    Does it matter to you which amp you have when talking about only a few decibels at most of difference? Should it matter? Should it not matter? Or does it only come down to distance and sensitivity? Or maybe you just have some difficult to drive speakers? And what about build quality of the two or three amps you may be comparing? What if they have the same warranty? What are your thoughts on all this?

    I was pretty close to pulling the trigger on a Bas-x A3 or A5 until I started reading stories of them going into protect mode randomly (A3 specifically) with no real resolution from Emotiva. I found a Model 5000 gently used locally and jumped on it. So far it sounds absolutely awesome! Paired with my Denon X3800h receiver which has a modest output I'm going to up my game from a 5.1.4 to a 7.1.4 setup and let the AVR just do rear surrounds and heights.

    Outlaw rates their amps at All Channels driven. It also handles 4ohms more efficiently. A good way to measure an amp is if it's power ratings double from 8ohms to 4ohms.

    I have the XPA 5, it’s an absolute beast. In reality most of these amps all do the same thing. And it’s not hard to do, all depends on how much wattage you need and budget right? XPA 5 is 250watts per channel all channels driven. It’s a lot, not even sure that much is needed…

    I know it’s small but a lot of us in the audio world are pretty detailed about our equipment. When I ordered an audio outlaw 5000 the power button was crooked and cocked to the side. I was running my Martin Logan Sequel II’s off a Carver m1.5t that had been rebuilt by carver. When I tried it with the Sony Elite SC-65 there was definitely an audible difference and both outputs were coming from the SC-65. It certainly surprised me. I loved that amp.

  • @synth505
    @synth505 Před rokem +2

    Im surprised there was no discussion on the major (and in my view) important difference between the outlaw 5000 and the XPA5. There are balanced XLRs on the XPA5. This accounts for most of the price difference and this is important for those looking for the lowest noise floor possible on higher end gear. If your prepro has differential, balanced XLRs make sure to get an amp with differential, balanced XLRs to take full advantage of the prepros dynamic range capabilities.

    I was interested in the Emotiva Basx line, but Outlaw amp specs look a lot better, especially THD. The thing is, on Outlaw's site, I don't see a 2-channel or 3-channel power amp. They make a mono-block and then it jumps to a 5-channel. How do you not make at least a 2-channel??

    The examples used are not really A to B. The Emotiva has way more power. I own 2 EPA gen 3 and love them. Have had zero problems. May not need the extra power but having the head room is very nice. When I feel like making my ears bleed with my Lsim speakers I know I can.

    I'm considering my first amp (for the LCR). I looked at Outlaw and didn't see any 3-channel amps. I'm thinking of an XPA3, gen 3. I have a Denon X4700H running Klipsch in the front and heights and Polk satellites for surround in a 7.2.2 system. The XPA3 is about as much as I'm willing to spend to start with as an add-on The 5 and 7 channel amps have less PPC than the AVR. Wouldn't it be a downgrade?? Just looked at the XPA 5. $200 more for each channel. Is that reasonable??
