It doesn't matter if you call it a dirtbike engine (even if it isn't) the bike should be able to handle high revvs ONCE. It's not like I was pushing it before hand. But as I said, ACCT faulty probably. The head looks good though and a new owner has it now,
@Akeli cam chain tensioner... If its faulty, the chains loses its tension and snaps. And your engine wont be able to start after because your cam doesnt move anymore.

Manual cam chain tensioner was one of the first mods i did to my DRZ 400. It was highly recommended also need to do the locktite fixes to the flywheel bolts and sprocket
Mine doesn't like been over 120km/h a lot of time, normally I cruise at 100km/h, but I got manual chain tensioner. Bad luck. But I would rebuild it, new one piece valves and a new piston and you've got strong engine for another 30.000km.
If the cam chains fails your looking at top end rebuild not the end of the world but new valves new piston minimum, probably new rockers as well if there worn or broken, the tedious part is getting it running good again once it's back together, ps I don't have a drz I'm looking to get one and this won't stop me from getting one and even if your comment is old it shouldn't stop you getting one, pps cam chain failure is also a good excuse to put the act wide ratio gears in while you have the engine out

I got about 15000km easily more than half that is highway at speeds of about 110kmh she doesn’t even burn oil wondering if It’s worth putting a new cam chain guess not if u gotta split the cases I could just check by removing the valve cover and seeing if there’s slack in the cam chain... I’m trying to figure out how ur acct stopped working did it have zero resistance or was it maxed out on length from chain stretch very curious how to keep my dry alive as long as possible for as little cost as possible

I just cut about 3/8 of an inch off the spring on my acct when I got it.that was 17,500 miles ago and thankfully no problems but lately it's got a clickclickclickclick sound when I start it up for about a minute or so then it fades out and sounds great as soon as it heats up a little bit.hope it's not a sign of something going wrong.I can't resist riding long enough to take it apart and see.doesnt use any oil or anything though.I stopped worrying about all the drz noises about a month after getting it.mines a 2016.

this is a pointless argument so im only gonna say this cause ive been through these so many times, but 4 strokes and 2 stroked both are good in their own ways. 2 strokes are less fuel efficient, and they tend to only make power in the high rpm's. 4 strokes have low end torque and high end, but theyre much more complex. both can last for a long time if theyre maintained correctly.

Really? My Dr650 lasted 60k miles with lots of highway use at 80mph. The bikes are not tuned like actual dirt bikes. The dr650 and drz400 have way lower compression and can cruise at highway speed for long periods of time without issue. The cam chain tensioners on these bikes are tricky to install correctly. It may have been maintenance induced error. I have a CRF450L now and it would not be a good idea to run it at 80mph with stock gearing. It loves to run at 65 to 70. 80 is too high rpm on stock gearing. I got my dr650 up to 105 measured on my gps with a strong tail wind once. I rode it for several minutes at that speed. It never had any issues. The valve adjustments were always spot on. Only had to adjust the valves twice.

The race one has to be performant, not the other one. One is for the road, to last the most time it can, the other one is made to win races. BUT, what i sayed is true for all engines generally. Its not good to be at the edge for a "long" time. Even more for a mono engine. Some guys will always say like "Yeaaah.. BUT me blablabla" . I check up my ktm 525 after 150hours of offroad riding, it was brand new just because i made a good routine maintenance, regularly oil changes, good warm up etc. During rides we can go to more than 100km/h then downshift, but if we had a long way on the road, we never go more than 65/70 km/h just to respect the mechanic

Oem automatic cam chain tensioner is know for failing with the vibrations of the engine. It start clicking out tightening the chain and stressing it. Almost every DRZ owner swap it with a manual one.
Joe Antolak ifs because its built for racing. Its revs so high and makes insane power for supermoto. It wheelies only with twisting the throttle haha. But the engine maintenance is measured in hours, not miles or kilometers. Expensive hobby ^^

The automatic cam chain tensioner on these go all the time. You can buy a manual one on ebay pretty cheap!

Always check your valve clearances
Routine maintenance and do all the loctite fixes. Swap the ACCT for a MCCT

My 2018 701 SM motor blew on freeway at 1420 miles. Cam chain broke.

Mismatch 4 strokes usually last way longer, but 2 strokes are way easier to build

Had one for enduro... too heavy... bad weight distribution... bad engine... bad carburator... bad suspention... got a ktm 250 2t... smiling till now

The extra drag caused by the billboard sized registration tag was just too much. Those tags are insanely huge.
