I like the idea behind the Ultimate Universe. My problem is they essentially created a world where NOBODY is likeable. Every character is an asshat and I never cared what happened to any of them.

I love the ultimate run because it feels very grounded and definitive. It was a lot of fun to read and dive into. So many intriguing characters like Hawkeye, Sam Wilson being introduced in Ultimate Nightmare. I really enjoyed it.

yes yes yes Ultimate, my first Marvel Comics (In Russia we first get Ultimate comics) and i remember my first ever comics was X-men, with Magneto on the front and jean grey beating up wolverine in first pages, It was awsome.

the ultimate marvel universe is awesome for a multitude of reasons, the first being that you were actually able to explain ALL of the history in a circa 25 minute video. that is literally impossible for the mainstream timeline. ultimate marvel was designed to be simpler and easier for new readers to pick up. this is ANAD marvel's biggest flaw: too many sequel storylines and very few original situations lead to confusion among new readers, the TARGET AUDIENCE. it's not like that with ultimate marvel. you can literally pick up ultimates #1, ultimate x-men #1, or ultimate spider-man #1 and just take off from there! no baggage or hours of wikipedia research necessary! hence, a lot of my reading came from ultimate marvel and I really enjoyed it. DC's Earth One titles are not too different from Ultimate Marvel (except that the characters have yet to crossover) so I recommend continuing those. I recently reread superman earth one vol 1 again and it is worth completing (just like ultimate thor).

i personally found this explanation entirely lame why mostly because as a fan of the x-men and the mutants race as a whole i don't like the idea of the wolverine being the first mutant and this whole concept of having this one guy be the origin of mutants but that's just my opinion

I agree. Then he won't have been born in the 1800s. Him being around so long makes him interesting. The mcu can just say when Thanos did the snap it mixed different universes or changed reality somewhat. So wolverine can still have his original background.

Welcome to the whole reason Ultimate did well aside from Spiderman. Then the bliss of "Hey I wonder what Ultimate Mister Sinister is like" ran out and was replaced with Wolverine fathering Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, Magneto killing everyone, Captain American being the President AND a giant Dbag and a purple energy form Ben Grimm. That being said I still like it just because all the crazy stuff that happened wasn't continuity lol. Reed becoming evil in 616? No thank you. Ultimate Reed being evil? Sure.
pedro cavalcanti I loved the idea of evil Reed. I only wish they would've found a way to make him the Ultimate version of Dr. Doom (although I think they tackled the Reed as Doom idea in a what if comic years ago).
There's a whole story about a terrorist attack by super soldiers designed by all of our post 9/11 enemies. It was SUCH a 2000's story. Right down to George W. Bush getting kidnapped. (I'm not kidding)

I really love this channel. Mainly because I haven't read that many Marvel comics, and so this is a good way of catching up on everything that I've missed, but also because you're just awesome at what you do.
I've always been a fan of books, movies and comics, of different genres, that try to be as grounded and as real as possible. "As possible" are the key words here. And you can try to be as real and grounded as possible with almost any genre. Which is why I'm a fan of the idea of the Ultimate universe, and all the things that I've been seeing so far from the Ultimate universe on your channel.
And I also like the fact that the super soldier serum is basically the one plot device that connects almost everything in the universe, at least from what I understand.
SWEET GOD Please make more of these. I just started reading comics hardcore again since I was 13. I'm 29 now and have been on a year long binge of catching up with 16 years worth of missed storylines and character plots. Ultimate Universe confuses the shit out of me. This video helped out a lot. Make a quick series playlist.

Excellent Content... Initially I was a little pissed, given how the hulk video ended, I wanted to see more Hulk but honestly I thought this was a welcome addition. I never gave much thought to the Ultimate Universe but now I'd really like to see more! =)
My Dad has a bunch of looted Imperial Japanese military items my Grandpa took while in the war. They are way cool. I was in the Marine Corp from 2010-2014 and we were told explicitly never to loot or take trophies from war zones.
Also I find the Ultimate Universe fascinating. I would love more videos on that in the future Rob. I am also glad you are back to making your Looooong videos. You style calls for it. No complaints will be heard from me! Keep em coming homie!

Its about as smart as going "Hey. Why don't we give EVERY nuke the same activation code, and then put them all in the White House! What could POSSIBLY go wrong?"

Great video. I was really hit-and-miss with Ultimate stuff, I LOVED the first two Ultimates stories. But I wasn't into Ultimates 3, then when this arc was running along with Ultimatum, I totally lost interest. The ret-conning was a bit much (so in the early Ultimate X-Men books Magneto doesn't recognize Wolverine as, not only the guy in Ultimates 3 who has sex with his wife, but also as the guy who was imprisoned by his mom?) but it did tie things up a bit I suppose.
I didn't like the notion of mutants being man-made, since that seemed to be the deus ex-machina that brought Magneto down in Ultimatum after being needlessly shoehorned into the plot. Besides, it goes against some of the other Ultimate X-Men stuff, for example the Apocalypse run, where Apocalypse is kinda just created as a result of Sinister needing to murder mutants. So, essentially, Apocalypse is magic, and appears out of nowhere - so how would he be exposed to an aerial genome thing?
Weird, haha. But good video, fun stuff to re-visit.

@comicsexplained i am one of the few people who love everything about the ultimate universe :) i grew up with it and with the ultimate spiderman series, the drawing by mark bugley was so impressive to me back then as a kid that i never could stop reading it even if i wanted to :D can you do more on this universe please? make a collab with comicstorian, im sure you guys will figure out somehow what you both can do with all the massive peace of work that is the ultimate universe xD

When i first started getting into marvel comics, roughly 7-8 years ago, i used the ultimate universe as a jumping off point since it was less backstory to go over and it felt closer to some of the movies coming out. i thought it was great overall until towards the end, but i do wish it was still around. I know they've been hinting at some ultimate marvel leftovers in the main universe recently so there's still potential there.
the richard/mary parker thing created a huge plot hole with ultimate spiderman since they said that they died in a plan crash . best explaination: they barely survived the hulk encounter and later died in the plane crash

Amazing Zero there was this whole arc where Peter met his childhood friend Eddie Brock. THEY'RES even a part where he views an old tape where he's not a baby, older (I'm guessing probably from 10-12) and white his parents.

I love the Ultimate Universe. Ultimate Spider-Man was on of the first sets of comics I ever completely collected. My only problem with it is, is that Marvel didn't always do the best job of properly tying all the different Ultimate series together

the Ultimate Universe was fine for what it was, was a nice take on a slightly more realistic Marvel universe. Plus it did handle certain events (Clone Saga, death of Wolverine, Death of X, Galactus) better than the main Marvel line.

Yeah. But the difference would be in what part of the genome is activated. Audiences can understand that. For inhumans is an inheritance from kree experimentation in the early humans. For mutants it would be the possibility to evolve that some humans posses and that's activated by the super soldier serum and all that nonsense. But, tbh, i would rather have the mutants be from another universe now that the multiverse was supposedly introduced in Dr. Strange and have them crossover every now and then.
Now inhumans have been introduced as essentially mutant in everything by name I think thats how it will stay until a full reboot
Callum Armour The Inhumans origin is essentialy the same as in the comics, and so far they have only appeared in AOS. If they will take the role of the mutants in terms of importance and screen presence (due to the x-men rights belonging to Fox), thats another matter entirely. However, if the x-men rights are to come back to Marvel, they could very well be introduced and very few clueless people would believe they're the same at all.
