  • Eyvette Jones-Johnson's single aim is to help us recognize the untapped potential of America's homeless and working poor and engage it. She is the founder and executive director of Urban Possibilities (UP), a non-profit that inspires at-risk adults to use their gifts as a catalyst for change --and creates public performances for communities to experience the results.
Based in Los Angeles, America's homeless capital, Urban Possibilities' clients live in Skid Row missions, shelters and low-income housing weathering life's toughest conditions yet not giving up. Jones-Johnson believes their resilience, ingenuity and courage against the odds are powerful reservoirs that can ultimately transform underserved communities. Using success theory, creativity and the power of story as the medium, clients rediscover their worth and learn that even in poverty they have access to unlimited possibilities.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Thanks Eyvette for showing us the difference one person can make in the lives of persons less fortunate. Your passion and dedication to the homeless and working poor is a program that should be duplicated around the country. Though I have heard of and seen programs for the unfortunate , I have never witnessed a program as creative as the one you have developed.
My prayer is that cities around the country will offer resources and space to duplicate Urban Possibilities.
