  • Podroll is a simple way to recommend podcasts you love to your listeners.
It's reminiscent of blogrolls from the early 00's where bloggers would recommend their favorite blogs, websites, and discussion groups. These recommendations are powerful because they're curated by the podcast creator, not an algorithm.
This video is a live design review between Cameron (VP of Design), Kevin (Cofounder and Head of Product), Dave (Designer), and Bryan (Developer). Dave and Bryan have been adding Podroll to Buzzsprout and are walking Cameron and Kevin through their design.
This feature is now live in Buzzsprout.

This is our first attempt at a "Behind the Scenes" video, should we keep publishing these or change up the format?

Yes, good format. Great to understand your thinking of product features

+1 for Podroll as an ownable feature for podcasters to tout rather than something super generic sounding

Also, there is no way to look at the podcast when trying to add another podcast to know if it's any good or not? Why would I want to recommend a podcast that I have no visibility on?
What is the benefit for me, as a Podcast owner, recommending anyone?
PS - I love your transparency though. Great to brainstorm with your customers. Bravo

Haha, don't recommend random podcasts! :) Just search for ones you already love!
Just recommend the podcasts that you truly love. It's a way to support creators you like and to help your listeners find other shows that are great.

There should be an option to help match podcasts. Like a feature that lets you click on a podcast that you'd be happy to promote and they can click Yes or No to want to reciprocate.
    Is this possible?
Or do I get a notification if someone adds and removes my podcast?

Those are both good ideas! We're running a Podroll swap over in our Facebook Group right now: facebook.com/groups/BuzzsproutCommunity/posts/7298474616838956/

Hey Buzzsprout, Im hoping you can help me… I’ve been watching a bunch of your videos about what type of microphone to buy next. I currently make PC gaming videos and tutorials with voice overs using a condenser mic in a relatively quiet area, but I tend to get a bunch of keystrokes and mouse clicks while recording. I am hoping to get your opinion about what mic would be better for me? A condenser or dynamic, as my current one has finally broke and I’m back into the market.

Hi there, Zypic! Since you're primarily recording voice-overs and tutorials in a quiet place, a dynamic microphone would be a great option for you. Dynamic mics handle loud noises well and resist feedback, making them ideal for less-than-ideal environments. They're less sensitive than condenser mics and won't pick up as much background noise.
Try checking out some of our reviews on dynamic microphones to find one that suits your needs: www.buzzsprout.com/blog/best-podcast-microphones
I hope that helps! All the best!

Which video recording software do you use? Riverside, streamyard, squadcast? Neither?

We used Riverside to record this video. We also use it to record all of our podcasts.

I like Recommended Podcast because if people trust your information as a Podcaster the idea that you are "recommending" a podcast carries weight in the 'Plain English" category.
Using Pod Roll is not self-explanatory to the general public who will use this feature. Also Pod Roll sounds less credible than recommended. Recommended feels like the podcaster is taking personal responsibility for listing the podcast on their site.
