@@robertott2631 Thrift Stores such as Good Will & Salvation Army have price tag markers just like the ones on the items he showed us. Many times you can find new in the package stuff like the tarp at thrift stores. I have gotten brand new stuff from "thrift stores" also.

LoL. Today I brought my laundry upstairs in a big garbage bag. My daughter laid on it, and I said "when Corporal goes camping he fills his bags with leaves to make a comfy bed!" She loved that. We watch you every week. She's only 6, but we'll be practicing soon. ❤️👍
Dude this vid is strait up as common man as it gets! The ability to just visualize the value in the basic items would be a challenge to a lot of people these days with how dependent on the latest and greatest technology society has become. The inspiration this video created was priceless! Especially for people who still have a spirit of independence and self sufficiency. Great stuff Corporal Kelly! Keep it up!

I like your bit on “sun washing.” My grandma was a pioneer and homesteaded in Washington state. She talked about “sun purification” and swore by it.
It also whitens your whites. My grandmother taught that to me as well as purifying your clothes.
I’m really loving these “minimal/improvised kit” videos. It shows what you can accomplish if you have the knowledge and skills to adapt to the situation.

Corporal this time I wanted to say an extra big thank you for all of the entertainment and education you've provided here on CZcams. It's too bad more people don't see what I see. Your $25 budget just goes to show how easy it would be for anybody to get out and spend a night in the woods. So here's my thanks and I hope you can use it to raise the steaks (and bacon) on a future video. As always I enjoyed this immensely and can't thank you enough.
This is how I started camping, goodwill, free stuff on Craigslist, and stuff people threw out at the curb. Did what I had to in order to get into the woods for very little money. Love seeing how easy it is to find items that will work just fine for overnights in the woods without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars. Some people get caught up in the gear and forget why they even went out, to enjoy their time outside.
I know I'm being repetitive, but this is again a perfect example of knowledge over expensive gear.

Love your videos! No dumb music, just the sounds of nature. I also like how you show people how they can survive using inexpensive everyday items. Anybody can spend big money on a bunch of expensive gear but I'll bet there's more low income people watching than anything else! Thank you for your Service and keep the outstanding videos coming!

I had never seen a fire started with the small flashlight lense mirror before - a cool skill. Spark onto charred material another one I've never seen before. It's great to learn a new survival skill.
I couldn't agree more. I have seen people use parabolic mirrors in this way, but never in the field like this. What impressed me most is how fast corporal Kelly got an ember. For someone like me who has drilled through so many hearth boards with the bow drill and still not managed an ember, except perhaps once, this certainly looks like the way to go unless the sky is completely cloud covered. In truth the only friction method I have had much success with even in the garden has been the fire roll. I am very glad of BIC for razors as well as lighters.

OUTSTANDING !!! This is reality. This is our future. In my career I have dealt with hundreds of homeless camps. That reality could quite easily be our reality all too soon. Thrift shop accruements is SURVIVAL. By far the best vid I’ve seen, and I’ve seen thousands! Well done !
Learned a few new things from this one. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't believe these are getting 10-12 minutes of viewing time. I always watch start to finish and 9 times out of 10, I'm wishing they didn't end when they did. Can't please everybody, I guess.
I'm with you on that. I don't doubt the lack of attention span today or the lack of well.... balls to be truthful about it. I'm about to be 43 and honestly feel my generation is the last to be called what we consider men. There are rainbow head dudes everywhere I go all of a sudden and for some reason they all have the same lisp. That being said though even with what's happening I still have trouble understanding 12 minute views. I've gone back and re-watched old episodes countless times and normally back parts up if I missed something.
I know. I watch to the end and wish there was more!

I have been very I’ll this last couple of years and almost died 3 times. I love the outdoors and especially being able to survive and thrive! I have learned so much from your videos, new ideas I never thought of for creating camps and shelters, knot tying (I appreciate the way you always take the time to slow down when tying your knots so we can learn), knife skills and your insights to equipment etc.
Being unable to get outside has been very depressing, but whenever I see you out there It gives me encouragement to keep pushing through and, keep moving forward so I can get back out there!

I was watching AB Camping and outdoors and he was tying a knot he mentioned that if the subscribers wanted to learn about different rope knots and different types of knots they should watch Corporals Corner and he is right you almost always show us how to tie a good knots.
Heck that crappy tarp was heads and shoulders above a tube tent. It was capable of numerous uses.

For me, it’s my favourite way to start my week👍🏻 what a cool way for teenage kids to start out, with their own gear. Gotta start somewhere, get them outside, away from the screen, and give them some good basic skills, that might save them, one day.

I like this idea much better than the $250 Walmart haul. During that, when you were suggested gradually swapping out cheap equipment for better stuff, I thought why not get better stuff from the start by purchasing used? Poor people do not consider $250 “budget.” And poor people are better off learning that QUALITY LASTS. Anyway, these are all great fun and I love following along.

I use sunlight all the time to sanitize inanimate objects.
I was four deep with combustion now I’m five with the parabola reflector. I scavenged high-grade optics from an old projection TV for the magnifying glasses within.

Once again the Corporal proves it’s better to have Extensive knowledge than EXPENSIVE equipment. Great job !!
Not sure if you know this, but garlic powder should be hydrated a little before you cook with it. Measure out the garlic powder you are going to use, add a tiny bit of water, then wait a few minutes before you use it. It really brings out the garlic flavor that way. Oil doesn’t “activate” the garlic, and heat destroys the enzymes that make the flavor, so hydrate the garlic powder first.
Wow. So many take-aways from this video.
1. Fallen leaves in a garbage bag as a bed.
2. How to cut wood with a non-serrated blade.
3. Knots.
4. Creating charcoal, which is great to know; could also come in handy to create an improvised water filtration system.
Love this! This would be such an interesting challenge to do, because it's so easy to spend way too much money on gear.
These products make you appreciate the real quality gear!
I’m now heading to the Goodwill Store to find some cheap crap for camping! I never thought a thrift store could set you up for an emergency night in the woods! Plus, you never know when you’ll find something great!

One word of caution about using used cook wear: Be sure to check for unusual residue on the inside. People use cook wear for heating things, which they were not intended for. I have seen people use old cook wear for melting lead wheel weights, for making fish weights. I don't know if that heavy metal residue would be removed by boiling. It is, admittedly, unlikely you will happen upon a cook pot with heavy metal residue, but still worth considering.
Thanks to this channel I have been inspired to get back out in the woods. I am heading out AGAIN this afternoon, and am planning an overnighter in the near future.

Not too far from the crap gear we used on trips when I was a kid. We spent all our money on boots, socks, down coat, and sleeping bag. I remember taking a small pot, utensils, and other stuff from my Mom's kitchen! I used an old, worn out before I got it Case knife for everything. Those were the days!
Parabolic lens, decomp wood, sanitizing or sterilization, learned a new fav knot, awesome!!! Love the improvement for leaf bed to hopefully get some sleep. Great video man. The temping of the wood great idea!!!

Using the flashlight reflector is a good method, not used much now. Back when I smoked, I lit my cigarette and then used it to light my fire. Lit a dead cattail for my fire the next day.
I've used flint and steel with char to light my smokes because I lost my lighter somewhere😂

Im just starting out hiking/camping/backpacking. And i had the misconception you needed to buy at least purpose built, or name brand gear to have a decent time. Finding your videos has shown me otherwise. Awesome builds with re purposed items, while having a good time outside, I like it . Keep up the great work Cpl.

Very informative video, really appreciate the way you show the knotting processes you use. The alternative fire starters were helpful as well. I watched beginning to end.
I think half my outdoor gear came from a very clean church thrift store. Coleman sleeping bags $8, billy cups $1, low backpack cot $7, dome tent $10, propane stove with a dozen canisters $15, dining shelter 8x8 (no poles) $5, etc...
Most campers should hit such a store first. Many people buy a bunch of gear, try it twice and give up. Most of what i find looks nearly new at 1/10 the price

20 min vids should work well. Lots of people get 30 mins for lunch and can now watch a 20 vid and get lunch too. In the past I didn't really understand char material but I do now. The flashlight reflector I didn't think would work. FnA it did.. great video.
