I like "Suwanee River" but this is growing on me. "Florida where our dreams take flight" makes a nod only to Kennedy Space Center but also the birthplace of commercial aviation. The first (heavier than air) commercial flight was from St. Petersburg to Tampa, using a two seater Benoist Airplane. A model of this airplane can be found in the terminal of the St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport (PIE/KPIE.) Also, the Tony Janus Awards (Awards given to Commercial Airlines thought the world) are hosted in St. Petersburg and Tampa.
Could say it is a nod to Disney as well.

I can tell you aren’t from florida
I am from Florida, and there are a lot of hurricanes. There aren't too many alligators super close to where a lot of people live, but it is close to Miami. As a Floridian, the nearest sinkhole to me was a drive of a few hours away, which is not too bad. I've never seen a Florida Man anywhere too often, but there were a few cases. I agree with the hurricane state title, though. A lot of hurricanes might come during the hurricane season but when the dry season comes, there usually is a huge rain event for the transition, but during the dry season there isn't much rain at all. Also, I would like everyone to know that Florida isn't just the beaches and theme parks, even though they're great, that isn't all what Florida has to offer. I live in a smaller area close to a bigger area in Florida, let's just say as I do not want to give out my location information, but I feel that my town is really nice even though it is not as big as the area around me is.

In 2008 it replaced Suwannee River. Suwanee River is still the state song, but this song is the state anthem.

Meh. I mean, I get why they changed it, but couldn't they change it to something better and not worse. I teach elementary school music, and the best thing about state songs is that they're easy for EVERYONE to learn. Good luck teachng a bunch of 4th graders to sing this. I'll be teaching "Old Folks at Home" and modifying the lyrics.

I agree! I assumed it would be majestic not a 80’s romantic movie theme song. Cringe is right. I know it’s not always easy to write a song everyone likes but someone at Disney couldn’t have had shot at it. At least we would all be singing it!
