- This is an account of John Lennon's Aunt Mimi vs George "The Teddy Boy" as told by George Harrison of The Beatles from the documentary George Harrison - Living In The Material World

I love when he says:" I must have looked pretty good" I just love George 🙏
Because what he actually means is: "I must have looked pretty stupid."
Everybody wanted to look like Elvis back in those days, especially The Beatles.
Don’t mind us Mimi we’re just revolutionising popular music over here.
To be fair if it wasn’t for Mimi John prob would’ve just become a delinquent- but she and Julia certainly gave him plenty of mummy issues
*revolutionizing music
@@Micolash_is_behind_you no. That’s American English.
"Shut Up, Mary, Shut Up!"
Should have been the title of a Beatles song.
and of a Long Play also
"When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me. Shut Up Mary, Shut Up! Let It Be!"
@@markt2779 Hey, that's great!
A lot of people would have liked to meet the Beatles after they were famous. I think I'd have liked to know them *before* they were famous.
Or *while* they were famous
geo's accent is the reason I wake up in the morning
Well that's just odd
It's the reason why I'm alive🥺🥺
It's the reason why I breathe!😉
Yes alright, but “geo” ?
Its george not geo what are you 5 years old?
My man George looked so awesome in the Liverpool days
Its crazy how much Dhani looks like George.
He also favors his mother, who could pass for George's sister
George sipping that bottle predates Jimmy Page’s famous Jack Daniels pic by about 20yrs. Funny thing is his mother looks at him so proudly while most parents would smack their kid with a newspaper if they ever caught them doing that, she was cool.
Yes, she looks at him like it's just the cutest, most adorable thing. And yes, she was definitely cool. She used to let the band (the Quarrymen) practice at the Harrison home, something Mimi never would have allowed.
She is drinking herself 😂
funny to think that George was the objectionable one of the bunch, since he seems luck such a low key person
George had a gaf attitude similar to John's.
Love you George
John was funny that way and he did stick for George so good on John for doing so.
This clip must have been filmed at the same time they did the interviews for the Anthology, because George is wearing the exact same clothes and sitting in the exact same studio that he was for much of the Anthology interview clips.
It’s from the Anthology Director’s Cut
This was filmed in the late 1980s. Around 1987 I think. Not in the Anthology period.
@@xpat73 It was filmed at the same time just never used. Same studio George was sitting in wearing the exact same shirt and hairstyle.
there was a much bigger generation gap back in those days
0:42 - If Gorgie's hands were as dirty as in this picture, I can understand Mimi ;)
Damn, George was a great storyteller.
At least Aunt Mimi took care of John and bought him a guitar i think that's more than enough care. She didn't have any kids of her own, so understand her perspective.
Johns mum bought him his first guitar not Mimi
@@lithograph-yx2dsThat's right
Mimi bought the First Electric
and remembered the price but got the two events mixed up.
Her nurse said that with her
very last breath Mimi said "Hello, John!" with a smile.
She was kind of a harsh woman, but John could be harsh too. And she loved him like a son, and he loved her.
@@cisium1184 many said that mimi was stern and not an easy person to win over but everyone respected her. when john was on tour, he would write letters to mimi about what he's experienced and mimi would get those letters personally by the band's fanclub president/brian epstein's assistant freida kelly who should be considered to be a fifth beatle. next to epstein, she was their greatest protector.
She did tell John he’d never make a living out of playing the guitar.
It reminds me of how some of my friends' mothers treated me as a "bad influence" on their son or daughter when I was 16-18. Like George I had a rebellious appearance and a crazy sense of humour but was actually very shy and proper.
Well, old mothers, if you are reading this in the nursing home or cemetery, now I am a university-educated, self-employed senior professional and volunteer firefighter in my fifties with a wife and children of my own. So, put that in your sandwich toaster and smoke it!
Hope they see this
They don't always turn out like you unfortunately
My parents didn't approve of ANYTHING after roughly 1965. Everything was compared to their growing -up years, so was based on the deprivations of WW11.
I think they were jealous. I can't understand why they didn't celebrate that their children had better times to live in!
It turned me into a rebel where clothes and music were concerned and I've followed my heart with these all my life I'm pleased to say. Like you, I've led a successful professional and family life and consider myself very fortunate.
He looks like Mick Jones from the Clash c. 1977 in the picture...!
Hair combed like Elvis, collar turned up, cigarette in hand.
All the signs of a hard-core juvenile delinquent of that era.
don't forget the classic 'drain-pipe' trousers
@@karaamundson3964 You have a famous last name.
John George e Aunt Mimi gênios 👏👏👏🇧🇷
I wonder what she thought of paul . He seemed like in photos & his demeanor is calm & peace & love I bet mimi probably thought paul looked like a nice young man. He had that preppy look too.
She didn't like him either, but she disliked George more as a matter of fact she hated all John's friends, she thought they were all a bad influence on him and he was a perfect angel
@@romans52345-cy3tq It's usually the kid who is the ringleader who has a mother who believes that her son is the innocent one being led astray.
@@basilmarasco1975 You're right, I wonder why that is
@@romans52345-cy3tq Why? Well, for example, just look at the picture of George taking a swig ... with *his* mother looking at him and smiling like it's just the cutest thing.
@Cosmic Goat So, Mimi was probably ticked by the fact that George, being more than two years younger than John, had gotten to be as bad as John that much sooner.
Shutup Mary! LOL
It's not hard to believe that John would get obstreperous and tell Mary to shut up. Still, I think, he loved her.
That was brazen for that era. Nice he defended his pal.
I'm from the U.S. I got the impression from the early 1960s British science fiction movies "The Day the Earth Caught on Fire" and "Children of the Damned"(originally released in the U.K. as "The Damned") that the Teddy Boys had a reputation for juvenile delinquency.
Yes they did
"Look at him!"
bringing that boy around to this house ...
Dreadful!
John Lennon era do subúrbio , da classe média, uma ícone dos revoltados e nós amamos eles por isso
Speak English amigo.
@@Revolver1981 no
@@Revolver1981 Use Google Translate.
John Lennon was from the suburbs, from the middle class, and an icon of two revolts and we love them for it.
Typical teenagers and the soap operas that go on between teens and parents, or relatives in this case.
George, the bad boy.
What's the song playing over George's youthful portrait at the end? It sounds perhaps like the very early Beatles, maybe the Quarrymen.
I'd like to know myself.
That’s funny‼️🤪
if you view this without taking sides you see mimi's personality as very much like john forthright blunt even nasty also how she talked to john even when he was famous, keeping him grounded also georges personality is very much like mimi is some ways, its a liverpool character trait, there is love but its not always the lovey dovey type its tough and there is an understanding. I dont think the beatles would have been the way they were if it wasnt for this aspect to their characters.
Mimi you snob! Lots of people - including me - adore your nephew's friends (especially George). xxxx
In 1964, when they were successfull Mimi seemed to like George
Don't know what George looked like but Mimi likely saw through George's childish insecurities and immaturity.
Probably wondered why John was with him.
That's what elders do.
Well, George *was* a child at the time, so.....
george, new friend of john's, george visiting john's home, teddy boys was the style, george looking pretty good, aunt Mimi shocked, look at him! shut up mary shut up!
Little Did Aunt Mimi know that in a few years time she would kiss George on the lips 😂🤣
Huh??
@@Piperthedoxie there's a video on CZcams that shows Aunt Mimi joining The Beatles on a tour; and when she arrived at the airport, she was greeted by John, George and Paul. At one point she gave George a kiss, much to George's surprise 😂🤣
@@marjanp4784Oh! Thank you for explaining lol
😚
What's the song at the end?
I'd love to know.
@@kiwitrainguyWell, where did you find it/get it from? It definitely sounds like John singing.
It's in this film, that's the only place I've heard it.@@57highland
@@kiwitrainguy Oh OK, sorry. I thought you put this video together piecemeal. Same thing with other Beatles docs, where there is a snippet of interesting music accompanying the narration but it isn't identified in the credits. One of those docs is an older one, "The Compleat Beatles", narrated by Malcolm McDowell, if I remember correctly.
OK, no problem.@@57highland
Murray?
So was mimis real name Mary?
Mary Elizabeth
@@jezzaus2124 I never knew that thank you

yes, nickname Mimi, John giving a little sting as he did
George. Toughass from the bottom to the toppermost.
George was the most unpretentious of all the Beatles
That would be Ringo
@@johnp515 no, as I said, it was George… he was unpretentious his whole life and Ringo only seemed that way until he had a few hits as a solo when he became to most pretentious of all…!
But as a lad he did love his drainpipes and DA...got a whack on the knuckles for them at the Institute for being a teddy. George went home for tea, his dad inquired about the weal on his hand, and George said, "From Teacher." The next day his father went to the school, knocked on the classroom door, & inquired if the prof inside had whacked his son. The teach said, "I did," and George's father rared back and socked the guy in the chin. Paul, attending the same school at the time, reports, "George's dad was the hero of the whole place...I told my father about it and he said if it were me, I'd probably have deserved it & he'd've done nothing!"
