A “banshee moan” is a shriek. It’s a wail. It’s hollering out. Much like women are doing now. When we wrote the song, I saw it as a call to action and a commemoration-a call to the women of today and those coming of age, and a commemoration of those who have gone before, exposing hypocrisy and trying to make their way in a world that is often full of situations and circumstances that make their success impossible. But the fact is that women have a tremendous power and maybe we’re seeing a tipping point now. Women are going to have to dig deeper than ever to provide the forgiveness and the healing that we’re capable of, but also reach farther and harder and brace ourselves to weather the blowback that will come from exposing so many bullies and oppressors, as is happening now. I dedicated my album to my mother and my daughter-they have that strength. I think every woman does. -Shannon McNally

My introduction to Shannon McNally was seeing a video of Mac Rebennack, aka Dr. John, with her promoting her tribute album to Bobby Charles. I thought if Mac was working with her, she ought to be checked out. I loved her sound, ordered three albums, then started learning about Bobby Charles and ordered three of his albums. There's always more to learn about music.
