I’m not entirely sure if Hiller is that out of touch with major sports or if the point of this video was to mislead the viewers into believing that CF is the anomaly and overly concerned with safety. But an ENORMOUS focus of the players union in the 4 major US sports is centered around player safety. It’s the reason the NFL has fewer preseason games and limited OTAs, it’s the reason there’s a concussion protocol before rejoining the field of play. It’s why you can wear a visor in the NHL and a jaw guard in the MLB. Player safety is always at the forefront of the players union, it’s literally one of their only jobs. It’s a weird flex to try and shit on someone for caring about the safety of the athletes in the sport you love. But hey, some of still wish they wore leather helmets in the NFL
@@JAGwerkz They aren’t safer, why? - because Hiller’s boy Will Leahy got injured doing them? I get it, if I was a Mayhem Athlete and Froning got hurt on a step down I’d be pissed too and looking for any explanation on how this could happen. What happened to Will, with such high hopes of qualifying for the Games, is truly unfortunate but don’t get it twisted he was the outlier in this case - compare that to the good ol’ bounding days where a number of athletes tearing their Achilles at a competition was more the norm than the exception. If the alternative is doing a 40in jump down and a rash of athletes twist their ankle on the landing, then what? The goal of all of this isn’t to eliminate the risk of injury but to mitigate it. The same way a you can still get a hockey stick under a visor and concussions are a weekly occurrence in the NFL. Step downs are moving the sport in a safer more sustainable direction for athletes.
CrossFit 2024 open participants: 345k. First open was in 2011 Hyrox 2024 race participants:210k. First season was 2017. I would say Hyrox is coming for the top spot for worldwide participation.
And don’t forget a very important information is that in Hyrox the participation is on field and not online I’m 100% for CrossFit, but when it comes to the competition aspect for regular athletes, Hyrox made it way more fun and accessible
The main difference is that the CF Open are an online competition, and Hyrox is actual on-site competition. CF comps are organised inefficiently: A lot of time & effort for way less spots (like 10x less)
Why do Crossfit athletes hate to run? 😅 Hyrox races are a blast. The value proposition is that anyone can finish the race. When I went Worlds in Nice this month, I got to spend a little time with some Hyrox staff. They had 65K people enter the lottery for 15K spots for just the London event. 🎉
HYROX is FANTASTIC! I love running, and I chose to go to Anaheim for my first HYROX instead of competing in the CF semifinals, won my age group, flew to Nice France to compete in the world championship where I came in seventh. It was the most amazing trip. 4000+ competitors to go for niece. It was absolutely incredible meeting so many wonderful people from all over the world. Friday night lights doesn’t give you that feeling! Hyrox is making a lot more money by hosting worldwide events for the every day person. I love going to my box every day, but the competition for the open/quarters/semis are once a year. As someone who likes to compete, how do I fill that void? Thank God, I heard of HYROX! And I’ve seen Hunter up close on two occasions recently, and he looks like a freaking beast! He was a beast when I knew him back in OCR days, CrossFit it was a blip for him, and Hyrox rewards the taller athlete and the athlete who is a good runner (Hunter). Just like Spartan racing, someone could beat you through an obstacle, but if you could run, you could catch them and pass them and ultimately beat them in the competition. I will end by saying cross that makes you better at everything else and it’s a great methodology. Thanks to GG. But Hyrox is a ton of fun and it is not easy. Have you looked at the weights on that sled push and that sled pull?
I don’t do hyrox weekly. But the reason I’ve done the competitions is because I’m an average athlete that will never get to any CrossFit competition. 1 change that I think would be amazing is if CrossFit held a hyrox style competition a bunch of times throughout the year. I say style not as in running 8k but as in a set of WODS with equipment stations where you can get 10,000 people through a WOD in an hour or so. You could have the RX and scaled divisions like hyrox has. That would be super cool to have something for the amateurs like me that want to do a comp 2-3 times a year
I had a dream for many years, that CrossFit would organise a competition called Benchmarks, where they choose 5 to 7 benchmarks to be done during a two days competition worldwide tour,
@@thebarbellspin at the end it’s easy to organize, no need for 25 categories and it’s the essential of CrossFit, let the athletes enjoy the journey and getting better every year

I think Bill's achilles blow out could have been triggered by the jump and landing of the rope climbs in that workout. If we're really talking safety, dropping from the top shouldn't be PFFA approved. Oh and btw... no hyrox athletes could just show up at a crossfit comp and do well next weekend... but throw a competitive crossfit athlete into a hyrox comp tomorrow and they'd be at the top.
Hyrox is for people that hate lifting weights aka runners. This will take a chunk out of the fitness pool, but only the people that think CrossFit is too tough. And honestly, doing the same workout over and over would be boring af
People that hate real fitness. Running is only one aspect, and is more a byproduct of true fitness. Runners can do small pushes to improve a PR in one aspect of exercise. Whereas a hybrid athlete needs to program across all muscle groups.
It’s an interesting argument with the will leahy injury. You can say the box step down was the cause of his injury but you can’t neglect the multiple variables. For each rope climb he would jump off from the top of the rope (15’). That is a hell of an impact on his achilles over time. They probably should have put rule on the drop. This is probably the biggest factor of his injury. Another is the impact of his achilles from the previous events. Recovery, is another. His body probably wasn’t ready for these works back to back and maybe should have rolled out and mobilized more. Either way he was the only athlete that we know of that injured his achilles up until the 3rd event. So we cant just blame the event and focus on safety just based on his injury when no other athlete was impacted.

Brent is more right than you are and its a weird issue to take. Should football players wear helmets or the leather straps they used to wear? How about fields... Should they be grass or grippy turf? Safety is and always will be paramount. Furthermore your point at the end literally highlights why its so weird you place emphasis on the CrossFit Games meaning so much to the CrossFit ecosystem. I signed two doctors up this week. They have both heard about CrossFit from other people at the hospital that I train. They didnt sign up sooner because they thought they were not capable of doing whatever CrossFit is. The Games is what can be done with CrossFit, obsession, and time. Not everyone cares about anything related to the CrossFit Games season and the guy that inspired the doctors to come in is a 49 year old doctor that has priorities to move well and live longer and healthier, not Tia or Adler or Lowen.
What pressing safety issues do you think there are in the CF Games? And the idea that safety is paramount is meaningless prattle for the sentimental. If safety in the NFL were truly paramount, they'd have to turn it into flag football at the very least. There's hardly any sport where safety is paramount.
We need more Doctors that take exercise seriously, as well as diet. Rather than the Sickcare mob we have today that got into the profession for the money.
Some might argue that the high tech helmets and padding have created a different set of concerns and injuries. And the synthetic turf has shown to cause more injuries than regular grass.
safety is always paramount? If that were true, there would be no sports at all. Safety is a non issue at CF for anybody that wants to bring more eyeballs
@@thebarbellspin yes. I'm arguing against turf. It's not safe, so is the NFLPA. Helmets allowed the game to evolve from a rugby variation to the game it is. There are always risks. Risks can't be always taken away, however, what risks are necessary at a given time.

The thing I find with CrossFit is - it’s by far the fastest growing sport in terms of progression. How easy the top guys make CrossFit look and how high the bar is set continuously gets higher and higher. People progress through CrossFit but then compare to other people and be like I’m still “at the same level” when their progression has been just as much, if not more, than those of the top people. Throwback to workouts 5-6 years ago the top athletes generally blow those times/scores out the water
Serious question, how come Hyrox is all over the world using places like LA Convention Center for events, obviously transporting equipment, probably needs a ton of volunteers & staff for events, & they seem to be financially killing it, & CrossFit has similar logistical issues & losses tons of money on their events?
Just my guess, but CF has had so much exposure that most people have already decided if they’re into it or not. Hyrox is new and I think can appear to be more accessible for your average fitness enthusiast (lots of similarities with Spartan, Tough Mudder). CrossFit also doesn’t host lots of events open to the public the way Hyrox does, so they’re kind of apples and oranges. I may come back and add or edit this because I’m still forming this thought… but I think the business models are a little different and lots of it comes down to Hyrox being a new unknown thing to many people whereas CF has been around a decade and a half on a world wold, highly visible level.
What I've picked up is that it's the same single test/event/challenge performed at one venue under slightly different conditions (weather) - this means that setup and equipment acquired for the athletes is uniform across Hyrox events worldwide. The Crossfit games are a lot more complex when it comes to equipment, setup, location and events, weather, and even spectator experience - which differs based on moving between outdoor and indoor venues.
@JJ-zr6fu ??? Crossfit is currently one tournament. The golf and tennis models would be great for them so they could have a regular season and post season like real sports. Having a regular season would be great for fans and allow the athletes and businesses in and adjacent to the sport to grow.
CrossFits biggest mistake was getting rid of their media team. The second one was jacking around with the standards. Third would be it’s obsession with adding complexity.
CrossFit needs to rebuild their media team that is how they built the culture and the interest. Killing the fat season 1 vs season 2 shows how much they missed their mark b
What if you had each athlete with there personal judge but then you have like 4 judges that constantly change/ rotate athletes so occasionally there's two judges on 1 athlete but the 1 that roams power to override the personal judges call ? That way there's consistency happening cause 4 judges are rotating the whole roster but the personal judges kinda maintain the rep to rep movements ?
No professional sport is "safe". They aren't meant to be. Standing inches away from a 100mph bullet isn't safe, you put on a helmet and roll with the risk. Being overly "safe" is ruining sports, mainly football. It's a joke. Everyone knows what the risks are and sign up anyway. Some would call that being a competitive athlete.......
Hyrox is more akin to a standardized Spartan Stadia race. Spartan and Tough Mudder do just fine and are geared towards everyday people. The thing that will kill hyrox is the fact that it stays the same, whereas Spartan and Tough Mudder change, even in "stadia" type races.
Andrew, I know you have seen Castro's latest WIR and Don's interview with Pedro. You have never been one to back down . . . and now is not the time to start. Castro is falling on a sword of what CF USED to be before the woke culture descended upon it. His loyalty is misguided at this point. For the record, like you and millions of others, I love CF methodology. The problem is CF HQ is now part of the woke culture that is devoted to ESG/DEI. WE need to drive this cancer out of society. YOU have more support than you might even realize. Dave needs to get on the 'right' side of road. Hard to believe this needs to be stated given his loyalty to Greg and his knowing what the woke cult did to Greg and the CF brand.
I’ve said it before, but I think CF should have a subsidiary competition for those who didn’t make the games. Every year you have good enough names who didn’t make the cut for whatever reason. Of course people would watch a comp with Self, Mertens, Koski etc. Would it be profitable? Who knows. You could make the Games top 30 even, if you wanted the subsidiary comp to be a higher calibre. In general though, what I’m saying is CrossFit need to take more ownership in providing the opportunities for athletes throughout the season. How can they expect a sport to grow when it’s a once per year comp and people can move as out at Open/QF/SF for a variety of reasons, and that’s CF writing them off till the next season. CrossFit wants to grow, and yet it allows third parties to control the media, entertainment, the merchandise, and the off season comps. I don’t get it.
Not really. It died when they removed themselves from social platforms and got rid of a good media team. It’s died more with having a leadership circle that is not about the sport. Buttery Bros prove time and again that a media team with passion drives a sport.
Calling HYROX "CardioFit" is a fine initial reaction. But take a closer look at the stations. Can the average male runner push a 152kg sled? No. I've done CrossFit for years, but right now I'm training for a HYROX event to test my fitness in a different way. Comparing the media created by HYROX to that by CrossFit is also interesting. HYROX is way ahead.
Make open 5 wods more party!!, bring the regionals more festivus!!, move the game to europe more fans!! Semifinals in US soil was a joke with attendance.
Andrew, dig your content but I think there is a bigger topic here. There is the majority for whom CF is a HEALTH/FITNESS methodology and, MAYBE, once a year competition (The Open). THAT is the core and essence of CF. THEN you have the minority we will call the ELITE athletes trying to make it to the CF Games and other prestigious off-season competitions. Trying to make a living through CF competitions and 'branding.' You have CF health/fitness (majority) and CF sport (elite minority). Rather than write an essay on how CF could/should manage/promote/improve BOTH . . . I will leave it up to you, others and CF. Personally, I think CF as we knew it is dead thanks to the woke crowd that pushed Glassman out, and woke private equity that moved in.
@@grego8992 Wrong! That is like saying NGO's are not part of the government. Like saying the Patriot Act was patriotic. Tennis is all tournaments
@JJ-zr6fu ??? Crossfit is currently one tournament. The golf and tennis models would be great for them so they could have a regular season and post season like real sports. Having a regular season would be great for fans and allow the athletes and businesses in and adjacent to the sport to grow.
You go to a hockey games for the fights, you go to the car races to seethe crashes…….Right or wrong the spectators want to see the edge of safety.
The ‘gaunt looking Ethiopian’ comment was odd
Was a bit "2000s humour" yeah.
No for a fact it was rich froning complaining about the shuttle runs in the rain.
CrossFits biggest mistake was getting rid of their media team. The second one was jacking around with the standards. Third would be it’s obsession with adding complexity.
2015 was peak CF for me. I consumed everything CF media back then. Gawd I miss those days…
CrossFit needs to rebuild their media team that is how they built the culture and the interest. Killing the fat season 1 vs season 2 shows how much they missed their mark b
2014/2015 was a great era, dont think will ever get back to that though sadly
What if you had each athlete with there personal judge but then you have like 4 judges that constantly change/ rotate athletes so occasionally there's two judges on 1 athlete but the 1 that roams power to override the personal judges call ?
That way there's consistency happening cause 4 judges are rotating the whole roster but the personal judges kinda maintain the rep to rep movements ?
“You smile too much.”
“That’s racist.”
It’s like the “Seinfeld” where Uncle Leo’s like “this food is terrible. Who ever made it must be antisemitic.”
I liked this purely for the mid-sentence burp.
They won’t take over until the hyrox champ also comes and takes over CrossFit
and that ain’t happenin
Yo
Time 2 go bald dude
Yeah Jay Dacoons oozes " make CrossFit cool "
Agreed Jeff does not really promote crossfit but crossfit also does not help them either.
How many external drives do you have and what sizes?
Crossfit maybe should turn to golf? PGA tour but for CrossFit?
Does Men's Health REALLY care about or even understand CrossFit as a methodology?
3 people doing Hyrox is not a lot of people.
Anyway, "Regularly learn and play new sports"

ATHX ??
Fikowski v McIntyre 2026 Hyrox World Championship.
CrossFit died with Floyd19, sadly.
Yeah, that might just be right, sadly.

Completely disagree with Boz and Castro comment. Keep double cross over SLIPS dude far away
10:46 - consistently inconsistent
Andrew, dig your content but I think there is a bigger topic here. There is the majority for whom CF is a HEALTH/FITNESS methodology and, MAYBE, once a year competition (The Open). THAT is the core and essence of CF.
THEN you have the minority we will call the ELITE athletes trying to make it to the CF Games and other prestigious off-season competitions. Trying to make a living through CF competitions and 'branding.'
You have CF health/fitness (majority) and CF sport (elite minority).
Rather than write an essay on how CF could/should manage/promote/improve BOTH . . . I will leave it up to you, others and CF. Personally, I think CF as we knew it is dead thanks to the woke crowd that pushed Glassman out, and woke private equity that moved in.
Private equity is the opposite of woke. It's ultimate capitalism...opposite of woke lol
@@grego8992 Wrong! That is like saying NGO's are not part of the government. Like saying the Patriot Act was patriotic. You also seem to think capitalism and 'woke' are mutually exclusive, when they are currently married at the hip. In short, you are lost. Probably way too late for you to catch up at this point, so best to simply say CF private equity is woke as sh*t to keep things simple for you.
@avera9636 you obviously don't know what woke actually is and just label things you don't understand or don't benefit you that. Private equity intent is to turn profit....literally the opposite of something that is truly woke
Performative woke like changing a profile Pic to a rainbow isn't woke lol
@@grego8992 Wrong! Too wrong to even debate. Good luck! You are going to need it.
What’s the “no no no no no no” clip from?
The Walking Dead, I think.
I'm pretty sure it's from The Punisher, during a flashback Frank has of his family getting killed.
Men’s health guy says 8times men’s CrossFit champion. 🫥
lol caught that too
I was thinking.... damn, I just learned something from Men's Health for the first time ever.
Cut him some slack. We’ve all made mistakes. I’ve won the Games 11 times actually 😘
@@Fikowskibrent can you make a reaction video to this on your channel? Am curious what your response to Andrew’s thoughts would be.
Brent... Champ of the hearts! ❤
Sorry about your truck, if they total it ask for the Market Survey and see if they used the right Year Make Model , mileage, and condition to determine the value of your truck, I am a total Loss Adjuster....just sayin, got a family member $700 more due to error I found in that document
Hyrox model seems way to similar to ToughMudder. Same layouts every time, just a different setting. It will fade away bc the participation will go down unless they change movements every year
I see it like a marathon and 5k/10k - you know what your personal best time is and the goal is to beat it. That's what some people want to do and Hyrox is targetting that market. Look how popular Murph is every year with CFers
@16:00 Rick Sanchez burp out lol
Is CrossFit a sport ?? Or have we made it what it’s not ? If I look at the pyramid sports at the top as something you do as a result of CrossFit ? It’s all so confusing? Or it’s no. O Well
To much steroids
8x CF Games champion
You are wrong on bill, as his achillies went on the step down that just means the tendon was already compromised, either by excessive volume and recovery imbalance or another earlier event

How deep was the hole that you buried Bryce in?
