  • PVC hangman prop. 2-3 hour fabrication time so far. Utilized mostly 1/2" pipe, 3/4" used at pelvis joint and chest uprights for stability.
    Click on the link and it will take you to my photo album. If you expand the yellow image it is a diagram of the sizes of PVC pipe I used and the lengths you will have to cut them into.....

    Powered by Monsterguts wiper motor and power supply with quick connect terminated wires. Next step is to glue joints, add stuffing and clothing and build wooden structure for hanging. Sound track made with FL Studio, video editing done with Cyberlink.

    Very cool prop. I love how you made the knees! Thank you for sharing.

    Loved the props and the ideas. Thanks for sharing and inspiring me to be as creative in my prop building as well. "Scare 'em all!"

    That's one of the better designs I've seen in a while (ie. Kicking dead man props). Nice video too.

    Never thought about it. But it sounds interesting. Last year I had a total of 3 motorized props. This year I have plans to build a total of 11. When I revisit this particular prop I will see if I can modify it to kick each leg independently. Thank you for the idea!

    I am making a hanging man for Halloween thanks to your video.
    I cant wait to see the reaction of the passers by on the night.
    Halloween is not as big in the UK but it's getting bigger each year.
    Thanks for the video and Happy Halloween.

    You will also need aluminum stock from Lowes or Home Depot for the linkage between motor and PVC pelvis. Hardware to bolt together should be 8-32 machine screws and nylon lock nuts. Also use PVC cement to connect all pieces except the 1/2" horizontal pelvis going through the 3/4" tees that are at the bottom of the vertical torso pieces. (This is the part that has movement) Also you can rig up some hardware wire or use hinges at the knee joints.

    @MMnumber9 The straight metal piece that extends from the motor to the pvc pipe for the action is bolted together using threaded machine screws and nylon lock nuts. I believe they are size 8-32 or 10-32 and about 3/4" in length.

    haha, no problem. my uncle's into dec'ing his house out for the holidays, and i thought it'd be pretty awesome if he decided to make one of these, with legs that kicked at different intervals to make it seem realistic. i just wanted to see if you hand any ideas. if you do find a way to make it kick each leg independently, please post another video of how it's designed. thanks again.

    Very Nice! Construction looks alot more solid than mine. Just a note, glue may not hold up over time! I used two short sheetmetal screws on each side of the connecteors to hold pieces together. The glue just doesn't hold firm enough under the rough conditions of the kicking.

    You should see if you can do something to put a pivot in the hips, with similar measure to prevent hyper-extension there.
    It looks a little awkward with the legs kicking together.

    Parts from Monsterguts: "Power Pack" @ $37.49 (includes wiper motor, power supply and quick connect wires) And check under "Show more" above and following link for the diagram for the PVC pipe lengths and elbows/tees needed.

    @Bmora123 @Bmora123 You can get a new and inexpensive wiper motor from Monsterguts(dot)com. And they also sell the power supplies to power the unit, or you can just find a spare 5 to 12 volt DC wall wart and power it with that to save even more money. In the end I just ended up bolting on a flat straight piece of aluminum stock that I picked up at Lowes, then bolt the aluminum piece onto the PVC pipe that crank the legs. There are some tutorials out there on how to build these step by step.....

    how does the wiper motor work do you just need the motor or do you need the wiper motor controller with it im confused??????? can you help me out.

    I am having a little bit of trouble here, what exactly are you connecting to the wiper motor and then connecting to the pvc pipe T to make the legs move... I cannot find anything like this at lowes or homedepot, so what should I ask for when I go there, I already have everything built and have the wiper motor ready to go... I am just having trouble with the aluminum brackets or what ever they are...

    • @ulcerative
      @ulcerative  Před 8 lety

      It has been so long since this build. I may have used either 8-32 or 10-24 machine screws with nylon lock nuts.

    • @stevenhulbert7655

  • @dngdong1876
    @dngdong1876 Před 9 lety

    hey I have a question...so I built this prop, based on your design and I am having a problem with the strength (assuming) of the motor. Did you try other motors before going with a wiper motor? I tore apart an old fan so that I could use the motor.... tested first of course...but once I mounted it to the body it would not spin at all....unhooked it and it still worked, I'm guessing the motor just wasn't strong enough, do you agree?

    • @ulcerative
      @ulcerative  Před 9 lety

      +dngdong1876 A fan motor would have high speed but very little torque. The windshield wiper motors run slow but have more than enough torque to move most props. Check into the Monsterguts site for cheap motors. Sorry for late reply. Just now getting back into prop building. Going with a Casa Fear Ground Breaker this time.
