John, you passed by this house... Chiune Sugihara (杉原 千畝, Sugihara Chiune, 1 January 1900 - 31 July 1986) was a Japanese diplomat who served as vice-consul for the Japanese Empire in Kaunas, Lithuania. During the Second World War, Sugihara helped about 6,000 Jews flee Europe by issuing transit visas to them so that they could travel through Japanese territory, risking his job and the lives of his family. Chiune Sugihara was born on 1 January 1900 (Meiji 33), in Mino. Wikipedia
Wow!! Great find and really appreciate the insight - what a story and person!!
Wow!! That’s amazing! He deserves an even bigger memorial!
@Little Fox There is. Persona non grata, Polish, Japanese, American co-production from 2015. Havent watched it yet though.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! This is awesome
Just catching up again from nz. Super envious
Thank you for your hard beautiful work ❤💜
Even if it is a quiet town dealing with life of today it is still well maintained. I admire the pride the citizens of japan seem to possess. Thank you John and Kanae I appreciate you both 🙏🏻
Such a lovely place, so glad you introduced it to us! It is so nice to get away from the usual tourist spots ❤️❤️❤️
Love countryside episodes. It’s so peaceful there. I like to search on Google earth to see exactly where you are at. It makes it even more interesting and make it seem not so far away. Thanks for showing us around.
That was really quite ,what I like most is the building and they are not so high which is good people can see the mountains 😊😊😊💞💞💞💞💞💞👋👋👋👋👋👋💟💟💟💟💟👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯💯
Wasn’t able to watch live but glad you showed us the hotel. What a gorgeous place. Can’t wait for the borders to open up again. I need to go back
Looks like a nice little town to live.
Ive been here in 2005, very good municipality, and prefecture. Quiet yet progressive. I miss Ogaki, Gifu.
Excellent choice to share with us followers. Do revist in late afternoon. Would be interesting to see a little more activity and lifestyles.
So quiet and lively city
This was a nice livestream. Loved the quaint lifestyle and simplicity of the area. I could see myself spending a couple of days there just enjoying to quietness. Thank you for sharing this. I thought it was cute that Kanae called me Michelle yesterday when you two were driving in the car. Does the area have anything more modern like a convenience store nearby?
My daughter had a year on exchange in mino. We have been back twice to visit her Japanese families. It would be great in you could do a video on the cherry blossom parade through the streets with the floats. So worth seeing
Like you I love these villages great to get out of city jungle and breath thank you for showing this.
That town and region is so authentic Japanese, superb, greetings.
Just saw this. Nice quiet area. Nice room. Thank you
Such a beautiful village thank you for making the video :)
I’ve watched many of your live streams showing such similar town/architecture... I don’t get bored because of your voice and soothing narration style. 👍🏻
It’s tough NOT to talk too much too 😂 finding a good balance is the goal. I don’t want it to be just gliding down a street with no narration. Too many people already do that.
ONLY in JAPAN * GO I used to work with an American colleague who look quite like you and sound quite like you AND laugh EXACTLY like you. How is this possible?!! You reminded me of him so much
ONLY in JAPAN * GO So true. That’s why I watch yours and not theirs.
It is such a quiet , tranquil area! Will include it on my next trip to Japan! Thanks for the virtual tour!
@8:25 beautiful building so much original charm!!!!! 👌🏻
Nice place to stay style too!!!👍
Haha thanks for letting us have a peep into the shop at 09:00
Thank you. More lesser known towns please!
Love strolling around Japanese residential neighbourhoods on a cool day seeing how locals live their life
Gifu area is beautiful! Thanks for letting me reminisce my family's visit a few years back. Sad to see so few people (few even for a quiet quaint town). Can't wait to come back and visit to enjoy the onsen and Hida beef! :)
Amazing city and the hotel is nice too
Always amazing to see these smaller towns in the countryside. That ryokan looks proper too.
This was another amazing video. I am very grateful for the work that you do during the pandemic to bring your viewers a glimpse of Japan in your videos. Not having had the chance to visit yet, and waiting to see when we're able to travel abroad again from the USA, I live vicariously through your videos and there other CZcamsrs from Japan.
Arigatou Gozaimasu.
This place looks so peaceful and lovely to me. I wish, I could stay there for some days.
Beautiful hotel, I would love to have a house designed like that hotel. It looks so comfortable.
I love that guitar repair shop named "the Woody Blues" that's clever!
Love the texture of the wood...and the art on the wood. Great washi-paper🤗💖
Wow, this is a very beautiful town! I love everything here. I love the wooden brown doors. That feels very Japanese to me. The groups of kids going to school reminded me of my childhood. I grew up in Chubu Region so this town feels home. Thank you very much for showing it!
What a great little place, reminds me of Wakayama, this looks well worth a visit! Thanks for featuring it definitely will go there on my next Japan itinerary👍
What a stunning town so peaceful in the morning, thanks John! Safe travels... Hi Kanae 👋
That Temple is so Awesome John :))
Beautiful hotel with characters. We had been to Takayama before, and that's wonderful!
I find the kawara (Japanese roof tiles) so beautiful. I would love to take black and white photos to catch the play of light and shadow on the tiles and udatsu. Bai Son looked lovely, a combination of ryokan and museum.
Thanks for this gem.... Love it when you show us stuff outside of Tokyo
Never tire of Edo period architecture. The look of all that timber gives the buildings so much character. Feels like you're stepping back in time.
But yes, would agree that the asphalt roads do take away some part of that period feel. Still, a beautiful place just the same.
A relaxing walkabout to start the day. Thanks John.
Love seeing these places :) Would love to spend a night there for sure.
Fantastic video
I'd love to live here!
thanks for this opportunity pretty cool view appreciate you sharing this interesting journey
Really surprising to see this. My customer"s headquarters are in Gifu City... Wow. Such a quaint area so close. On my bucket list to visit when I go to Gifu next time. A great discovery!
That's a crazy concept how the walls of the beautiful structures witnessed SAMURAI walk through the streets.
John can you do a tour of Takayama (San Machi) in the future? Love that place, was there a year before COVID arrived.
Many place to explore in Gifu
amazing place great job sir!!
15:56 - “spider!” RUN John, RUNNNN!!
🏃🏻💨 🕷
Old place but really nice...
Thank you, John!
The place and the hotel are absolutely stunning. * _ *
As you were walking up stairs to the room i saw a table and chair and thought to myself...um...that's scandinavian....then in your room you have a Eames chair! Checked out Bai Son's website and they talk about the mash up of Eur and Japanese styles :) .. Only 5 rooms, when I get to Japan I might need to sleep in the alley haha. Thanks for the wonderful small town tour. I've added it to my Google Map 'Want to Go' list.
Woah!! I think the mix of styles is quite interesting.
Wow nice and quiet
The hotel is fabulous. There is so much charm. I’ll stay in this hotel anytime rather than a “hotel”. Too bad you just stayed for one night.
Nice Eames chair w/ ottoman. Fantastic room!
If you watch the video, then you should like it because it helps creators get income etc. It only takes one second and it's pretty ungrateful not to.
This is so interesting!
wow John was too late to get live stream in time . was in online meetings. John love the old buildigs. mmm coffee there over looking the garden is amazing
I’ll be back - love exploring old local towns. Will find some more.
That place looks like Shirakawa Go or Hinamizawa in the Anime Higurashi: When they cry.
John, would you ever do an evening or midnight stroll around Minoshi?
That’s hard because the town is asleep and I shouldn’t be making any noises. It’s harder for really local areas like this and it’s really really DARK! 😂
Wow looks nice but bit spooky 😂
Ahhh missed yet another livestream
What a Marvelous Therapeutical Mornin' 😍
Hi, John! I live thses mornings walks when no one is awake yet! 😍🤗 I do this whereever I go. Is there any place open for coffee so early on the morning?
Was that a Eames lounge chair with Ottoman in your ryokan room? $7k to $8k possibly unless it was a copy.
I expected to see Gojira stomping through the town, at the first minutes of the video.🦎
I hope we’d feel him coming so we can seek shelter underground!
The kids are cute. They were half asleep.
Is this an area where Akiya are present?
This place is so quaint. Would like to see the place buzzling with people than being so quiet. Been to Gifu via Nagoya but only to Takayama and Shiragawako. How did I missed this place altogether?
What type of camera are you using?
Live streams use an iPhone 11 Pro with a DJI Osmo Mobile 4 gimbal.
@@NoshAbroad thank you!!!
I notice that the buildings has same level with the street, is there weren't any accident by cars?
Very nice, but at the same time it looks somehow scary even in a daytime ;D
Without people at 7am, it is a little too quiet here with those old wooden buildings. The shingles have eyes on you 👀
D
Safety is not a problem in Japan. It’s pretty safe
@@chefmitch4731 Oh I'm aware of Japan's safety, no doubt about that. I mean more like a horror / zombie movie scary - empty streets etc... ;D
@@onlyinjapanGO Wooo! They Are Watching You! (and we shouldn't forget those Halloween pumpkins) ;D
😲
Is it Takayama?
👍👍
How come your camera is not thats shaky. Tripod?
It’s called a gimbal with a steady hand.
Camera has Image stabilizer
Gimbal and I walk with it like I’m dancing with a princess 👸
ONLY in JAPAN * GO I noticed you have had so many ex-princesses 😂
Does Japan exist sunlight in the morning?
Land of the rising sun ☀️ so 100% YES 👍
are these houses mostly empty?
It’s 7am, I believe they’re closed for business. Many owners live upstairs 😴
Just another missed stream like the previous one 🤔 !!! Timing couldn’t be more wrong for me ,way too early ....!!! Nice looking place although 👍
Trying to hit different time zones.
Where are the people?
How do they control pigeon population ?
I wonder what their secret is ... 🤔 🐦
LOVE TO SEE YOUR FACE IN THE MORNING
Nice to see alone for a change, no tryin to get you and wifey I the shot, sorry.
Great video, but why do you promote driving a car? There are 2 train stations there but still, you promote to have a car driving through the town? the distances in walking aren't much at all. Americans love to drive everywhere. But the world needs to walk more, to take trains more. they are environment friendly. not the cars.
