      Resolution of the phone has little impact on battery life. The complaint is legitimate. They released a new phone that is very similar to the S8, plopped in a more powerful processor and gave us the same battery. So the new processor is arguably a con because it will reduce battery life. How about designing the phone so that it lasts an entire day like phones used to do?

    Your "Samsung bloatware" argue is not a 100 % true one. I DEFINITELY PREFER Samsung Gallery, Samsung Music, Samsung Internet (more fast, no add, feels more secured...), the Samsung calender and so on... It depends on your own experience. I personally find that their design and interface is way more pleasing.

      The guy doesn't have a real job because the Samsung Email app syncs with corporate mail while Google Pixel doesn't work well with corporate mail. This is why almost all companies that support Android only does Samsung and no Google devices.

    • @CrimsonScyth
      @CrimsonScyth Před 5 lety +1

      Vision33r If they choose Samsung, it's because of security features like Knox and not because of a preinstalled app's email incompatibility.
      Businesses use 3rd party apps for email such as Good/BB work or the 365 Outlook client, and not the built-in email client. This is so policies can manage the device; for example if the user loses the device, the business has as requirement to be able remotely wipe the corporate data.

    My s9+ runs 5 to 5:30 SOT every single day (I am truly a power user, and I am speaking of 16 hour days, atleast). It used to run more than 6 when I got it. Not that samsung did a bad job, just that I have my exynos running 2.9ghz on every core with a custom kernel instead of the limit that the stock has so it can match the snapdragon(welcome to nerf town). My multi thread performance in geekbench is 9.8K and single is 3.8K. That is not close to snapdragon, it's right below the A11 Bionic, which makes it the fastest SOC ever put on an android phone.
    In other news, no one cares about Bixby, which does not mean that samsung apps are worse than stock google. I find samsung apps more useful and more pleasing to the eye than the boring stock ones... and I'm sure anyone that doesn't have to glorify stock android does too.
    About pricing, this packs so much more than a pixel in hardware and software that it is ridiculous to say that this is expensive when the pixel still costs more and delivers much less.
    About updates, what does android P have that the s9 doesn't? I'm really glad that pixel owners got multitasking last year, by the way. Maybe next year they can have floating windows and stuff.
    I wish samsung would pay me to write this stuff, but they don't. It is really messed up to be an original android user and after having so many androids from so many brands seeing people on videos trying to make a phone look like less than it is for Google's glory and freaking vanilla android veneration. It is not only this guy, it is about so many youtubers.
    The problem reviewers have with this phone is that it looks a lot like the last year's phone from the outside. The revolution isn't the notch, the revolution is still the Galaxy S8.
    This said, there is no other phone in the world that is half as good at being amazing at everything as the S9 is except for the iPhone that is equally as amazing for people that like iOS. Stop trying to make S9 buyers look like they are stupid when everybody else is making compromises and not them.

    I find it strange when people like the speaker here, an expert in his field confuses certain elementary things.
    1. Screen resolution. Recommending to people to increase resolution just because they can is silly. 720p plenty for the vast majority of people at that size. If you have particularly good eyesight, or you often like to put your phone unnaturally close to your eyes- 1080p is the resolution for you. This is the default resolution. 1440p is there _only_ for Gear VR and your phone will automatically change to it, when you literally put your phone next to your eyes. Be aware that you still need special lenses to be able to see the screen in focus- because the screen will be unnaturally close to your face and eyes at that point.
    2. Software updates. Google _always_ frells up the updates. Never have they ever released a major update that worked flawlessly- ever- not even by accident- which makes sense considering how complex Andorid OS has become. If you're willing to be a guinea pig for Google and beta test their new OS- by all means- get a pixel phone. If, however- you prefer to get a mature, more stable, and well rounded OS- go with Samsung. Their slowness isnt a negative- it's a positive. There are 0 reasons to get the latest OS, because it _always_ introduces problems and the perks it offers are minor if at all noticeable.
    Thank you for reading.

      C FX totally agree. Really don't like that this talking point is on every review. Samsung's internet, email, texting, and gallery are all far more intuitive and mobile friendly (and good looking) than Google's alternatives. Not a fan of the bright blocky colors and text, and Chrome's controls being on top. The convenience gestures on Samsung internet are great as well. The forward and back keys being immediately available, the secret mode being biometrically secure, the swipe between tabs, and the long press on the tabs key to instantly open a new tab, it just feels like it was made for a mobile experience.

      Yeah, a lot of samsung apps are quite clean and pleasing to use, but often never gets much attention. But i personally do thing Bixby is also a great addition too, the only issue i have with bixby is that it's not as light as Google Assistant, the interface looks a bit over the top, and that "bixby page" just need to go away. The Samsung browser, in my opinion, is better than Chrome. There many websites that don't look or work right with Chrome. When is mobile Chrome going to support extensions?
    Samsung Gallery is better for managing pictures and video than Google Photos. I use Google Photos for backups.
    I use the Samsung email for a non-Google based email, that I don't use often but want to look at every once in a while.
    As for AR Emoji, if you don't like, don't use it. Go to your camera settings, tap on "Edit Camera Modes" and remove it from the interface. Customization is one of the best parts of Android. Samsung does not force you to use. Also if your friends stop talking to you because you sent them an AR Emoji, re-consider your friendships.
    Software updates. Samsung is better than everybody at software up other than Google. Carriers make the final decision. Since most CZcams reviewers are on T-Mobile, this should not be a problem for you since T-Mobile said they are not going to interfere with updates anymore. Also you can buy directly from Samsung. To say something further on security updates, if you look into the monthly security updates, many of the issues do not apply to Samsung phones, and sometimes Samsung send it out before Google does to their own phone.

    • @AndroidPolice
      @AndroidPolice  Před 6 lety +3

      Jacob Martin We're not saying one app is better than the other because it's obviously opinion based. All we're saying is that it is annoying that Samsung is forcing their users to use some of their features and apps by not allowing you to disable or avoid them by default. Yes AR-Emoji is an exception but not Bixby or Samsung Apps.
      As for the the Software updates. Samsung is not the best. The Galaxy S7 took over 6 months to get the latest Android Update which at the time was Android Nougat and Nougat had been out for over 8 months. As for the S8 and Note 8 it has just recently started to recieve Android Oreo and this Android update has been out for over 7 months now.
      Another proof that Samsung isn't the fastest with updates is OnePlus released Android 8.0 in February for the 5T and it got Android 8.1 in March. Samsung is just recently releasing Android 8.0 which is not even the latest version of Android.

      No you cannot uninstall every single Samsung 'bloatware'. You can only disable a few. You still can't disable the Calendar, Clock, Email, Gallery, Game Launcher, Samsung Internet, messages, and more.
      And also how is running the latest version of Android a ticking time bomb? I've been running Android Oreo on my OnePlus 5T since its first release and I haven't had any issues with it. Plus it didn't get updated immediately after the release of Android Oreo. It still took 3 months which is a good time frame, unlike Samsung which took twice as much time. If you're praising Samsung for not updating their devices as fast as other manufacturers I really don't see the benefits in that or maybe you're just a Samsung Fanboy.
      Edit: And my statement holds true. Apparently you're working in a Samsung Research Institute Bangalore as a Software Research Engineer so of course you're defending their slow updates and not giving the complete story about not being able to disable most features or apps.

    Well, I can tell ya right off the bat that part of your battery life problem is from enabling 1440p mode. Leave it on 1080p to save some battery life. Also, the biggest culprit of all is having the Brightness boosted up to near max all the time. You really should try to get used to using your phone under the lowest brightness possible, and only boosting it when you really need it. I did this and got used to the lower brightness within a matter of days and after that I didn't even notice that it was even set low. This alone will make a huge difference in battery life.

    8:10 - Something wrong with your battery?
    I get 20+ hours on a charge, with brightness at 50% and a 'Screen Usage' of 60% - I use my phone almost constantly for surfing and CZcams.
    As for _problems_ the camera software *could* be better, particularly for the video.
    There's a fair bit of bloat, but quite a few useful features too.
    The worst *Bug* is that watching videos in landscape mode using the speakers has to be power button up, if you listen to it power button down the left and right speakers are reversed.
    Speaking of audio, the ability to set it with a hearing test and the inclusion of Atmos is a huge ➕.
    As for performance it's number one for AnTuTu, by a longshot.
    Bit of a _clicky_ title, those aren't the *real* best and worst - I only agree on a few points.
    As for a case I got the Samsung 'Drop Protection' version; for an arm and a leg (1/3 off). It's fairly thin.
    My only whining about this phone is that it should have been 300 less, lighter weight wouldn't hurt either.
    Thanks for your opinion, and effort to make the video.
    YT,
    Rob

    Don't let software update fool you, update don't means it will improve your phone. most often time it kills phone just like ios update it kills older phone and if I could I would disable software update at all cost on my phone like I disable automatic update on in play store. If ti works don't mess with it and never update apps you hardly use so disable Playstore automatic update

    I've had the S9+ for two days. The curved edges are my biggest complaint. Trying to hold the phone is difficult enough but my fingers easily wrap around the sides and activate things on the screen by mistake. I hope the case I bought will help.
    I see no reason for curved edges on the display. If I had a choice I would have bought a flat screen.
    I also don't like the glass back. Why design the phone with a back that can be broken easily? Since it is glass we will buy cases to cover it and won't see the glass back anyway. What I would want is a metal or plastic back with some texture which would make it easier to hold.

    • @shawnnelson3194
      @shawnnelson3194 Před 6 lety +1

      John Donaldson the glass back is for wireless charging....u hitting buttons accidentally well there's an option to turn on that prevents accidental touches on the screen....

      After months of use I still hate the curved edges on the display.

    I have the S9+ . . . and seeing that I came from a flip-phone, I am grateful for the lower price and the benefits I have. Jaded people need to get a grip on their priorities and learn to be thankful for what they do have . . . rather than focusing on what they have not!
    The Tech21 cases are also very nice -- especially since their EVO MAX has a 14-foot drop protection.

      Default Profile Picture
      1.I apologize for this .
      The design really has gotten better right now .Samsung really stepped up their game.S9 has introduced new colors ,fixed the fingerprint placement .
      S9 and S8 are identical save for the back
      Look at G6 and V20 .They both use the same design yet I can distinguish them.
      4.Bigger is not better always .5.5 inch is the sweet spot.
      The smartphone industry as a whole is jumping into big display and monster specs bandwagon.
      *Nobody has a right to release powerful phone unless its Razer Phone.*
      Period .A few extra inches is not going to make you happier.
      Difference between S9 and Note 8 screen is a tiny 0.1 inch.Note 8 is a productivity device but S9 is not.
      Honestly S9 should have 6.0 inch and Note 8 should have 6.4 inch .
      8.I was talking about the camera .Too bad it has happened twice .
      9.I don't have to ??
      Then I despise bloatware but I can't uninstall them .
      What do you say about that ? I think it should be a waste of space and taking selfies is not going to do anything .Emoji is more than enough .
      12.There is no difference .
      6 GB should be reserved for Note lineup.
      Note devices have always been a mega monster variants of their S siblings

      The Pixel never beat Samsung, it's up to personal preference and this will probably be the case again with the Pixel 3.
      Also, you're repeating some of your arguments

      sadick muhammed I have the s9+, and have had the P2XL, and it's a toss up. If you like elegant design and material you'll enjoy the s9+ more, since the P2XL uses more industrial material, yet it's not very eye catching. But if you want performance, go with the P2XL, even though Samsungs apps are well optimized, stock Android seems to be be the better option. The camera department is a no contest. The P2XL has the BEST camera without a doubt in smartphones right now using a single lens. I've had better battery life on the p2xl (it's only 20mah larger at 3520 vs 3500 on the s9+). So the biggest takeaways are the s9+ having a better design, expandable memory, and a headphone jack, but you don't get the best camera, fastest updates, or stock Android.

      S9+ > Pixel XL 2. The camera is virtually a tie. I hate phones with no headphone jack and no micro-SD card. The S9+ has the best display and faster SOC. The Pixel XL2 is already outdated and it's way overpriced for what you get. There's nothing that stands out on the Pixel XL2 other than the camera but it's not much better than the S9+.

    • @chefbigjay4154
      @chefbigjay4154 Před 6 lety +2

      Vision33r I definitely agree on the P2XL being over priced for what you get, but the sd 835 compared to the GS9s sd 845, is marginal when talking about benchmarks and everyday use. I sense no speed difference having spent the same time with both devices. Yes Samsungs panel is obviously much better, but there are some aspects of the P2XL that can be considered better. Better camera (without a doubt a better camera), better speakers, better battery, but loses in the rest of the departments. You can't really go wrong with either phone, unless having a headphone jack and expandable memory is that important to you.

    • @Vision33r
      @Vision33r Před 6 lety +2

      I don't think I can pay $899 on a display that looks worst than my Note 4. Every Samsung from S6+ to S9+ has a better panel than the Pixel XL 2. I don't think the battery is better, it's clearly that S9+ has a lot of bloat. If we could root and debloat the S9+ it would have good battery. My Note 4 with custom rom can run 3 days on full charge.

    Just ordered an S9 as an upgrade to a broken screen Oneplus 3 (which was an excellent phone). Its only slightly more expensive than a 1+6 due to product lifecycle pricing, but has 2 key features -
    1) a biiggy in terms of lifespan - wireless charging (the reason my 1+3 has a broken screen was replacing the USB-C module - I also have had 2 previous phones go on USB connectors (HTC Desire & S2) before I discovered wireless charging with Nexus 4 and 5.
    2) I go walking in a short cagoule and get wet and am always worried that my phone will get soaked in my trouser pocket.
    BTW I always buy phones outright and get SIM only deals.

    In regards to the Bixby panel opening lag, the opening animation was set up that way by the developers. Instead of following your touch input when sliding from the home screen to the Bixby panel, Samsung decided to use the gesture method to open the panel. So, when you make a gesture it automatically slides your screen to the Bixby panel instead of following live touch input like how the Google Now Panel opens using the live touch input method. it is not a lag but a different method opening an app. I have no clue why they decided to use this method, they should have used the same method Google and HTC uses for their Panels.
