Who would expect Saggs to be so good at recounting details? He's a natural at this.
It's crazy to think about what losing his tooth did for his career. As a little kid, it definitely made the image of The Nasty Boys stand out.
He's so well spoken and calm. I don't know why but I expected the complete opposite. Any way he looks good for his age and looks like he could hop back in the ring. Good luck Mr. Wants and hope to see you at a wrestling convention some time. Great pick James!

What did they put in the water in Minnesota in the 70s and 80s ffs so so many absolute beasts came from there

My favorite thing about the Nastys is that you saw the name, you had a certain expectation. You see them, and they looked the part. They got in the ring, and they performed exactly how you would imagine they would.

It was such a great time to be a wrestling fan back then. I know that I missed out on some of the greatest legends and matches in wrestling before I was born/old enough to discover wrestling but in many ways I very fortunate to be growing up during the era of characters like the Nasty Boyz and then entering my teens during the late nineties when the attitude era made pro wrestling about as big and as popular as it gets.
I know that there has been a complete lack of creativity in wrestling for many years and other aspects that have reduced the product to whatever it is today but I personally believe that the biggest reason wrestling isn't what it once was is due to the so called fans and their approach to viewing the product. The internet and a focus on backstage politics has damaged pro wrestling beyond repair. I miss the days when fans suspended disbelief and watched the product the same way they would watch a batman film or a TV drama. Just accepting things, being entertained without pulling everything apart and focusing on behind the curtain. Oh well.
Sags looks a lot healthier than Knobs does these days.

The Nasty Boys were one of the last classic tag teams to come from the territories. Those guys pretty much were in the ring with every classic 80's team.

Watching 👀 and listening to Jerry doing these interviews over the last couple of days has definitely made me a whole new fan again (I was always a fan this has just amped me up again) I could listen to him all day and night 🌙 as I feel like I'm there with him. Great stuff Jerry, Thanks...

I remember that match vividly and the spot where Sags lost his tooth! The Midnight Rockers had just left, or were in the midst of leaving to NYC, and the Rock and Roll was a perfect replacement. Badd Company were the tag champs

A fortuitous accident. It was somehow meant to be.
The missing tooth only increased The Nasty's look and legitimacy as big, no-nonsense, brawling heels (in the Wrestling world at least).
A memorable part of their/Jerry's image.
Not sure anyone else could have used it to their advantage.

I watched that match on TV in ‘87. I seen the tooth fly out of his mouth real-time. Then they showed it again in slo-mo after the match.
This match is on youtube. That was a hard hit. Saggs took it like it was nothing.
I couldn’t stand the Nasty Boys as a gimmick team but this Saggs dude is cool as fuck in interviews. Now I can watch the matches with a new appreciation.

If you haven't heard the story from William Regal about him and The Nasty Boys toga party in Japan. It's well worth listening.
There's never been a Nasty Boy's match I've watched where I haven't thought, "Sags is a criminally underrated worker". Not sure why I'm still surprised.

Fair play to him if you watch the match it’s a bad one and he’s all over the shop but still continues the match. Unlike today’s guys where the ref throws up the X for a broken finger nail!

I remember seeing this match on TV when I was in college!
I hated this guy as a kid. He seems well spoken and has really funny and detailed stories. I wouldn’t have believed it until I started seeing these clips.
All I have known him and Knobbs for my entire life is The Nasty Boys. I never saw Sags in an interview. It feels so strange to see him as an older guy, not yelling, and wearing glasses lol.

He was seated on an incline bench press with 335 pounds loaded on the bar, the camera caught him acting like he was about to move the load, but since it was 335 pounds more than he could do, the camera focused away from it. He bumped out the tooth strugging to stand, with his weak, weak, frail old man's legs.
Love sags he was always entertaining.

a couple a three things:
1) Sags seems like cool dude with a good memory. He was also rumored to be one the guys not to mess with outside the ring and I believe it.
2) the missing tooth was like a gift from heaven..... lol! it made this TT instantly recognizable and the legitimacy of toughness .... no doubt about it.
3) he looks so lean & healthy and almost non recognizable as "Sags"
