumens model blows it out of the water.....and also has hi and low.....for about the same price as an older model plus the conversion.....
Nice video. I think this is the first time I've heard you talk! lol
for the same price as the conversion, I can just buy an led mini maglite on Amazon
Hello, does it work with the IQ SWITCH? thanks!
are there upgrade kits for smaller flashlights? i have a mini maglite that takes two aaa bateries
This is the mini Maglite. I haven't seen one smaller.
Not sure. I have not done that mod.
Are you still able to focus the mini mag flashlight after installing the led upgrade ?
+Artie Woo It has less space to focus the lights but the output is so bright I have never had any complaints with it.
figure the run time yet?
Talking on camera is not something that comes natural for me but I am trying :)
The problem with these LED conversion kits is how the thickness of the board the LED is mounted to prevents the flashlight head from being screwed on completely. I put the equivalent Nite Ize conversion on some years ago and have gone back to the Xenon incandescent as all it took was less than two turns of the flashlight head and it fell off, having completely unscrewed and you could not focus the beam! This one is no different. Not only that, it ruins the water resistance as the O-ring no longer seals the head, because it's barely threaded onto the body, even if you crank it down as tight as possible after the light goes off (i.e. 1/8th turn from breaking or stripping something). These conversion kits SUCK! I'm now doing a conversion using 3V 3mm super-bright cool white LEDs, which can plug into the same holes as the 3mm diameter Xenon bulb did, and will fit the reflector with very little modification to the LED (removing its small base flange with a jeweler's file). It's a much more elegant and cleaner solution, not to mention much, much less expensive as the LED's are less than $0.20 each and at 3V from alkaline cells they don't need a resistor.
+jlind52 I have been happy with this light. It works when I need it to and it's bright.
+mossman381 Wouldn't dispute that they're bright, and significantly brighter than the original incandescent. It's how the conversion kit prevents the head from being screwed down as far as it was with the incandescent, and not by just a little. It's barely threaded onto the body afterward. Unscrew it much to turn it on and it falls off. If you're willing to live with that (and loss of water resistance) that's fine. I wasn't. The head kept falling off when I used it. It's why I removed the conversion kit shortly after installing it. These conversion kits have apparently been OK with some folks like you, but read the reviews on Amazon and you'll find there's a substantial number with the same gripe about them.
The more important consideration now is conversion cost versus buying a LED Mini MagLite. The price of the LED version has plummeted in the last few years. On Amazon, a AA LED Mini MagLite is less expensive than the current TerraLux and Nite Ize II conversion kits. (I don't recommend the LED Pro or Pro+ which are exceptionally bright at the cost of a low run time under 3 hours.) If someone were to ask me now about the Nite Ize II or TerraLux kits, I'd advise them to buy the LED AA Mini MagLite. I have one now and it's very bright.
I've still got two Krypton/Xenon Mini MagLites, the second of which never had a LED conversion kit put in because of my experience with the first one, which had its incandescent bulb and reflector put back shortly after trying the LED conversion. I'll be converting both of them with 3mm 3V LEDs which have nearly identical dimensions as the Xenon bulb. Twenty of the LEDs cost less than $8 delivered to my mailbox, and they're a mix of ultra-bright cool white, UV, round top narrower beam and flat top wider beam. When I sort out what works best with some experimentation, I'll have enough LEDs to convert both my incandescent Mini MagLites, plus both of my brother's. That's less than $2 each, which is very cost effective compared to the cost of these conversion kits. You might want to look at how that is done as it's rather simple if you use 3mm 3V LEDs (use larger 5mm and there's more work to mod the reflector).
You spelt Lumens wrong in the title
Yes I did. Will fix asap.
Why not just buy a new led flashlight?
Why recycle aluminum cans and plastic?
the flashlights called maglite not maglight
Not sure why I spelled it like that.
lol..just buy the LED Mag Light.... 15.00 - 18.00
I would rather throw away a bulb than a whole light. This new generation is so wasteful. You will be lucky if your kids have good air to breathe.
