I've been using a KINGrinder K2 for the last 4 months. I love the quality and the grind variability. After looking through CoffeeCZcams, I was almost convinced that I would never be able to make good drinks at home for less than thousands of dollars. After watching many hours of coffee CZcams and understanding what was important about dialing in, I would go to my local favorite cafe and order a flat white once a week and come home and make myself 3-4 more drinks to try and replicate their drink. I would say that after 2 weeks, I got the espresso right and that the milk frothing took me three weeks to get right. And now, armed with a KINGrinder K2, De'Longhi Stilosa EC260BK and a few budget accessories (tamper, distribution tool and good cups) I can make espresso drinks that are comparable to all the best shops in Dallas, TX and even impress my barista friends that work with big money industrial machines.
I can make beautiful and delicious espresso drinks at home with a total spend of near $200. The KINGrinder K2 was the key to unlock my home scientist process to replicate the drinks from local cafes within about 5 grind attempts.

White label Chinese grinders (very similar to this one or Timemore products) have been good for a while, and specialty grade national coffee is quite accessible making the best result for something that an average Brazilian can enjoy.

James, i think it is time to revisit the current state of hand grinder. Timemore has done so much since the last time you reviewed hand grinder and provided us many customers with cheaper choices for fine espresso grind (still use Timemore Chestnut C3 Nano & agree that it is arduous & painful task to grind as fine as Turkish Coffee kind of fine, but they have been quite enjoyable for manual espresso maker - no need to be too fine, just salt-like). Also, as an owner of Hario MSS-1DTB Slim grinder, I don't use it anymore since i got Cafec Tsubame TM-18 Mill, done much better results for a ceramic burr and it has been my favourite for pour over ever since.

A couple notes. The KINGrinder grinders usually come with an additional gasket that can be swapped out that allows the lid to be used with a drill. At least, the k lineup does; I'm not sure about the p lineup.
Also, the k0 and p0 burrs are copies of the Timemore C2 burr. The other burrs in their lineup may be copies of other popular hand grinders also. The p0 has the same burrs as k0, and p1 the same as k1. p2 has a new burr that's like a mini version of the k6 / k5. The p and k lines are otherwise the same, afaik, except p is plastic, k is aluminum, k has a bigger catch cup and and 40 clicks per rotation compared to p's 30 clicks.
Edit: I said the p2 burr was the same as the k2 and that's entirely false, so I fixed that, above.

The K2, K3, & K4 all share the same burr shape. The K2’s burr is uncoated while the K3/K4 are coated. The K4 has external adjustment while the K3’s is internal.

When you are coming from pre-ground coffee or blade grinders, almost any hand grinder is a noticable progress. Six month ago I walked by a Tschibo shop (biggest specialised coffee retailer in Germany) and noticed that their hand grinder was on a special offer; 14.95€ from 29.95€. I had watched some of James' vids here and toyed with the thought of buying a grinder anyway, so I went in and got one. It has a ceramic burr and I did not expect much, but have to say that thing changed my coffee experience drastically. If your theory is correct, then the Hario should taste much better than before, closer to the P1 (possibly even a tiny bit better since the P1 has more fines). Surely, a hard cut at 15000 microns will also change other things in ways I'm not anticipating, but I think it would be an interesting data point.

I'm going to comment having only read the title of this video because this is the exact grinder I have been using for the past 3 months, and is my first and only ever experience with a coffee grinder. I wanted a 1Zpresso after watching your and others videos, but couldn't justify the cost.
Now I can't justify the upgrade because the P1 is rock solid for people like myself. Someone who wants a hand grinder but isn't concerned about dialing in the best possible grind - moreso just wants something satisfying to use that gets the job done. Which is exactly what it is.

Great video! I have the Kingrinder K1 which I bought for 60 Euros (roughly 57 pounds) and it is simply amazing. Zero retention, robust, hefty, well built. I got great results for Moka Pot, Espresso and even Turkish.

Definitely exciting. I'd like to give the Harrio it's due credit though. Before I could get any equipment, I was given a super old one as a hand me down and it showed me the beginning of the path to better coffee. It represented a great value until now.

I went through several handheld grinders and settled on the TIMEMORE Chestnut C2 Manual Coffee Grinder (25g capacity). It has a Stainless Steel Conical Burr. It produces a uniform grind with minimal residual fine/dust particles. It's all metal and feels really good in the hand. I don't have the equipment to measure the grind particles, but visually the grounds look uniform without an noticeably large chunks. I purchased it on Amazon (US) for $50 a few years ago and use it at least once a day for the last 20 months. The grind quality is pretty much unchanged since it was new. It's a little more expensive today, but it does go on sale from time-to-time.

Bought a Timemore Chestnut C3 during the pandemic, possibly the single best thing I bought the entire period in terms of value for money. Current prices even now are under $40 USD in local currency.

Same, bought a C3 during the pandemic. It's not as cheap as KinGrinder P1 but it's very cheap for the quality you get. Sometimes I even brew espresso with it and it's not a total disappointment, which is very surprising for a $50-60 hand grinder.

Fantastic and informative video, as always, James!
Not being a patron, I don't expect this to be taken seriously, but I have a video request / suggestion-
Accessibility for people with various disabilities of the various techniques for making coffee (possibly with a comparison of pricing for getting what you need for it, as many of us have limited income).

These grinders are excellent, I've got the K6. Solid construction, double ball-bearing supported shaft, and the shaft itself is solid enough I'd have no gripes driving my car over it. Easy to clean, nice clickety clack changing of settings. I think now that the Coffee Messiah has endorsed it I can probably sell mine for profit haha.

The hand grinder is a decent workout, and coffee at the end is an effective motivator. Some days, it's the most exercise I get.

I used to have two Hario grinders, the Skerton & the Slim Pro. They served me well for years, but the time had come to get a new grinder. I got the Kingrinder K4 for £88. The difference was night & day. I use a Moka Pot daily, with an Aeropress from time to time, & I realised very quickly that the coffee I'd been drinking before was not great. The Kingrinder K4 lifted the same beans I'd always used to a different level. The flavour was richer, deeper & it was the perfect base for my morning flat white.
I live on a very tight budget & the K4 is possibly my best coffee purchase to date. Kingrinder really seem to be onto something. Long may it continue.

13:33 did this once, broke the grinder. Wasn't even my grinder 😓
To anyone about to try to use a drill; DON'T use the chuck to clamp onto the grinder. Find the right sized socket that will fit the grinder.

I don't think you're being harsh on the Hario James, it's £30 as you said and 15 year old (at least!) technology. I have one, bought because of your old video as a starting point (the Porlex was more than double the price of the Hario at that time, haven't checked lately), and whilst it's not that much fun to grind with and was swiftly replaced by a Wilfa Svart for home use, I still have it as a travel grinder because I don't travel enough to justify a pricey hand grinder. For years you couldn't get better than the Hario at the price point, and anything else at it (like the Ikea grinder you also tested) was probably unusable.
This is probably an example of what I often see in cycling (and lets face it, most cyclists also love a coffee stop!), trickle down tech.

I was so surprised to see that grinder in James’ s video! Because it looks a lot like my first hand grinder, and wow it is!
It‘s from a Chinese company who specializes in hand grinder. From I gathered, it has two products lines, P0-P3 is more for pour over, K0-K6 is the main line which can be used for espresso, moka pot and pour over etc. I used K3 with my moka pot for a long time, my first fresh coffee grinding experience. I find the price acceptable, and the grinder is quite capable, the coffee is delicious.
The brand is actually quite famous in China’s coffee circle now. I am glad to see it made into broader market.
