LYRICS:
Today's a good day
know it's finna be sweet
I'm listening to Dom on Kennedy street
remembering the west coast where the energy's sweet
I did my yoga this morning so my memory's peaked
but anyway, off-grid sh*t, nothing to tweet
the city's still filling up with those who dance off-beat
more than 140 characters, and all of them weak
they walk by, low eye, act like they can't speak
they walk dogs--when I say that I don't mean their feet
that's cause they scared of their neighbors, them they don't wanna meet
but anyway, this is third generation for me
my parents and my grandparents all from DC
so I feel like I notice things other folks can't see
And like I represent things other folks can't be
and I remember
all Black on the green line
and all the kids had jobs in the summertime
say what you want about Barry, but he cared for the poor
and that ain't who these new fools working for
I tell em, "That aint who these new fools workin for"
they tryna kick us all out and just build more stores
but anyway...
[HOOK]
But Anyway I could go on forever
bout all of the bull
that I'm tryna make better
or even about me and the twenty first letter
I feel like I know you
even though we ain't together
live forever
ok, you gettin money
well I'm gettin peace of mind that you can't take from me
so I feel I'm doing fine and as long as I love me
I follow my own signs and the world can't judge me
pretty or ugly.
Verse 2
speed cameras send me pictures in the mail
I hate this city sometimes, but oh well...
what can I do? pay the damned ticket
think it's unconstitutional but I don't picket
there's other battles, other cages to rattle
they still lockin us up and tryna herd us like cattle
I talk about it cuz nobody else tattles
they takin juveniles to Iowa, sayin that'll
teach em
but it won't.
I swear on everything this system is a joke, not rehabilitation
and it's not about hope
it's about the corporations,
ten dollar soap
and ten dollars for ten minutes on the phone till you broke
where they recording every single word that you spoke
they probably ignoring every single word that I wrote
cu if I ain't burn it down I was only blowin smoke.
[HOOK Repeats]
And anyway, I'm just speaking from my heart
even though the industry is tryna keep us apart
even though my enemies be steadily throwing darts
I'mma make it to the end, man I said it from the start
so play your part
and your position
pen and paper's like the pots when I'm cookin in the kitchen
if I serve it up hot, know the people gon listen
gon give it all I got, I'm the link that was missing
no more wishing
cause I'm here
vibratin off love
not the frequency of fear
I'mma keep it right there and watch the hate disappear
everyday is my year
get that sh*t clear.
She can rap, she's natural, beautiful, in shape, nice legs, hair, everything. I think I just saw% 100 perfection !!!!!!
Still don’t understand how you haven’t blown all the way up yet. People claim they want real hip hop, well, here it is.
Did I just fall in love???
I know right
If only I was about a few decades younger
I heard about this song on a NPR news show this morning. I'm absolutely impressed. Speak the truth enough even the deaf will hear it. Thank you for this 🎁.
This has me falling back in love with hip hop.
todd bailey Word!!
This song still on 🔥 🔥🔥🔥 to this day
Have to come back to you every time I see ANOTHER story about gentrification. Today in the Washington Post. DC has the highest level in the country. Damn.
I heard about this song from NPR. I'm a part of the gentrification happening in Oakland and though I try to be involved in the community, conscious renters can't outbalance the effect of real estate developers and those that want to swiftly profit on demand. All the while entire neighborhoods are getting displaced and are given no voice. I'm glad you and people like you are out there to raise awareness. Plus the song was awesome.
Love it! go Tarica :)
That flow that mind oh my gawd
DC Natives Anthem!
A real Emcee. That's it.
I heard this on NPR. So amazing! Great message! I love it!
2020 still bumping this. still relevant.
Excellent, beautiful, poignant. Well done, Tarica.
Respect.Respect.Respect. I ain't even watch the video first time through, just blacked out the screen and listened. Thanks for bringing that feel back real quick. We hold the culture, thats what makes the city, which makes them follow. Sometimes, I just wish for one more walk again
Excellent!
I've showed this video to 30 ppl. Spread this around it's actually the best thing ever and needs to get seen

I can't believe I'm just now hearing this amazing song! Keep up the great work.
This is Hip Hop at its finest. United, not Divided.

Absolutely, one of my favorites of all time
Thank you!! 💕
yeesss! I go to Howard but I lived in DC for several years before moving to MD. So many students look down on the area and the people in the area. Its sad and upsets me because this is home. They are pushing us out! Georgia Ave definitely isn't the same.
I feel you. The gentrifiers don't respect those of us who have BEEN here for generations. Thank you so much for your comment !
its a hit
So refreshing #hiphop
Well done sista. Nothing but love straight out of Brooklyn....

I really really enjoyed listening to this song. It was refreshing and Inspirational!
It was like Eve, meets India Arie, meets Lauren Hill, but with a delivery unique to YOU. Your contribution and style is what real hiphop needs nowadays.
I shared the video with Sinitus Tempo and Substantial, two of my favorite arts, who may be able to contribute to the promotion of your music. Stay Blessed. Keep Inspired.
Go head lil sis....
keep DC the chocolate city!!
Love these vibes. I just read about But Anyway in the city paper. Hoping to see you prosper in your career.
Thank you @richieish
bella :) big up!
I love you....
I love this song!! DC is a great city in so many ways, I hate that it has become a national pastime to complain about DC/ Beltway. Whenever I hear it I want to say how none of those sleazy politicians and lobbyest are from DC! Don't blame DC for them!
I see you, Star. Way to come back from the BS. They can't stop you!
Yo, I love this song. She understand the struggle.
Back AGAIN T. This time your man defacing the Robeson mural. DAMN. Son supposed to be checking out of General Hospital sometime next week
2020
A fuckin classic 🔥🔥🔥
Yo I have a big question for you. What did you mean when you said in your rhyme. They taking juvenile to Iowa?
Can you put this on Apple Music please
Soooo....one of the samples wanted to charge me multiple thousands to clear and I'm not selling the song, so that's why it's not on streaming. Maybe I'll figure something out though if they ever change their price. I'll keep you posted. Thanks so much for listening! 💕
#truth
"kick the truth to the young black youth"
+catothewiser Sounds like your opinion. You don't live here.
+catothewiser Sounds like your opinion. You don't live here.
+catothewiser take your L. that quote is from C.R.E.A.M and sampled on Livin Proof
I love this song. It has style AND substance.
This is happening in San Francisco now. The city has been dealing with some of the worst gentrification in the country. Sometimes I feel like we shouldn't be complaining-- because of the new people coming in, our economy is growing a lot faster than the rest of the country-- but I worry that the city is losing its soul. The Bay Area is a unique place because of its activism and spirit-- the west coast's gay rights movement was founded in the Castro, which used to be famous for its crazy antics (huge, loud parades in the street, nudity was commonplace, lots of drag, etc.) because the people there were proud and wanted to show it. Now the Castro BANNED nudity. What happened?
Im feeling this Tarica. Im also an artist and im loving that you with the hip hop movement. I would love to build and work with you oneday queen so if you would like to connect just hit me back.
I could get behind this mind being a common being thinking about the common positioning of being a being herself . But have back it all up is the hardest part because of fame is giving it all up to do it all over again then finding the school of fish to swim with also
Lyrics? I need them nowwww
Hi I only found these two verses online, hope it helps;
"But anyway, this is third generation for me
My parents and my grandparents all from DC
So I feel like I notice things other folks can't see
And like I represent things other folks can't be
And I remember
All Black on the green line
And all the kids had jobs in the summertime
Aay what you want about [ex-mayor Marion] Barry, but he cared for the poor
And that ain't who these new fools working for
I tell 'em, "That ain't who these new fools workin' for"
They tryna kick us all out and just build more stores"
"Well I'm getting peace of mind that you can't take from me
So I feel I'm doing fine and as long as I love me
I follow my own signs and the world can't judge me
And anyway, I'm just speaking from my heart
Even though the industry is tryna keep us apart
Even though my enemies be steadily throwing darts
I'mma make it to the end, man I said it from the start"
