Just my 2 cents. For an extended stay somewhere for a large or extended family or group of individuals that train together, medium to high quality tents might be a better option than building structures from random tarps and such. While a lean to or covered trench might work for a day or two, sturdy tents would a much better bet longervterm, short of building a log cabin or structure similar to what many of the contestants build on the show Alone. A surprising number of those burn down also. Some type of teepee might work also, but I'm not up on those. Finding the materials, plus the man power needed to build multiple sturdy structures, isn't going to be very practical or a good invest in energy and time in many of the senerios where you'd actually need them. Plus if you have to relocate all of your hard work is wasted. That concern about the time and labor to rebuild elsewhere might even cause your group to stay in a questionable location long enough to be dangerous.
Adult couples need privacy long term, as do teens, especially if you have teens of different genders. Everyone needs a little elbow room and space to store their gear.
Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel, look at what the First Americans used, trappers, miners, and hunters on extended hunts and safaris use. They pretty much all use sturdy tents or a form of tent (teepee?).

thank you! for your efforts AND your Service ... As I was growing up down in central Florida (Tampa), I was one of those weird kids who even coming from the Suburbs, rather than hang at the mall or pool would crawl around a SWFWM reserve that bordered our neighborhood (Pebble Creek) building tree forts and camp sights and swimming in springs and the Hillsborough River loving every minute of it. A little Ninja/soldier/mercenary fanatic I later served as a united states Cavalry Scout, foreshadowing I suppose. Luck of the Draw it turns out I have genetic heart issues and suffer congestive heart failure and with a third of my ticker and one Artery left in service at only 53 I can no longer play in the woods. Daily since I found your channel, I watch your videos and enjoy them immensely.so just a note to let you know the value of your work, like the love of my life my Elizabeth you are one of the things that brings me the will to keep chugging to see what's next, reminds me of the Beast I used to be, and the great times I had. so Again, thank you , God Bless, and God Save the Republic! Gotta thank you - been stressing over what to get my newly-teenaged grandson for Christmas. My son makes 10X what I do, and I can't spend at his level. But when I ran across this cantilevered floating bed frame, it hit me: Put together a bug-out bag ( Can't call it that around my daughter-in-law) for him and take him out for a day or 2, build a couple of these, show him that you don't have to have high-$ gear to stay safe and still have fun, eat some good fire-cooked grub, and just generally chill and bond.
Thanks again, keep these coming! You ARE appreciated!

Outstanding! Tarp weights!! Idea # 86, stolen, fair and square. Yoda, keep churning out the builds and I’ll keep payin’ attention. Keep up the great work!

Great idea. Especially for a permanent camp and build in an option to pivot the bed up and fold away.

I do admit. You come up with some good recipes to eat out in the wood. If you keep going you could do a book for camping inspired recipes.

Definitely a meal I've cooked many times at home and in deer camp. It's warm, it's filling, of course delicious, and its simple

Your family is so lucky to have you around. I wished I had a dad like you around when i was going up. But I'm glad you have a you tube channel to share your ideals. I'm enjoying these ideals

Reminds me of the tension sails at roman amphitheaters to shade the people. Excellent bucklist video.

Thank you for your service sir! And thank you for these great videos. I discovered them four days ago and it's been down the rabbit hole since. With the way things have been going as of late, better to know how to do something and not need the skill then to need the skill and not have it. I'm born, raised, and reside in Arizona and I just saw you have a desert video from 3 years ago - will must definitely be watching that! Thank again for all the great videos and I wish you continued success.

I found a downed tree that was almost entirely resin yesterday. When I came back from day 2 of harvesting the fatwood to save for later, I saw this video was up. Perfect timing.

Another outstanding video af!!!! Love your take on that shelter build, even better than the one shown in the picture!!! Give it to Corporal and he will make it his own! Loved your dish of choice! Easy Peary, lemon squeeze! Thank you for all that you do and the knowledge that you share in your videos!!! Be well and stay safe!

I would love to find straight lumber in the woods where I live, instead, we have hawthorn, apple and dogwood...none of which is bushcraft worthy. Awesome work you put in on this overnighter. Always love the foodporn...hats off to you, sir! Inspiring.
