Purely outside of bug/tuning testing with PTR, I think you'd still see guilds trying to replicate race/speed clear tests on private servers. It's not nearly as 1:1 as PTR testing is, but PTR access may just make for a more level playing field without essentially mandating private testing for guilds who want to try.

Zanza is a 2 hour buff, he did not refresh it to 60 minutes. it merely clicked down to 60 minutes left. And the crazyness of how sync'd up and how much they have practiced, seeing the warlocks at 31:50, 7 infernals basically walk on top of each other to the boss.

What is the reason for using a bm hunter on yogg? I tried to find info on why and how to do it but can’t find any

2 reasons: 1) kite away immortal guardians in phase 3 (this is why the hunter). 2) bring the buff you lost by dropping the mage (3% damage i think but don't quote me) (this is why BM in particular).

I do wonder if the World First Classic (there, qualified it for all the "actually" commenters) race would have been if it required defeating all bosses and hard modes. Maybe still one night, but it would have taken longer and been more difficult.
Also the fact it was released at 11pm in Europe must have been a factor, but that's not something that can be really addressed since time zones exist for a reason.
XT Hardmode was deemed impossible with pre Ulduar gear so it would have to be 2 resets then

They had an issue on just how retarded the snapshot Gary was.- not what they wanted for the class apparantly and its future scaling potential (think just how high haste could get later on)
@@doncorleone1720 they stacked 9 locks only for yogg0 because it's the only class that can do a lot of damage while having their back facing yogg to prevent losing sanity.
Blizzard:" we need to nerf unholy DK as stacking 9 dks in a raid is jot healthy for the game." Proceeds to balance no other classes resulting in the next runner up class being 9 stacked in raid.
I think there's a pretty good chance they would have stacked Locks anyways even without the nerf. Also I don't think they nerfed it because they're afraid of world first class stacking, and more because its scaling was absolutely insane due to a mechanic that didn't exist in original WOTLK
Warlocks were already going to be stacked the hardest in this raid. It was exactly like this back in original ulduar. World first yogg zero was a Chinese guild with like 12 warlocks
This mid-classic expansion nerf was the dumbest shit I've ever seen. Unholy wasn't even the most broken class in 3.3.5, Warlock was. Unholy's going to fall so hard behind as Frost gets more and more Armor Pen in Ulduar, ToC and ICC. Even with busted Gargoyle Unholy will be behind Rogue, Warlock and Warrior in ICC. This change made fuckall sense.

Yes, the race would be better without PTR imo. This honestly just feels like a race for who's going to log the first speed run as actual progression happened on the PTR. I was a lot more interested in PTR progression than this.

Guilds will literally setup their own private private-servers or hire some dad to do it for them. This is already being done. Unironically we come full circle and realise private servers with their 'memebuffs' not only made the fight hard enough (tightly tuned to very good gameplay) but also made it impossible to fully practice beforehand (because it would be new 'content' in the race).

ptr wasnt even out for several months, ppl act like ulduar was going to be hard, more than half the guilds in this race were all collective group of pserver players from the early 20 teens doing this stuff every new server or fresh start lmfao noone actually expected it to last long unless you were in your own little fairy tale world

Don't think it will ever be possible for my guild to meet the dps check on Hodir, that is insane that even with such an optimized group from the best players in the world, they barely made it. The gear difference is not enough to account for how optimized they are for the vast majority of guilds.
You really underestimate the power of gear. Some classes scale ridiculously. You will probably be able to do it in a month or so.
@NextLevelHardstylez according to sims, people can expect to go from about 7.7k in bis p1 to about 10k bis p2. For non-hardcore sweaty class stacking guilds, that 2.3k difference is already outclassed by a country mile
The way you play the fight is you play with the buffs from the NPC's encased in the ice.
You free them asap so they cast their 'buffs' quickly.
First you look for the fire and stack that shit up ASAP, if you stand near it and hit boss it applies a stacking debuff that increase %dmg done. Melees have fast AS so tank + melees move to a fire. Caster will do majority of the DMG so melees focus on freeing NPCs after they turn into an iceblock again.
I just typed a fucking book but my point being a big part of the high DPS is doing the fight well and getting the buffs fast. So learning the 'dance' of the fight as a guild can pay off hugely.
It was known to be really tight in week 1 but it gear helps a ton
@MrHvleeuwen Don't get me wrong, I fully understand how the fight is meant to work, but bearing in mind even the best guilds in the world with 100+ hours on PTR, some still failed, doing all the mechanics excellently, while class stacking and while doing their rotations perfectly. The gear gap is not as large as that difference. And that's assuming you get your full BIS on everyone, which won't happen for a long time. Just to meet a boss that's just a dps check? Not very well planned.
Fine for a competitive mode, like if they adjusted to 2.5min after 2 weeks, would be fine, something attainable to work towards. But as it is? Not even worth trying to prog on
@@Thegiggleofsteel Yea we always considered hodir 2min as a 'possible highlight for something that could be super tight even in week 1 depending on tuning' when thinking about WOTLK classic.
Also if you dont race, it can be super fun to progress on for the better guilds (because then you can actually just wipe and go again). Like maybe week 1 you just save it for the end and do some tries and see where you end up %HP wise and then just kill it normal mode. And then you try again later weeks.
The nerfed version is 3minutes long and that just completely trivialized the fight, you can kill that with pugs wtihout any strategy.
I just want to let you know there is hope :P The fight is super short so all the small Improvements you make are not that small relatively. Like freeing the NPC's a bit faster so the buffs come a bit quicker, getting a bit more melee uptime on the fire so you get to 30stacks +60% spelldmg taken quicker, doing slightly more personal DPS. It adds up a lot for 25 players.
Also dodge mechanics so you can drop a healer, that kinda shit. And it all scales super well with gear.

the only thing I play Wrath classic for is killing Arthas, because it is the only thing I never got to do back in 2009. that's why I'm taking a break from the game at the moment to play SWTOR. I haven't even levelled my character to 80 yet, because I know catch-up gear is a thing, I don't need to rush at all
Also retail is better than it has been since MoP, possibly the best expansion ever.

@@johannesmeier309 I'm not sure if you casted a hex on me or what but you can practice and do different strats each new server and fresh start and improving as a player overall and then come together with other like minded ppl and become even better and then proceed to get everything down within 2 weeks of a PTR testing period for everyone to be on the right track. But yes if u mean by 2 years ago or so when Beef Bar was formed then yes they're a fairly new guild afaik but have players who've played on private for quite awhile doing stuff on there

Sadly impossible. Without PTR the raid would be bugged out to hell, and you can't filter out all the prior private server players.

They are for sure not pserver players alone.
And I bet they all broke the rules and did things like BUY their way up with bought gold rather than level the normal way and get their gear the normal way. When you can buy your way to BIS etc. it's hardly unexpected that you can just rush push everything.

World first races are a sham as long as third party addons with tangible gameplay ebenfits are allowed, such as enemy skill predictions or text on screen or audio cues that tell the player what to do, as those groups loaded with addons have a huge, even unfair, advantage over those who play the game as intended (no addons).

Good job they had time to waste on a ptr for weeks .
I realize that's kind of sour, but you can still have a world first race without spending so much time on temporary templates creating this idealistic image of the perfect Strat - an image which 'enough' players spend an entire phase striving for, enough to create multiple dichotomies. It's really unnecessary, the game would 100% more enjoyable if everyone got into the content at the same time, and all had to work it out together . Thats not even just 'my idea of fun', it would factually make it better. It's absolutely unnecessary to have ridiculous testing (Strat building ) regimes - it's actually deleterious. World first races and speed runs ? Not my gripe here.
How does it impact your life? Play like you want and leave other people enjoying the game like they want. You're salty because you don't have the skill or the time to be in a top guild? That's on you mate.

Being in the top guild literally has nothing to do with spending weeks on templates practicing strats - or are you implying that the only thing that makes them the best is that time spent playing and mastering the content - before it's released?
World buffs in classic are a prime example of this, when nearly every single guild had at the minimal, a low key requirement for Raiders to have world buffs that were frankly unnecessary and pigeon holing (play how you want right ?) Stemmed from speed runs and the world first ... Now sure "don't want to put in the work the guild requires, find a new one" is a great answer, when they all strive for the same ludicrous image set by the 1% using testing technology for Strat honing.
Historically those are the same players who start crying for the new content because their guild crushed the raids to fast on live . Which is a downhill slope I shouldn't even need to get into, but I will, rushed content to pander to the 1% . That's how we ended up with a shit expansion with a mythic raid encounter that only the TOP guild's cleared .
World of warcraft has factually gotten worse since they began giving mass access to their betas . The beta's for BC and wrath were relatively elusive, same with the ptrs . It was there, but not at this level - I suppose social medias and streaming have a part to play but .

Any current classic wow world firsts does not count since it was done before when there were no content guides made.
Back then ptr also existed, to guilds has plenty guides. You most likely didn’t know them.
You also had simulation tools such as landsouls warrior sheet.
