I did not appreciate Beck's subversive sound and videos as a child but I do now. This guy was taking the fork in the road in the 90s and I respect him for it. The music is timeless.

What Kanye did at the Grammys certainly wasn't right, and trust me, I'm a HUGE Kanye stan, but I'll go as far as to say that what he said about art wasn't true. Beck certainly deserved that award for the amount of work he puts into his albums. One guy doing virtually everything. Production, instrumentation, songwriting, mixing, everything. And I love Beyonce as well, but she has tons of songwriters, tons of producers, back-up singers, the works. That doesn't make her any less of a great artist, nor does it make Kanye any less of a great artist. He's a very decent MC, and an INCREDIBLE producer. This was a hit when I graduated high school over 20 years ago. My son is going to cross that hallowed threshold in a few years...cannot help but think he and his friends would be just as in love with it as I was back then, if it were to be released in 2021.
