    My grandma was a leatherworker when she was alive, not as much art carving but still, I can't follow in her footsteps because of joint pain, but I love watching this. It really makes me think of all the hard work my gran used to put in, 50-60 years ago when she did most of it. Thanks for the awesome content!

    Hey there.... great work man. I do alot of custom geometric stamped designs into leather for bookbinding and such. I use the same exact stuff, Angelus Matte acrylic finisher and then use Antique from either Fiebings or Eco-flo. I also use alot of Fiebings Antique neutral mixed with any color angelus paints as a color Antiquing. I lay it down and simply take a damp baby wipe and swip it over with a flat palm.... it takes off all that " Antique " 100% from the high spots and leaves a crisp and clean surface.... leaving it only in low spots. That works with both and even the eco-flo Hi-lite stains. It leaves all the painted surfaces clean, like they were before the Antiquing. Then I top coat with Angelus 4-coat satin or matte. Have a good one

    This question is for the Gorgeous Dye, Resist, and Antiquing video.
    The Celtic Bag.
    I had your videos all queued up and accidentally commented on this video. I'm very sorry.
    But may I ask anyway?
    Did you prepare the leather in any way before painting on the dye? I was wondering because it looked a bit shadowy where you beveled your gorgeous artwork. I ordered everything (except for the sprayer..... I sure wish I could have purchased it, but it was a bit too pricey for me right now... what other method comes close to spraying on the resist?)
    I ordered four items. But I only saw you use three. I tried to find out if the fourth may be a finish you applied before you started to paint? (Was it the fourth, if you mentioned them in the video?)
    I have NEVER attempted leatherworking like this before. This specific design and the finished piece was just so gorgeous, I couldn't help it, I had to try. But am kind of in a quandary if you:
    1) Prepared the leather before painted the ink
    2) What was the item I ordered (listed under your suggestions) that you used, and used for?
    I'm sorry this is so long.....
    Like I said, this is my First Leather Piece using resist and antiquing process.
    I am making a simpler design, just loved your gorgeous outcome of this one!
    Thank you in advance if you can help me out.
    Oops! My Bad!

      I just rinse with water, or if there's very little paint left on them.. err... I ... wipe with a paper towel then... well I put them in my mouth. Same brushes go in multiple paints.

    • @dinagoodart6690
      @dinagoodart6690 Před 2 lety

      @@DarkHorseWorkshop Your work is amazing but for your health, I suggest using a tiny bar of soap (like the ones in hotels) next to a glass of water instead of your mouth (I twist the brush as I run it across the dry bar of soap and it creates super fine points that keep shape). (But hey, you do you, and as long as your wife doesn't faint when she sees you do it, then get on with your bad self!) Also, you might want to try using a pigment ring and pigment cups like tattoo artists use to put your dyes and pigments into while you work, it may shave off a good amount of time that it takes to paint your pieces. Love your channel and am binge-watching it now.

    if you come up with a way to put an antique on without making the resist darker let us know! Also, looked liked the angelus top coat didn't make the piece darker, or was it because you put it on with the paint gun? at least fiebings sheens make everything darker when applied with a sponge/rag.

    • @DarkHorseWorkshop
      @DarkHorseWorkshop  Před 6 lety

      If it's on with a sponge I think it'd be a lot of liquid penetrating, and if you even touch a piece with saliva it'll darken pretty quickly. Perhaps it has a bit to do with the spray gun and being able to get an even light layer.

    • @prowokator
      @prowokator Před 6 lety

      Dark Horse Workshop yeah I would guess the coating actually starts to dry when it leaves the nozzle so when it hits the leather it won't penetrste so deep into leather. Cheers!

      Sir. Tony Blair. jr Applying this Artform to your Phonecase will look impressive as it gets handpolished with use. If you haven’t already done so, select your Masonic symbols and they’ll become connected by the chequerboard background design. I love chequerboard and use it often in my modern pieces. Triangles can be found to get the angle balance correct. Eye of Horus, set squares or Callipers to each corner. You can find the visual balance for the size and shape of your Cellphone on cello tape stuck to your phone and draw with texta on the tape. Find the design that you love most. Then you have the dimensions and design to transfer onto the leather, the way you feel comfortable, displaying Masonic symbolism. Good luck friend.

    Hi, on another leather tutorial was said that alcohol paint dries leather and you should apply fat on it before finish.... what you think, is it really so dry after paint? I see you don"t do it so i'm a bit confused ...

    • @DarkHorseWorkshop
      @DarkHorseWorkshop  Před 2 lety

      Do you mean alcohol dyes? Repeatedly wetting and drying leather will dry it for sure. If by Fat you mean Oil then it's often smart to apply oil after dying. I do that fairly often on my projects. But I never do it on things that I am waxing.
