Really good, detailed instructional with explanations. Thanks so much for your help. I watch many leather workers that are really good, Joe Meling, Don Gonzales, Makers Leather, TH Leatherworking and others. It does not make any difference how many I listened to each one shows technique in tooling and there are specific little hints that each one makes that come from their learned experiences. All of these together help make each novice or hobbiest better. Keep up the good work.

You are welcome. You asked what we might like to see. If you like to teach, then teach. Do tutorials like this one. That is what got me to other leather craftsmen. Your added touches and techniques are what make each of your tutorials special and different from others. No one has seen it all and the craft keeps developing. An interesting topic might be to take one tool and show its multifunctionality. Like to book Al Stohlman wrote so many years ago.
Did you know the finished product oiled, stained, antiqued was not in the video? I would like to see it.

😮😮😮 I just realized where I'm struggling... you're right-handed! You hold the maul in your right hand! I've been holding the beveler in my dominant hand and my mallet in my other one. 🤦♀️
I have a petal lifter but don't care for the imprint it leaves. I watched your deep lifting video and liked the result. Got a couple of the Osborn lifters and use them exclusively. I go in at about 45 degrees and lift. Doesn't leave a mark on my background. And gives me complete control. Thank you kindly, Larry.

I have a suggestion/idea, You could possibly insert "straight on shots" with "before and after" the different "steps" that You demonstrate. To make possibly make it even easier to get a "full understanding" of how each of the steps "develop" the work towards the "finished product".... Just a thought.

Impressive work. The burnishing looks good and even without antique finish, it looks good enough. May I know where did you get this type of Hermann Oak leather ? I always have problem with burnishing depth. Not sure if it is the quality of leather I use or just the skill ?
Thank you! The quality of leather makes a huge difference. When I use economy gear leather from Tandy, I don't get nearly as much burnish. Moisture content is a big part of it too.
I got that Herman Oak from Makers Leather Supply at the leather show in Waco TX.

Have you ever tried using a guillotine type cutter to size a square or rectangle? 8 to 10 ounce leather. I normally use a carpenters square, bump stop and an Olfa utility knife. Always trying to find the perfect dimensions as in a perfect 45 degree angle. With wood or a stiffer medium it is easy. With leather I have a difficult time. Get very close but not absolute precision. Perhaps I am expecting too much. Always enjoy your content.
I've never tried that kind of a cutter, but I think it'd probably give you trouble. Leather is very forgiving when it comes to dimensions and precision. You can probably cut yourself a little slack on the perfection. 😉😁
What do u use to mark your bevelers is electrical tape ? Tia and keep the good work up buddy.
I use the tape typically used for marking electrical wires. I go hang out and tool with other craftsmen pretty frequently. Nice to be able to tell our tools apart

I am trying to find a steep edge beveler like you start with. I am not finding anything with that name and my local Tandy store didn't have anything like what you showed.Can you suggest one to get?
I appreciate your videos and you do a good job of explaining your methods. I also like that you reference the tools you are using. However, as a beginning leather tooler, I can't bring myself to pay $35 to $40 per stamp for Barry King tools. I am sure they are well made, but I just can't justify the expense. I have a fair number of Craft Tool stamps at $7 each, and a few I have paid $14 for. Could you link to some tools that are more budget friendly? Thanks.

What is this waterproof tracing paper called and gotten from? I tried Velum and it doesn't hold up against wet leather.

Looks like the free patterns are gone
What is the product number for the steep edge beveler? For example, a checkered beveler is a B197 stamp.
Or, sorry--checkered beveler is a B201 stamp.
The steep edge is by Barry King and doesn't have a number. However, there's a link in the description if you'd like one.

the swivel knife you using seem like little different. can tell me what kind? is it specially made? I do have a problem with my thump so have a hard time using a regular swivel knife. thank you.
It's the Dwayne Watts swivel knife. Really like it.

It's just standard tracing paper. You can get it pretty much everywhere, but most leather shops carry it.

What was the matting tool you used?
That was the one tool I couldn't find on Amazon. It's just a craft tool from Tandy... checkered matting tool. Congress in two sizes.

Links should be in the description. The XX steep bevel is the most versatile one that I've used and would point you to that one first.
