World’s TALLEST Inverting Loop?! | Meet Fantasy Island’s Odyssey!

  • What’s going on guys and welcome back to the channel! In 2002, roller coaster manufacturer Vekoma would unveil the world’s tallest full-circuit inverted roller coaster at a height of 167 feet, though it no longer holds that title. With 5 inversions, this custom Suspended Looping Coaster also featured the world's tallest inverted loop, and has had some pretty significant modifications made to it over the years. But what is this giant among giants, and where did it come from? This is the story of Fantasy Island's Odyssey. 👑🎢

I've ridden this many times, and I can safely say that this is the best SLC in the UK (I've not ridden any outside of the UK). Odyessy is rough, but it gives the Coaster character. It's not so rough that it's unbearable like the other SLC's I've ridden.
The best invert in the UK though has to go to Nemesis at Alton Towers. That Coaster is on another level.

We got another SLC over here in flamingo land called kumali and its first drop is over a lake too. I must say I do Prefer the fire whip colour scheme & hotter locale!

As someone who lives in the UK this ride is pretty good! I’d rank it in the top 5 just for the unique first drop! I’m sure people will agree that the two main issues for us in the UK is that 1.) it is temperamental, and seems to always be closed 2.) it’s located in out of the way, not enough rides to make it a full theme park day!

the odyssey is an interesting one. I happen to work on the yellow beast of the east coast, further details on its construction the foundations are nearly as deep underground as the coaster is tall as the site basically sits on sand and they had to dig right down to bed rock its also why the supports are so much more heavily built than other coasters of the same scale and why the estimated cost is so unbelievably high for a coaster that features absolutely no theming or fancy station building the true cost went to the grave with the parks owner at the time the coaster was built. its still plagued with problems to this day and suffers frequent downtime not only because of the wind but because of issues with wear on the train. problematic coaster for sure...

I rode the Odyssey, I have to be brutally honest. The ride, I'd give it a 8.9 / 10. You hit your head every turn you go, you can't breathe for at least 10 seconds when your going down the drop and the braking system is too harsh. It gives you whiplash. It's a really good SLC coaster. But to be honest, I prefer the Millennium coaster at Fantasy Island.

I've still yet to ride a coaster with as much intensity on its first drop as this. The constant falling feeling this coaster produces on its first drop is insane followed by the g forces pushing you into your chair as you go round that incredible loop! and the design just makes it ominous and thrilling. Personally this coaster beats all the coasters at alton towers IMO And most of the ones at thorpe park, chessington-we wont even go there. In terms of smoothness its definitely not a smooth ride in its current state especially with the age and just how most SLC's tend to be rough but its far from the worst I've ridden and definitely turns up the intensity of the ride. My only issue with the ride is the brake run after the last inversion, It's far too sharp and you have to brace by pushing yourself back into the chair ( that's if you know how hard it brakes from riding previously ) I feel they could of change the route of the coaster and maybe added 1/2 more elements to make it more thrilling (not like it isnt already) but mainly to scrub a little more of its speed off to allow the brake run to not be as harsh. Summing this coaster up its brilliant, the only custom SLC In the world and IMO It's not a ride for everbody due to it's stomach churning intensity but definitely worth the ride if you're there!

It probably is the best SLC. But, take Kumali at Flamingo Land also here in UK. Smoothest SLC ever. But not as exciting as Odyssey. People say Odyssey isn't rough, and by SLC standards it isn't, but it does "bounce you in your seat' a faaaair bit, which will contribute to headaches. Kumali crossed with Odyssey.. that would be the best SLC ever made.

It’s a pretty good coaster. The drop is a lot bigger on ride and the ride pulls some good forces. Also the layout is a good mix of elements and very unique for a SLC. The only downsides are the restraints being a bit bulky causing head banging just like most SLC’s and the pacing is a bit off in places. If they get some new trains on this with the vest restraints then the ride would be much more enjoyable I think.

Probably the only SLC with an original layout. Most of the SLCs around the world are the same boring uninspired layout (Roll-over after first drop, sidewinder, double-horizontal twist before the brake run). Some of them have a helix added in but that’s just about it. Other than that, it’s the same boring layout.
There are some in China with a different type of cloned layout though, and that seems to not get enough attention. The ones in China mostly consist of a vertical loop, followed by a cobra roll and then a zero-g roll before returning to the station.

It’s not the best or the worst SLC. The drop off excellent and the loop is also great but apart from those two parts it’s very mediocre. It does look very imposing though and is great on the Skegness skyline.

Having thus about 20 mins from my house I personally find it not as appreciated as it should and for an slc it's not that rough and it's very fun

Vekoma 2 seater SLC more expensive than a 4 seater B&M wingrider? That’s a piss take.
    It’s bad for 2 reasons:
    1. It’s an SLC model that are all notoriously uncomfortable to ride and have earned the name ‘hang & bang’
    2. It’s made by Vekoma!
I mean it’s not bad and Kumali is ok too but the traumatise aka infusion at Blackpool is awful but it’s the only one we got that demonstrates the Heartline loop a unique feature on vekoma SLCs but it’s a standard affair and layout otherwise.

Legendary Twin Dragon in China is more than 30 feet taller than Alpengeist. Maybe a top 10 tallest inverted roller coasters would be an interesting topic 🤔

It's definitely the best in the UK... However, despite it being a standard layout, I do prefer Mayan at Energylandia. Due to it being newer, thus smoother, and having the new style vekoma trains and restraints, improving comfort further... I think Mayan is the only one I would want to ride more than once per visit (If I wasn't so busy riding Zadra, Hyperion, Abyssus, Formula and Speed!!!)
But Odyssey definitely has the best layout for me, and is the second best overall.
While we're on the subject, none of the UK SLCs are that bad... Compared to most of the ones I've ridden overseas!!! MP Express!!!! Condor!!! 2 of the worst coasters, of any sort, in the world!!!
