- Nintendo Switch Sports was reviewed on Nintendo Switch by Colin Stevens.
Nintendo Switch Sports, like Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort before it, is best played as a party game, broken out for any gathering that needs a quick injection of goofy, active fun. While its sparse mixture of old and new sports varies in quality, Switch Sports largely sticks the landing on what made its predecessors memorable: intuitive motion controls, the ability to effortlessly get a group of people up and moving, and some killer menu music that's liable to get stuck in your head all day. Just don't expect to spend a whole lot of time with it before the novelty wears off.

The story about how your parents played the game really sums up a big part of the Wii’s success. The motion control were very simplistic and didn’t offer much beyond simple movements. However, people’s imaginations took it to the next level. The games didn’t actually recognize or react to your crazy movements, but the belief that it did made these simple games a lot more fun and involved. You could easily play Wii tennis sitting down, but who actually did that?

He’s just being honest. This is not the Wii Sports we know and love.
I’m just happy they haven’t abandoned the type of game that made the Wii so special. A lot of people will dismiss games like wii sports as just being a cheap gimmick but playing those games with friends and family is some of the most fun I’ve had with video games
Even me, playing wii sports' practice games all alone are some of the best experiences I've had with videogames.
People often dismiss the practice minigames because they don't appear on the main screen, but to me that content alone is almost better than the main game.
Wii sports is definitely one of my all time favourites. Seeing it on switch is extremely nostalgic

Honestly, archery is sorely missed. It was my favorite on Wii Sports resorts. The controls were really precise and intuitive. Hopefully one day as DLC on this new collection.

I’m excited for this game, but this does seem like a downgrade over Wii Sports Resort which felt a lot more fleshed out than the original game. This feels like it has quality of Resort with the quantity of the original, and considering that Resort is over 12 years old, this game really should’ve had more content than a 12 year old game

Worth every penny for the bowling alone, and now all 4 players can go at the same time that’s awesome. Hopefully we see baseball and boxing as DLC in the future.

They have already announced that golf will be released in fall of 2022. (for free) Hoping for a few more sports though. :D

Sad there is no golf, baseball, or archery. Its a deal breaker for me. The extra games in the original wii sports resort was perfect when you got bored of one game.

So for $40 game, we get 6 mini games. It appears Nintendo will milk this game with DLCs as running, boxing, table tennis, cycling, basketball, baseball, archery, frisbee, etc are all still missing.
Maybe 2-5 usd per minigame. So like 30 usd for all dlcs or something

Where is Baseball!?!? That was my favorite wii sport back in the day. Also the classic announcer should've made a return.

Finally someone who liked baseball, all of my friends who played Wii sports back in the day hated it for some reason lol. I'd also like to see basketball and archery make a return as well. 3 out of my 5 favorite sports are sadly missing in this game
For me the online bowling semi-battle-royale-style mode elevates this game to a whole new level

It's pretty disillusioning that they put both Tennis AND Badminton in here, when they only have 6 sports total. It's kind of a wasted slot that could have been used for sports with more variety.

To me it looks like you don’t have to move as much as you had to in wii sports resort. Which is a shame because wii sports was always about wild movement. Chanbara for an example looks like it only requires one quick handmove and not a full arm swing.

I’m glad this is back. Nintendo sold a wii to both my parents and my aunt and uncle back in the day who don’t ever play video games but found wii sports to be so much fun. Definitely something special there with wii sports.
Definitely think the replay value is going to skyrocket whenever online gets going

Contrary to your opinion, I've enjoyed the Football mode the most! It really feels the most tactical because of the importance of positioning, passing to teammates at the right time and aiming the ball correctly.
Shane that 90% of the time your team is constantly sprinting for the ball like vultures
@@indymaximus1566 It's definitely like that to begin with, but if you get into the pro league and make your way up, players start getting a lot better at positioning.
Also, if you already own RingFit physically, no need to buy the physical version of this game for the leg strap accessory.

Bought this game for my Daughter for Christmas in 2022. We had some friends over to play it and we played it together. We got bored with it in 2 weeks. It's been collecting dust on the shelf for over a year. Yet we still play Wii Sports Resort to this day. There isn't much of a comparison.
The lack of archery is for me the biggest flaw in this package - I'd have liked to see the game utilise the ring-con to emulate drawing back the bow string as an option.

A VR version of a Nintendo sports will be the next installment that will have novelty and be great fun. This seems like a Wii Sports repeat

Out of the 6 sports (resort has 12 btw) only 3 of them are new and out of those 2 of them are copies of tennis 😐
Recycle and reuse. Been happening on all platforms for years, but the Switch hardware limitations is making Nintendo dig up older games more often as placeholders until the next system is announced/released.
Volleyball too is pretty much just tennis without a racket.
They should continue the series by making a Nintendo switch party or a switch play of sorts. Just not switch music…

Kinda disappointing there's no basketball or baseball. Besides those being 2 of my favorites, that's just a bad marketing decision all-around. It's literally a sports collection and two of the most popular sports in the U.S. and worldwide aren't even in it.
Lmao no the most popular sport in the world is football in which it's a big joke in the US. Also included in this game. It's always americans feeling like they're the center of the world.

FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW THERE IS RANKED. When u get enough wins you unlock pro mode. He didn’t mention that all games are against real people rather than npcs and that there is skill based match making

Yeah 7 is a “great” score imo but this feels like a strict 5/10 or “average” not bad not great
Also, considering its predecessors this just seems like a lesser version on a newer console

@@DonutBurger Yeah maybe, but they also didn't touch on the online. I'd say 7/10 is at least justified by online. If you want to count the unlockables and ranks, 8/10 maybe.
Hopefully Ninentdo releases a new golf game similar to the tiger woods series.
My Father has played it every day since launch on the Wii.

Disagree with almost everything in this review. The only thing that feels true to me is that Soccer is most disappointing. But this game is lacking in content just like Mario Golf Super Rush when it first released. The promise of free updates at a later date just shows how lazy Nintendo has become as a company.
Mario Party Superstars didn't even have any new updates as of rn and only has 5 boards and 10 characters.
Nintendo have been doing the bare minimum for years. People don't expect anymore from them and are happy with bare minimum. So why try?

Nice game, but feel lacking. The games have less than the Wii varients. We had twelve games cut down to six... and the only real improvements seem to be bowling and soccer... one with an expansion for extra stuff. Soccer being a new game with old problems.
The second problem is the odd lack of equipment to make for Mii stand out... yes you can 'grind' and randomly pull a new piece out, but not a lot of these games will last long enough for it.
Mostly miss Archery, and some of the other interesting sports.

$40 is easier to swallow than $60, but still overpriced. The original games were typically packaged with the Wii, so those copies aren't really worth anything over $10. The DLC is going to bring the Switch version price to $60 or more. Justified? Hardly.
