The actual game is called "Association Football"
There are other forms of football as the game and rules split... Rugby Football, Gridiron Football (American), Aussie Rules Football. No one is claiming the sport isn't football... Soccer is just short slang for association.. the Brits made it. Most countries where their form of football is bigger.. whether it be Rugby or a derivative, are usually referred to as football as well.

I think ur confusing american football plays with football plays, the only thing that can be rehearsed and executed in the same way in football are freekicks and corners as there is less variability as everyone is standing somewhat still, in open play 16:07 messi vs maradona, u cant plan to dribble a ball like that before hand, that is pure instincts and finding gaps to run into and avoiding tackles, that play is pure coincidence that they are identical from the run he makes to the defenders positions and actions, the only possible thing that may have made less spontaneous is muscle memory and messi unconsciously doing the same run as maradona after watching him to do it, and thats only if he ever did rewatch it over and over again

Regarding 20:46, you're correct that Danijel Subašić, the Croatian goalkeeper, could have been better on this strike - the fact is, he was playing injured (yes, he was playing a *World Cup Final* injured. Apparently, the Croatian coach had so little faith in their 2nd and 3rd choice goalkeepers that even an injured Subašić was better than them.) 3 out of 4 goals for France were scored on the left side of the goal (so on Subašić's right side), and you can see he cannot really get any good 'push' out of his right leg.
I'm French, so I'm happy we won the World Cup, but I'll always wonder "what would have been" if Subašić hadn't been injured.

But i loveeed how the guy on top keeps asking "was it planned??", probaly thinking that the players stop during the game to set a play as many times as they do in American football!
I admit that there are some plays that they train during the week... but everytime he asks that, specially in the plays that he did, it's almost insulting to hear that, not realising how brilliant some of those plays were, that many of them were "improvised" during the game... and not set plays as the question implies! As if almost any player could do a well trained "set play"!! As if there weren't only a few (very few!!) players that have the talent and genius to do some of those things!
PS: I said "ALMOST insulting" because i realise that he doesn't know much about the game, and probably is comparing it to what he knows, American Football! I know that he means well.. but it still itches my brain when he asks that lol

answer to comment about players sliding on their knees. Football pitches have irrigation systems. Before each match, the system is active to wet the pitch. Prevents damage to the field, and prevents injury to players. The wet grass makes it easy to slide on yours without getting hurt. But some players have gotten hurt doing it anyways. Anyone who's played at amateur level, knows what its like to fall on dry ground. lol

Controversially when the match was restarted, QPR - knowing that they were still safe from relegation - again hit the ball out for a throw-in and remained in their own half as Clichy and Hart passed the ball near their corner flag until Dean ended the match a few seconds later.

Its hard to become a football fan out of a black box or in older age. You need a home club or your national team to get early in touch with. Then you have big emotions and its the best sport in the world. And no one calls it soccer (maybe the US , but this doesnt count ;)

@@StayingOffTopic Good Reaction Guys. When I watched Man City win the title at Newcastle 4/3 in 1968 then I must have imagined it. lol
Also, you could have mentioned that Man United thought they had won it and were celebrating at Sunderland. Controversially when the match was restarted, QPR - knowing that they were still safe from relegation - again hit the ball out for a throw-in and remained in their own half as Clichy and Hart passed the ball near their corner flag until Dean ended the match a few seconds later.

You talk a lot about emotional intensity and the magic of scoring a goal in football, but never point out the main reason for why that is - goal scarcity.
Fewer goals mean the importance of each individual goal is way more important than in any other sport. And the goals that are especially beautiful and important stand out more and become even more magical.
