      Why should Africans accept to be neo- colonized economically and culturally? In France people are proud of their language being spoken by many countries mainly in Africa but they don't respect them, they would never accept to teach their children another language other than English, Spanish or Germany.Few people start teaching their children Chinese or Japanese for economical reasons but a lot of French despise other languages, especially African or Asian languages. They feel superior to non- European countries. How could they expect Africans to keep on defending French as if it was their real mother tongue while they continue to treat them as inferiors?

Whether it's hollywood or social media media, English has been dominating these fields. The impact of entertainment is very high on learning of languages. Most of my cousins, friends and even my little brother are fluent English speakers thanks to consummation of American and British cartoons and films. Meanwhile I have never seen or even heard of any French cartoons. And another reason that is the amount of people making migration to English speaking countries like the US, Canada, UK and Australia.

      I can’t stand that Macron, he encourages us in Europe to lose our traditions and spews diversity nonsense to us and patronises europe for our colonial past but he wants the francophone summit to remain vigilant on keeping French alive in their old colonies.
      It’s all because France has a new business plan to monetise French and he wants France to be the middle man and conduct business for their old colonies in French and to gain a commission.
      Diversity doesn’t matter when money is involved it seems and neither does the self hate for the colonial past.
      Imagine going around the world “encouraging” ex colonies to speak the language of their colonisers for a profit and to teach them to understand France culturally by trying to make them culturally similar through the language so they start adopting French in their everyday lives while preaching diversity.
      What a hypocrite.
      I think that the old colonies should be careful because just wait until they have a little disturbance and French assets are threatened and they might just find that they are subject to tactical bombing and the French foreign legion are being sent in to “evacuate French nationals”.

But more people still learns English because the US has the world hegemony, when they lose it let's see what happens.

    I don't see any logical, practical reason why French should not be supplanted by English as the dominant language. Preserving a language that isn't serving the international community well doesn't make a lot of sense. There is a lot of whining and crying out there concerning the demise of languages but it just seems like the natural and pragmatic evolution of culture to me. Not to say that English is a "superior" language but rather that it's the best or at least one of the best languages for business communication around the world and the world really does run around business. I also frequently hear, especially among Europeans, boasting about the ability to speak multiple languages. This usually directed at Americans, as though their monolingual habits somehow make them less "educated". That's nonsense. Imagine the greatly increased efficiency of communication around the world if one needs only to understand, speak, write in 1 or 2 languages, not 5, 10 or more. That's just sound practical reason.

    • @louis-er9xk
      @louis-er9xk Před 10 měsíci +1

    • @dans7497
      @dans7497 Před 9 měsíci +2

      Then you must be that "American monolingual" because if you knew other languages you would know that a language is not just a tool. A language also carries a history and a culture, that's why many people around the world are very concerned about protecting and respecting languages and many know about the need of learning other languages to better interact with other people.
      If for example you are doing business with a French company and you are trying to convince them to trust you or to work with u will not get the same treatment if you accommodate them and speak French than if you expect them to accommodate YOU and speak English to YOU.
      Using and having different languages doesn't decrease efficiency, on the contrary; it creates more opportunities for people around the world and it can be more efficient to use a different language depending on the situation.
      For example, if two companies from Mexico and Germany negotiate in one or each other's language it can be even more efficient for them rather than using English.

    Here's some historical facts about this issue:
    Unfortunately during 19th century, the French population barely had any growth in comparison with other European states, the proof is that only a few French emigrated to America or different places compared with millions of other Europeans who did that.The French population only grew by 8.6% between 1871 and 1911, while Germany's grew by 60% and Britain's by 54%. For four years in the 1890s, the number of deaths exceeded the number of births.
    During the colonial era, less than 120 thousand French settled in America, unlike 1.5 million from Spain and 950 thousand from Britain and Ireland.
    In WW1, France lost 10% of its male population, and millions of potential births were lost. So, to sum up, France always had deep demographic problem that whose consequences could be reflected on this particular issue.

Being an official language at all level of the Canadian Government and official in several provinces. As for North Africa if indeed English is now common French rules as a second language. Finally 2 languages have progressed even faster than English : Spanish (the most spoken language in the world after Mandarin Chinese) and Hindi. English is truly the only international language but not everyone speaks it and other languages are very useful.

    This video only covered the issue surface level. France was very reluctant to let go of its colonial power over it ex-colonial and screw them over in many ways, even causing coups and replacing rightful presidential candidates with pro-France ones. Not to mention, the brutal massacres(the French killed 1.5 million Algerians they committed on groups that fought for independence like the Algerians or how they set up the Hutu/Tutsi divide by deciding Tutsi were descended from White people (they weren't) and only giving them positions of power which caused resentment and led to the Rwandan genocide or the religious divides they stirred in the Levant that led to Lebanon (named after the predominantly Christian Mount Lebanon region) becoming its own country due to being predominantly Christian at the time and would eventually lead to the Lebanese civil war. Not to mention the CFA Franc situation and how France heavily controls the currency of many French speaking African countries. France continues to screw over many African countries which has led to the France and the French language being seen as the enemy in many African countries where there already is a native predominant spoken language like Maghrebi Arabic in North Africa.
    Some of the information is inaccurate though. Rwanda hasn't dropped French, it has just been promoting English and Swahili more as those are the languages of its neighbors that it does trade with.
    It's also wrong about Canada. I used to live there and the number of Bilingual English-French speakers has increased outside of Quebec and inside. More native English speakers outside and inside of Quebec can speak French than at any point of Canadian history. What people do is that they count native language and home language and use that to fearmonger about the death of French to make more drastic laws concerning French in Quebec. So more people can speak French now than any point in history, but because those people might have been born in Morocco and speak Arabic natively, but since French is an official language in Morocco, you learned French fluently and so you use that to immigrate to Quebec. Even though you speak French fluently, on a Canadian census on native tongue, it will register you as a non-native French speaker because you learnt French afterwards. Or if you have Moroccan parents and you speak mostly Arabic at home, but your parents also taught you French, the fact that you also speak French doesn't matter. Since your home language is mainly Arabic, it's registered that your home language is not French. Or if your parents are Ukrainian immigrants for example and don't speak French to you at all at home, but living in Quebec, your schooling and social life is carried out entirely in French, it still doesn't matter on the Canadian census, Ukrainian is still put as your home language so the census is very restrictive and doesn't fully explain the situation. The same has happened with English, as many Canadians in Canada were originally born outside of Canada, they speak a language with their children at home that isn't English which causes the amount of Canadians who speak English at home to drop as well, but English is by far the dominant language in Canada, amongst immigrants and especially their children who often speak their parents' language with their parents and many can't speak their parents' tongue, but only understand it.

Arabic is very important because it's the language of the Islamic world, some 2 billion people and gives exclusive access to an ocean of knowledge of the Quran, history, philosophy, poetry and Islamic tradition. Chinese is becoming more and more important in trade and business and will soon become Indispensable in technology and science.
