There is also an additional story element that was completely removed for theatres that changes a LOT of the story. Please find the director's cut. It's worth every additional second.

I wouldn't say he had a small role because his character was a humongous game changer when it came to the plot of the film. Think about it! If the king wouldn't have died when he did the Christians wouldve still had control of Jerusalem and a lot of blood would've been spared. Gee dumb ass not necessarily underestimated the Muslims but over estimated his ability to beat King Adid so far away from water. It was a stupid move and cost them dearly.

Only two actors have impressed me with their ability for showing a host of emotions behind a mask. Ed Norton for this movie and Hugo Weaving in "V for Vendetta".
I loved that scene of Baldwin and Salahuddin's exchange on the battlefield. They are both smart men, who are tactically gifted, and they know it. They don't feel the need to point out the obvious. They know as soon as Baldwin got there before Salahuddin was able to sack Kerak, the Muslims had no shot at anything worthwhile happening. He promises punishment so Salahuddin can withdraw and still save face.

@@Mary-dc6js Nah, you're wrong. Salahuddin even points it out in the next scene, he cannot siege Kerak with another army attacking him. Numbers isn't the problem. They can both count, bluffing is pointless. Warfare in that area, especially at the time, often comes down to control of water/wells in the area. Since Kerak has it, it would be easy for Salahuddin to be trapped between Kerak's walls and Baldwin's army, cut off from water and dead in 3 days.

KoH is one of my favorite movies and I didn’t know it was Norton as Baldwin until i bought the film on blueray years ago and his name was in the credits. I didn’t know until now that he actually requested he not be given credit for the role as he did an amazing job. I knew the voice sounded familiar when I first watched it in theaters but I couldn’t quite put the voice to an actor; I just knew whomever portrayed Baldwin was exceedingly talented to never show their face and yet convey so much emotion.

The directors cut, which is the intended way the film should be, adds a whole 40 minutes to character and story, making it a much better experience, I'd even call it a masterpiece.
I had an embarassing and yet funny experience with the acronym "GOAT". In one CZcams video content about King Baldwin. I corrected one commenter for calling King Baldwin, the goat. Nobody dared to inform me, nor corrected me that GOAT is an abbreviation for "Greatest Of All Time". I just find it out myself. Sorry to that one who commented. I wish, next time, those who will use the word the G.O.A.T, will have it all capitalized with periods, to avoid confussion with the other word goat.
1 of my fav movies. I love the acting and attention to character building up and how it actually finished out all the main characters' story lines. It is 1 of the few movies that allows all main characters to go full circle.
Lol that wasn't method acting. All Edward Norton did was choose a role he knew he was better suited for. The man knows how to act and better than most. Don't insult him by comparing him with talentless hypejobs who have to become drug addicts with glorified mental disorders in order to portray themselves as such. Kingdom of Heaven was a good movie. Sometimes the way expansive movies are edited the plot line gets convoluted. Norton’s father was a successful architect. Ed is a dedicated actor in a very competitive field.
Beautiful performance. Even just thinking about this character years after watching the film brings sadness, love and affinity to the character. I was mesmerised by him, the grace, subtlety and dignity of Baldwin.

It’s not about the role, its about the role conveyed to the audience. It wasn’t about a part it was about showing the struggle and showing a true king. THIS is what this movie conveyed. The movie conveyed the roles, the moments you didn’t expect to see development but got so much more
