What Happened to JEFFREY JONES?

- Lydia Deetz, her stepmother Delia and her daughter Astrid stand over a casket, the burial services in progress. We can barely make out who the funeral is for but there he is on the headstone: Charles Deetz. While Charles was once part of the BEETLEJUICE sequel when the ghost with the most was to “go Hawaiian”, he was written entirely out of BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE...for reasons that will soon be obvious. Despite the original’s and sequel’s dalliances with the afterlife, Jeffrey Jones will not be in BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE - or pretty much any other legitimate movie - following his disgraceful tumble from his small but reliable spotlight. Perfectly fitting into prestigious period pieces and goofball funny flicks. Jones is a Golden Globe nominee with consistent work - a mix of villain, comedic and at times patriarchal roles, Jeffrey Jones went from FERRIS BUELLER baddie to WHO’S YOUR CADDY?

Shame. He was always a very likeable actor. Was really shocked when this came out.
Psychopaths tend to be charismatic.
He scared the hell out of me in Howard the duck as a kid.
He looked like an irradiated Chernobyl victim. Like he camped on the elephants foot for a month. Lol
Man me too! “IIIIIIITS CLOSING TIIIME!” 😂😂😂
He's a wonderful actor. Unfortunately, that kind of talent does not guarantee that a person isn't a complete shit.
And similarly, having one socially unacceptable "kink" does not guarantee that a person IS a complete shit. He may only be a partial shit. He could also be a charming, delightful, funny, intelligent, kind, caring, and loving person. The world isn't black and white. And, until the scandal, he seems to have been popular and respected by his peers. So, not a total shit. And society - with its ever shifting standards and never-ending hypocrisy - is quick to condemn. Look at Oscar Wilde. Sentenced to hard labour and labelled a "pervert" for the crime of being gay. And Alan Turing, similarly, was chemically castrated. Both men now universally revered. All JJ did was possess some images which were considered *at the time* to be indecent. Who knows if they really were, and by whose standards, and if those standards were objectively fair? And there have been many instances of mainstream filmmakers filming "minors" in the nude. They weren't accused of any crimes, because what they were doing was "art". But who gets to determine what is art or not? It's subjective. Look at a film called "1900" starring Robert De Niro, Donald Sutherland, and Burt Lancaster. It includes a scene of two prepubescent boys (aged around 13 or 14 at time of filming) comparing penises - in close-up. One of the boys has an erection. It is shown, close-up, while he masturbates. This is a respected mainstream movie. Nobody was forced to sign a sex-offender's register. What JJ did (allegedly) was art - according to him. I'm not saying he was right. I'm not saying he shouldn't have been convicted. I'm just saying there is certainly more to the story. And even if he was guilty, it would be overly simplistic to right-off his entire character. Everyone has kinks. Everyone has secrets. No one is without "sin". Celebrities are just canon-fodder and easy targets for lazy CZcams channels.
Oh yeah no denying he's a fantastic character actor. Gave some really entertaining performances. But as you say as a person.......
We could name all actors in this category. You don't know shit about hollywoodland do you. Started and owned by the most evil people ever the j e w s.
he is far from the only sex offender in hollywood ....

why? walt was a presumed diddler himself 🙄
That and Lilo and Stitch was becoming so popular that they needed a whole attraction for Stitch.
Probably he is not in Beetlejuice 2 for the exact same reason why Dan Schneider was not in the sequel to Good Burger. Jeffrey Jones voiced two roles in Invader Zim as well.
Even though the Beetlejuice films are all about the afterlife, they're not even going to bring Charles back as a ghost!
They'll probably explain why Charles, and the Maitlands aren't in it. Perhaps they'll have moved on to something or somewhere else.
4:07 - The movie is called “Transylvania 6-5000”, not Transylvania 6-500, as you called it.
Came to say this. The title is actually a phone number, way back in the day people would use a word and a single digit for the 3 number exchange (usually in advertisements), with the first two letters of the word representing the actual numbers. So "Transylvania 6" translates to 876 (TR6). "Butterfield 8" is another movie that uses the same type of nomenclature in the title.

They left out the part about how he ruined the greatest ride at Walt Disney World, he played the alien president in ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. They had scrap the whole ride when all that stuff came out.
That ride was already gone by then, it was Lilo and Stitch right?
@@Mathadar nope, it was on the decline but apparently it was a major deciding factor on switching to Stitch.
@@tonyriney7257 Really, didn't know that. I saw the Alien Encounter back in the late 90's, and that was fun, but didn't realize when I went again in 2017 that the fallout from Jeffrey Jones helped lead to swapping to Lilo and Stitch, as some thing from the original ride still exist even in the current iteration of the ride.
His scenes in Ferris bueller day off were hilarious, made the movie more fun

I agree with everything you said up until the last part. When I heard the allegations against him and his conviction, I was completely uninterested. I barely raised a shrug. There are actual monsters in the world. A lot of them in high office. So an actor had some compromising pictures in his computer. Big deal. Zero f*cks given! lol

I can say that around 2002 some friends of mine and I drove by his house and screamed "Rooooooo-nneeeeeeeeeyyyyy!"
Don't forget he was the primary character in Disney World attraction ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. He was ' seized with inspiration! '. Come to think of it, with his 2002 arrest, no wonder that attraction closed in 2003! It all makes sense now.

Real shame. I grew up with this guy’s face and he was always great. I’m sure he’s had a few workmates over the years who did far worse and are still getting a smiling seat at the table.
This one was so, so, so good. Somehow, you managed to resurface and honor an indisputably iconic movie character (Principal Rooney!) and also call out the actor who played him (to not mention his "no contest" plea would be weird). That's a hard one to land. 🙏 👏 Great episode.
Considering how they treated Roman Polanski, I'm surprised Jones was blacklisted.
And I say Howard the Duck is pretty good and Mom and Dad Save the World is an underrated classic. "I'm the smartest person on this planet, and I'm an idiot!"
Principal Rooney is hilarious. The whole trying to get in Ferris’s house with the dog is just comic gold. Too bad he likes kiddie porn
Stay tunded is my number 1 favorite childhood movie that still makes me happy. Definitely underrated
Man the Bueller's Rottweiler (unamed in the film, "Julian" in the novelization) has got to be one of the most intimidating dogs in cinematic history... I mean Cujo had rabies, but "Julian" was making that face (3:32) for fun... LOL
11:39 "...he fell from his minor _grace."_ Missed opportunity to slip a shot of his Ferris Bueller secretary or him yelling her name, "GRACE!!!"
Underrated comment 😂
Jones did a solid performance in Spielberg's "Amazing Stories" for 📺. And, i remember him using that creepy Dark Overlord voice for an episode of HBO's "Tales from the Crypt." *SPOILER* Jeff Jones plays an evil school teacher!
Hey, Matthew Broderick killed 2 people. He still gets work.
It's a shame because Jones was the perfect level-headed, down-to-earth father to offset Catherine O'Hara's high-strung, self-centered and neurotic Mrs. Deetz.
Disney or Nickelodeon would probably hire him.
Interesting that Tim Burton stopped working with him and Reubens when he had kids of his own.
My first glimpse of him was Dr. Jennings in _Howard the Duck_ when I found the video tape curiously tucked away on an uncle's bookshelf (c. 1995). He didn't watch any TV though. It became a guilty pleasure of mine. Didn't see Jones again until _Ferris Bueller_ was playing at a video rental store. To me he was just an 'okay' actor, like "oh, hey, I know that guy!".
Wow...truly a shameful human being for doing that here. And well I am glad then he is not in the new Beetlejuice movie here...may he rot in prison for life😠😡
He was always enjoyable to watch. Threw it all away.
Only Jeffrey Jones and Dylan Baker can creep me out like a child's nightmare.
He lived in my hometown in FL (at least when he got busted) and i seen him at a grocery store... Then only like 3 weeks after i seen him, he was all over the news when he got busted...
Delia, not Delilah.
Delilah is a great Tom Jones song
'Mom And Dad Save The World' and 'Stay Tuned' are fucking classics. What a shit take. I was with you all the way till then.

Oh that line at 10:38 ... You seriously took the words right outta my mouth. Especially ironic as this w.end SNL, in honor of Steve Buscemi being randomly attacked in NYC; did a skit about the police being sure to keep an eye out for actors who are usually known as "that guy", so they don't become victims. Oh SNL..wish I could still enjoy it but their cast choices are pretty off the mark these days.
Yes yes this explains why Rooney was breaking into his teacher's students houses, and it was just bad luck he had such a time getting into young Ferris's house. He may have taught Cameron how to drive, "gear" shifting and all. ....I bet Ben Stein was on to him though....he was smart after all!
I remember watching out on a limb when it first came out. It's always puzzled me why this movie's considered a flop. I always enjoyed it as a kid and even now, I still like watching this movie. Jeffery plays two parts, twin brothers. One's a mayor and the other a man that escaped from prison. Hmm, looking back at it now, I can now see the irony. All that aside, I still enjoy this movie though.
It’s a shame. He’s ruined his career as a great character actor.
It's going to be weird because...killing off a character in Beetlejuice does 't mean they're gone. They're now a ghost and it seems reasonable that the Dietz-family will want to access the realm of the dead and inquire about good ole' daddy.
They'll probably hand-wave that notion away with a line of throwaway dialog
Think the trailer implies Lydia summons Beetlejuice when trying to see her father by mistake.

If some people aren't able to separate the man from the art on this one, then that's a fair take. You don't have to think that way, but if you do then there isn't anything wrong with that. Personally, for him, I'm able to separate the man from the art. No one really has the right to impose "you must separate the man from the art!" on anyone.

In November 2002 he was arrested and charged with violating California Penal Code Section 311.4 (c), Use of a Minor to Perform Prohibited Acts. He subsequently pled no contest to the charge of inducing a 14-year-old-boy to pose for sexually explicitly photos and was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to register as a sex offender and undergo counseling. A misdemeanor charge of possession of child pornography was dropped as part of the deal.
