- G'day fisho's, This week Shauno and I hatch a plan to go slow jigging in 200m of water. Having never done it locally before it was new to us both but we ended up catching a heap of nice fish and having a ball!

Awesome effort sammy. Good feed there, here in New Zealand we call the red fish Golden Snapper and they are a prime table fish saught by many.

Very rare to not tap tap the right of the screen on a 51min fishing video. Rarer still for them to feel like a 20min vid. The first tongue-tied 5mins of the commentary made me chuckle out loud in the end, not to mention the awesome burp half way lol Your mate Sean'o is a great sport and the banter between you guys always the genuine article. Excellent bit of filleting on that size of fish & species (we have similar in our deep water here in the Canaries so i know it may look easy to the untrained eye). Chuckled even louder during the cook, but being in lockdown still & banned by the dictatorship to taste fresh self caught fish for 6 weeks now (& counting), when you finally bit into that wrap, I actually swore at you :-) Keep'em coming mate. Great session there mate. I took my boat out today first time in about 6 weeks. Did the whole stay local thing so hit the logan river turns out theres more than just catfish and bullsharks in there 😂😂😂 got a good feed of whiting

Just one quick tip for you: When you're scaling or knocking the sides off a spikey fish, you can best grab them in the eye sockets. Steady hold and works like a charm! Try make a fish wrap with coleslaw and mayo and a little bit of sweet chilli sauce, they go down a treat. I usually make mine out of panko crumbed barra

We call the Nannygai ‘Golden snapper’ here in NZ. Haven’t eaten one but have heard (as Shauno mentioned) They exceed snapped is the taste department. Sick vid mate. I stuck it out for the full 51:06 minutes, and it was well worth it. Lovely ocea jigger combo too 👌🏻

I believe the red fish you have caught is called Alfosino, they’re a great eating fish. In Sydney we slow jig them from 400-500m of water using 450-800g jigs

We call those "slimy's" Cigar minnows here on the gulf coast of Florida. Not sure if that's the same species though sure looks like it.
If you like Thai fish cakes, Nannies are the way to go. Sensational. A few comments on the size, we do get them bigger down south, any smaller than 40cm and they're hardly worth filleting, all head and tail. Love the vids. Looking firward to next Sundays.

@@SammyHitzkeFishing think the ones we get down south (the ones here in South Aus anyway) are a different fish, related to each other but different, these look like eastern Nannygai (Centroberyx affinis) and the ones we get down south are bight redfish (Centroberyx gerrardi) and if im correct (i might not be) they don't live further east then bass strait/tasmania.
we get eastern Nannies here as well but the bight redfish are generally bigger.
we get 3 of the fish in that family in SA both the ones already mentioned and also swallowtail (Centroberyx lineatus) swallowtail make excellent sushimi but can be a little tricky to get legal size as they are the smallest of them all and all share a size and bag limit.
I’ve eaten heaps of them and swallowtail and they are amazing in south Australia they call them bight red fish

Shauno's fish looks like a "Bight Redfish/Red Snapper" (Centroberyx gerrardi) vs "Nannygai" (Centroberyx affinis). Also looked like it had a slight deformity at the tail end.

The nannigai looking fish is a Giant Squirrelfish. Not much chop on the table but
Love the jogging stuff. Wounded how the arms and back pulled up. Even with light rods those 200g Higgs must take their toll. Add to that a couple of real fighters, the kingies, you’d have to have several breathers. Keep up the good content, thank you.

Nice video you need to get a landing net and use a drift chute it will slow the drift drastically...the jigs shawn use are really slow in fall deadly in calm water
Sehzad Nazeerally Haha Yeah we forgot the landing net! We don’t use a chute much as you aren’t able to stay directly about your line unless the wind and current are going in exactly the opposite directions👍👍🍻🍻
