The Hidden Gem of Bisley, ENGLAND: Autumn Walk in the COTSWOLDS

- Bisley is a picturesque English village located in the Cotswolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England.
Bisley is known for its charming stone cottages, traditional architecture, and its location in the scenic Cotswold Hills.
The town is situated partly on the acclivity of a hill, and partly in the vale beneath it, which is watered by a small stream. The streets are irregularly formed, and contain houses dating back to the medieval period.
The English village has always remained small. An attempt in the late 17th century to establish it as a market centre met with little success.
The seven wells were given a new well-head with 7 spouts in 1863. There is a yearly ‘wells dressing ceremony where after a short service in the church, the vicar, a band and villagers proceed to the well where the well is blessed and decorated with flowers.
Roman artefacts have been found here and two Roman altars excavated near to All Saints Church are now housed in the British Museum

In Cornwall, Holy Wells are revered and respected. The Seven Wells at Bisley is a very significant Holy well, also known as "Healing Wells". These wells were so called because many years ago, there was no water sanitation and it was safer to drink ale, although very weak, as this was boiled before being drunk. As the water into the Holy wells is filtered through the chalk of the local landscape, they also contain minerals which had certain medical benefits when drank. I hope you don't mind me submitting this, but, it is a particular interest of mine.
