  • The effect of social pressure and stereotypes about sex/gender is massive, as there is an urge to a certain direction based only on the sex we were born with. Gender capitalism is the recognition of society’s perception of gender and being able to use that perception in the most advantageous way. It does not mean that people cannot identify with their own gender, it just means they do not recognize the stereotypes society places on that gender. Overall, it means people must exceed the limits of social norms and become advocates for each other.
Rain Dove is the androgynous/agender model who has been in many magazines like W,
Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Cosmo, Harper's Bazaar, etc. She has created several viral
campaigns including a lingerie shoot challenging Victoria Secrets’ beauty standards which
reached over 35 countries. She is also known for her humanitarian action. Her recent video
combatting HB2 has garnered millions of views and has discovered a previously unexposed
illegality to the bill. She also speaks about homelessness and hunger both of which she has
experienced herself. Prior to her fashion career, she was a wilderness firefighter and also
obtained a BA in Genetic Engineering from UC Berkeley.

Great message. And as to people complaining about how nervous she was... We'd all be that nervous if we were talking to that horrible of an audience... most of them were on their phones, or fidgeting like they were bored. Amazing job, Rain!

San Handles I fully agree with you here. She needs help, not a platform. She is deliberately making a show of herself here to get attention, to get others to tell her she has risen above being average like the rest of us. It's why she has that ridiculous name, shows off her armpits, isn't wearing a bra, has that buzzcut. All of it builds into this spectacle so she can get attention and feed an obvious need to be elevated above the rest of us.

hm not trying to get into a debate here, just a few clarifications. Rain Dove is the name she was given at birth, and as she says, she doesn't care what pronouns you use. The thing is, she is a very androgynous human being, and she is confronted to our society's expectations of what people should look like/act like according to their gender on a daily basis. It's just part of her life, and she couldn't possibly ignore it. So she's anything but an attention seeker.

Fun fact, in Persian language (my first language) there is no term such as She or He, basically we don't specify the person's gender when we are talking about them, we use one word for every person and i quite love this part of my language. I'm not gonna talk about historical part of this fact, But if we can call everyone with the same word. I think maybe other languages can change a little bit and do the same thing?! And if you really wanted to stop society from putting "things in a box to be able to label(...)to simplify our existence for fear of the unknown.", The lgbt+ activist wouldn't have invented the names and "definitions" of +60 more genders (especially since all those "definitions" were just personality traits).
These 1st world spoiled brats are complaining about old stereotypes that have little to no influence in developed countries, especially to THEM who can do whichever job and have whichever hobby they desire without being publicly and legally reprimanded (they are even encouraged to be in fields they were not able to be in when stereotypes were still a living issue, which is fine).

Very, very interesting. I realised that I have adjusted my posture and output to suit all sorts of situations. Through this many of my friends from different times of my life, different work situations of my life, know me as a different person. If two of my friends from different situations described me to a stranger, that stranger would think that I was two different people. Basically the same, kind, thoughtful, but after that it would go in different paths because of how I had to portray myself to survive in the particular situation I was in at the time. My gender didn't change per se, but the type of female I was, was perceived as different.

      that so?
Weird, I thought women weren't allowed to be priests or popes...
Not to mention women being the literal source of mankind's greatest sin...
And in the new testament, women have no protagonism. The few apocrypha that have women protagonists were declared heretic by christian "authorities" of the time. (the only "authority" they had was self-naming themselves like that)
In fact, most gnostic works seem to point out that christianity had a more "dualistic" and "male is equal to female" approach, with jesus being just half of an Aeon, and Sophia (wisdom, female) being the other half.
But it seems like christian "authorities" didn't like that very much. It was so much so, that a lot of gnostic teachings were found in bottles in the dead sea...Just so that those "authorities" didn't destroy them.
Do you really believe that there is no gender inequality in christianism, now?

    • @bryceclark920
      @bryceclark920 Před 6 lety +7

Hey, allow me to explain what I mean by 'ideology'. This current wave of identity politics attacking the binary of gender stems from a philosophical tradition knows as Kantianism and later Phenomenology. What Kantianism strove to do, after the growth of Enlightenment Ideals that emphasized human reason and potential to intepret and improve the world through empirical (scientific) knowledge and brought about a new paradigm that was materialistic and non-supernatural, was to defend to existence of God by stating that there are two realms in existence - One that is 'Phenomena' and occurs within the scale of human perception, and another realm is 'Noumena' which explains for such intuitive feelings like belief in the existence of God that can't be explained by reason or science (or Kant believed; today we understand this belief as stemming from an underdevelopment in certain regions of the brain). Anyways, the 'Noumena' defends the belief in things that are Irrational and would spawn a series of philosophical movements including Irrationalism and Post-Modernist critique like Dadaism which accept no accountability for their incongruencies or inconsistencies in their philosophical doctrine or statements and claims that human feeling and intuitive are more accurate than reason. When this speaker says things like, "And you're taught about yourself in a scientific way," she is attacking the validity of science and human reason (without perhaps realizing the ideological stance she is taking and the tradition she is following) to comprehend reality, and this is fundamentally flawed because disciplines like physics, chemistry, and biology have PROVEN that science is, in fact, the most comprehensive way of surely interpreting reality and interpreting evolutionary behavior in our species, not by solely 'feeling' or 'faith' or 'belief'. When Rain Dove says, "You are more than this vessel," she is mimicking the Baptist minister at the alter who says, "You are more than this vessel, your spirit (insert fiction gender) is real, and God (this pseudo-scientific Gender movement) is real, and it doesn't matter what science can prove, as long as you believe in it!" People that advocate positions such as what Rain Dove is advocating are incorporating that same measure of Dogmatism into an area where it does not belong as science is about inquiry and testing until proof is found and there is no proof in what she is saying about a gender that defies biological conception but there is proof of a binary with abnormalities (yes, abnormalities that are atypical) with individuals who have both genitals or neither or change through puberty. It is a complex discussion but one that should not be so overly simplified. Putting on a dress does not make you a woman, neither does wearing a hat make you a man.

Bryce Clark May I ask, why do you see the binary gender system as so beneficial? How can "logic, reason, and science" dismiss the existence of a range of human experiences in interacting with gender categories throughout human history? You talk about this difference relying on the use of different epistemes but really I think the crux of your conversation comes down to ethics--- how do you ethically condone the marginalization of "abnormal" identities? I also want to introduce the fact that all epistemes are imperfect, yes even science. Science is limited to the scope of observable phenomena and what can be empirically measured, an imperfect process especially when it comes to gender. Historically science has been used to confirm biases and the authority of science has been used to justify really cruel homophobia in the example of Sigmund Freud. Why do you maintain that science upholds the binary, and why morally do you think that is justifiable?

Thank you Rain Dove. This is water on what was parched soil. In your being yourself I feel more free to be me.
We are all beings of light living living this experience. We are a sacred blend of the masculine AND feminine, regardless of the genitals one possesses. We are all valid and beautiful just as we are, and it is a natural right to express oneself precisely to that which feels most uplifting and inspiring to the heart 🙏
