Very fitting theme for Raiden's Alert Phase. I can see him (sadly) as a child soldier run and gunning his way through some jungle trying to survive.

It's because if you're wanting to write a song normally the brass would play a melody while the percussion would be going in the background, here though the percussion is actually playing a repetitive, syncopated part while the brass and synth are chipping in almost at random, making the whole situation feel out of control, frantic and unpredictable.
The same goes for most of the sneaking themes but they're much more mellow, making you feel like a sneaky type.

*SPOILERS*
The final battle of MGS4, you fight him, and in the ending cutscene, Liquid's mind dies from FoxDie, and then Ocelot's mind comes back for a few seconds and he talks to Snake, then dies either from old age or from his beatings. He was 70 at death. So because of Liquid's mind, it allowed him to live longer.

This mgs doesn't play like any of the other metal gears, in this one, if you get spotted, you HAVE to evade them. They won't stop spawning unless you do, and you'll often run out of ammo if you're even able to tank all the hordes of soldiers. It forces that 'sneaky' play style of the game but provides to real way to truly 'sneak' past them, due to Raiden's suit being... Not very good camouflage.
Story wise though, this one's definitely one of the best.

Actually, that is also wrong. In MGS2, it actually WAS Liquid posessing him, hence Cam Clarke. But after Ocelot regained control after the end, he feared he was going insane, so he replaced Liquid's arm with a cybernetic one. (Hence Pat Zimmerman) He still had to do his job though, so he used nanomachines and drugs to convince himself and the System that he is Liquid.

Splinter Cell and MGS fall into two different categories or stealth. While Splinter Cell focuses on moving in darkness and effectively hiding in front of or within the vicinity of enemies, very much like Thief, MGS 1 and 2 focus on close quarters evasion, 3 on hiding in plain sight and 4 is just a dumbed down third person shooter.
Splinter Cell is in no way a realistic simulation of espionage. Playing ArmA is a better demonstration of that.

so as to fool the public into thinking they were going to play your standard sequel. The Verezanno bridge ad with the Harrier was a DELIBERATE texture swap, as was the Fortune ad where Snake fights her. Then the demo was released with Snake as the PC. This was all to fool players. MGS2 was then released with Raiden, to demonstrate the dangers of memes and preconceived ideas and imagination (CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY AS SNAKE THE ADS SHOW IT IT MUST BE TRUE).

However, there are a few exceptions with American games (e.g.: "Grim Fandango", that game was the shit), you should check Gamespot's "Greatest Games of All Time". There's tons of American games in that list along with a detailed explanation of why are they included (but still, the most memorable ones on the list were made in Japan). Check it out, its awesome.
