Sweet sweet cars
The old cars yes, these garbage ev's? no.
Pr*ck is another name for an idiot and we'll call people that if we damn well please and they sow themselves as such, therefore Richard Porter for your opinions on the Capri I and many others will think you're a PR*CK!
The alpine is sweet. So is the hybrid prelude.
As noted, blobby garbage. Not a pretty car in the lot.
11:10 Polestar or Impo(l)ster?
i love the fact they completely ignore the cybertruck lol
Honestly would do the same as them.
For an EV truck the F150 Lightning would probably do a better job at being an electric truck.
Most people have already seen it on the internet. Also it's not available in Europe, it's literally illegal (no crumple zone to absorb the impact during a crash).
@@N3v3r_S3ttl3 D a m n (reffering to it being illegal in Europe)
As much as i would have loved a rant about that stupidity on wheels. I feel like the whole point of that car is to thrive of the addage of "there's no such thing as bad publicity..." so ignoring it is probably the best thing they could have done to annoy the dickwads who love it
@@joeogle7729 fair point
Smith and Sniff are simply the best at this type of video...thanks to goodwood for bringing them back...
Not quite, they never mentioned vehicle weights! Who cares if an EV has 900hp if it weighs the same as a Hummer
That Honda Prelude is the real star of the show.
@@MyViewToronto believe, yeah?
2.2 yeah
I might get slated for this but feels like it slips nicely into the gap the TT has left. Oh and there’s no ‘believe’ needed chaps, Honda have announced it’s coming to the UK next year. At a guess the carbon stuff swaps out for black plastic, roof on the top end model gets glass, interior maybe (hopefully) gets the tech from the very recent Accord refresh, slightly warmed up civic hybrid with the chassis / handling bits being closely related to the Type R.

New Ford Capri, coming to a storage airfield near you soon.
it looks more like a chinese copy of the car thats actually manufactured in china, the Polestar 2.
@outinthewildoutinthewild8687 "The legendary name is back". Just on a car shaped like a poorly designed SUV-alike. Wasted opportunity that an age group that it could appeal to (and possibly afford it) will ignore in their droves.
Looks like something from Ceebeebies.
It looks pathetic. I honestly believe in 5 years Ford will only be a B2B (commercial vehicle) manufacturer in Europe
🤢🤢🤢
For at least 20 years, Honda has been showing "concepts" that are usually about 98% production intent, with maybe some custom trim bits, but as Richard noted, you can see production car parts everywhere. I'm guessing the windows are blacked out because the interior parts are not final production quality finish and they don't want people seeing that - they will sometimes get early test batches of plastic parts that don't have the final textures or colors on them because the supplier is still finishing up the tooling.
The new Capri looks like a car I drew when I was 3 years old.
Looks like something from Ceebeebies. 😂
It makes me feel a little sick 🤢
Well said Johnny the misuse of the Capri name plate is shocking, do the PR & Marketing Depts learn nothing? Honda got the reboot right...
SUV buyers are simple minds. They will buy this no matter what and the name doesn't matter.
Ford had already sullied the name in the US and Australia by applying it to the terrible convertible they made by chopping the roof off the Laser / Mazda 323 platform in the early 90's. So the new car is a significant improvement!
That grille on the Bentley 😱 they forgot it had to have that round sensor and just whacked it in anyway 😂 it looks terrible!!
That is new EU laws, that the UK are signed up to still, safety sensors. And they cannot be placed behind grills so no every car has one. Some uglier than others though.
@@marksapollo it just has to be designed in, it isnt like it was a last minute surprise
@@zzkamikazezz Yes that’s obvious, as I said some do it better than others.
@@zzkamikazezz looks like a spot 😂
Looks horrendous. I wouldn't pay that kind of money for a car designed with that intentionally. They could've at least centred it. And made the grill black.
How they managed to present the new prelude without any of the many 'lude-references from the podcast is beyond me 😂

It's funny Richard's reference to Elvis as I believe the Ford Elvis would be the perfect name for the new Capri. A perfect comparison to the evolution of the model 👌

Honda Prelude, wow, deadly. They were cool.

The Prelude and the Alpine look beautiful, and the MG is nice too. The rest? Not so much...
I'm not even sure about those tbh. I too like the wheels on the Alpine that the guy likened to BMW wheels, but I think I'd prefer them on a BMW.
loving the 'concept' Cyberstar coupe, esp the colour
They'll be in production very soon, much faster than the Honda concept car anyways.
Hideously ugly front ends seems to be a current trend with cars. Every single one of these was a complete munter.
it’s all these massive fake grills man. Atrocious.
I'd say the A290 and Prelude is quite nice actually
@@LuminalSpoon I quite like the Polestar design language too. Prelude looks a little weird from the side.

Enjoyed this feature. Richard's presenting skills have come on leaps and bounds since last year. Did laugh when he just walked off in front of Jonny at 3.47.
I didn’t knew that the new Prelude was going to have a internal combustion engine. I am beyond excited now.
Yeah but Honda make the most boring cars on the planet at the moment.
Will be a miracle if it’s gets more than 200hp
Wasn’t sure if this presenter combo would work, but heck, it does. Richard’s droll jokes and slight snarkiness complement Johnny’s more straight man enthusiast vibe really well. Well done lads.
@@russellclarke3803 It’s the one thing about their podcast I don’t like; these two are extremely competent presenters with valuable insight, but they just mess about every Monday. That said, they certainly fill a niche in automotive media and I’m not sure I’d prefer the alternative.
Don't listen then you total sleeve @alexbelmonte4581
I love the debate of the power output of the A290 when it’s written on a big board next to Mr P.

Wonderful presenting! Love Smith and Sniff. Much better than just reeling off numbers, you can tell the passion for cars.
New Capri is a joke.
By the time production ended on the old one it was also a joke so Ford staying loyal to their heritage then?
Personally, I think it’s less a joke and more an incredibly dull and expensive use of resources. There’s literally nothing to get excited about with it other than the name.
@@Whatshisname346They did it with the Mustang, the Puma and now the Capri. My next guess is the Gran Torino or the Falcon.

Cool to see Jonny Smith still doing car stuff. Loved him on Fifth Gear back in the day.
Back in the day.
Biggest problem with the Capri? It looks sodding awful.
That prelude is well executed
Everyone getting worked up about the name “capri” 😂
Can we talk about the fact it looks like a Polestar 2 with raised suspension and a Ford badge? 😂
@@JBFlytography polestar is a Volvo, Volvo's are Ford's, trickle down engineering, like when they put aston DB9 front ends on fiestas
@@groeacht8525 Nope. Ford own Volvo AB which is the truck, bus, heavy equipment etc. Volvo & Polestar is owned by Geely. A Chinese company - the same company that owns Lotus, LEVC and other Chinese car companies. (Also have shares in Aston Martin, Merc & strangely Volvo AB) but absolutely nothing to do with Ford. 😂
Yes new Honda please, and a type R version 👍
Sniff is definitely in the pocket of big Ford 😂, in all seriousness though, Jonnys opinion on the Capri is the overwhelming opinion online. By all means make a big SUV but don’t cash in on the Capri name. Ford uk got a hammering on their LinkedIn page this week.
The Prelude 🤤 I am buzzing with excitement!
Ford have got it so wrong using the Capri name on that 🤦🏼♂️
could have skipped the capri 🤮
What does the prelude look like in the metal ? It looks GR86 and a little 2nd gen NSX with the roof design. Does it look a bit big and bulky ?
Guys I love this but seeing this pair shouldn’t be this much of a treat they are quietly kings of automotive entertainment. Two genuinely interesting and decent guys who know their stuff should be on film as often as possible. I love the podcast I’ve been to live shows I’d watch anything these guys made together
Richards comments on the Capri were spot on. It was an embarrassment towards the end 1984-86 and this new one won't fair any better because it'll be £48k+!
Hate to say it but the new conti is not an improvement. Looks very frumpy.
Capri is simply tragic. What are they thinking. And just look at it wobbling and lumbering its way up the hill. Probably wayward in all aspects.
Love Honda bringing back the prelude.
Can anyone explain why the height of the Alpine A290 bonnet/scuttle line is so high ? Just look at how much distance/girth/bodywork there is from the top of the tire to the top of the bonnet - looks just like one of those mini-SUVs that's been 'lowered'... they obviously blacked-out the lower fender arch to hide/mask this visual awkwardness ... I've always understood that the manufacturers have had to do this because of the engines being up front combined with new (ridiculous) EU pedestrian impact 'safety' rules/regs... but there's obviously no engine up front here... so why not lower the bonnet line for improved sight-lines/safety etc ? Why does it have to be so chunky/tall/huge up front like that ? Teslas have a low bonnet/scuttle line - shouldn't this ?
Well done Honda - showcasing a car petrolheads want! Who needs a 2 ton 800bhp EV that will depreciate similar to current Taycan values? Cant wait to see the Prelude in the showrooms!
I was there yesterday, more people were looking at the old Prelude than the new one lol
Prelude buyers are loyal to Prelude, and my family had a Mk1 (NSC712T), 2, 3 (x2) etc. I'd love to have another look at a Mk1.

Best videos from FOS keep up the great work and content
1. The Cyberster apparently drives like a boat, according to Evo Magazine
2. The A290 is another freaking EV
3. The new Prelude looks like a rebodied Civic coupe with wonky proportions and comes with just an economy focused hybrid powertrain, nothing actually high performance
4. The new “Capri” is an unfunny joke, I swear Ford's management department are full of 🤡
5. The new M5 is an absolute land yacht
New Capri is a poor application of that brand name - would have been better called the new Ford Fusion or something.
Our family had 5 Preludes, I can wait to try the new one , hats off Honda!
New cars aren’t as exciting, but that’s what my grandad said so I will respectfully wait and see. The new lude has my eye by I hear no American model…. :(. lol at the cyber truck comment, if you got harassed about driving your fridge to work all the time you’d carry too. Great coverage gents.
Great video but the Capri is an absolute abomination. I'm completely with you Jonny! If there's a market for a Mustang then I'm sure there could be a market for a proper restomod style Capri with a long bonnet and 2 door coupe body. I can accept that it would probably be electric, but that could be the thing to set it apart from the Mustang whilst still delivering on similar performance. Call this one the Capri SUV (if you really must) and give us the true Capri we want. If you really want to make a ballsy move give us the restomod and put a big Cosworth engine in it, don't tell me that wouldn't sell!
smith and sniff basically in goodwood!
Jonny Smith could have easily fitted in with Clarkson, Hammond and Gin May
That alpine, shut up and take my money!
My 2 cents on the Capri thing, they could have named it Sierra or Mondeo or something with 4 doors atleast
Sorry to say but thats for sure not a capri...
the green MG looks really nice
These guys are doing a great job. Need more videos

Look forward to FoS and Smith & Sniff each year.
I passed 2 MG Cyberster in Glenshee around 3 weeks ago. Must have been journos or test drivers I'm guessing.
Looking forward to the new Ford Transit E 2 seat roadster.
Fantastic video, love these presenters!
Ps that new Bentley is stunning
The effort on Jonny's face as he's trying to not do the 'Prelude Voice'!! Believe, Yeh!
That cyberster coupe is more capri than the new Capri
The new Renault 5 is twice the weight of the old one. And a fair bit bigger.
I hear all the comments about safety malarkey but, is this really progress chaps?
Prelude believe yeah
The headlights on the new Bentley Conti look like spoons.....silver spoons...
I would buy the Prelude out of these cars.
Showing the petrol powered Emira going round the track while talking about the EV chinese special Lotus is quite funny. And I'm NOT an EV hater.
I cant believe Bentley would put the radar on one side of the grill. They need a dummy one on the other side or put one in the middle. OCD? Me!
I reckon the MG Cyber GTS carries on in the spirit of the OG Capri - since I've only been in the Cyberster roadster I've asked around and the hardtop GTS coupé should be a more usable 2+2 design.
The Honda Prelude also makes sense in that respect, so let Ford copy the Polestar 2, build it on iD.4 hardware, fit a hybrid VW/Ford interior and price it way too high, then call it the Capri if they want. There are people out there who just don't care about value or originality who will happily sign over loads of PCP rental deposit and subscription cash to never own one for three years. Alpine show that there is a different direction for people who enjoy driving instead of just hauling themselves around in a BiK dodge.
Love to the family!
Impossible not to giggle every 2 to 3 minutes, with Sniff and Smith's deadpan remarks! 😂 Informative, too...

at 8.55 thats a lovely dig at Ford with the new Capri. doubt their marketing and design team care, but if you're going to resurrect an old name for a car, it really does have to have the same ethos as the original otherwise whats the point, call it something else lol
@@dankrafted I bet nobody would have commented if they had called it Zephyr or Zodiak……… maybe the new Capri was actually disguised as a Cybester Coupe……
Prelude 2.2 init yea
Look at how cool the Prelude concept is..
I'm with Jonny, Ford need to do another new 'Capri' to run alongside this Capri SUV. It could even be based on the same VW architecture, just make it long bonneted, low, 3dr and £10k cheaper.. It would sell.
I sold recently my 2001 Honda Prelude auto. It was slow but still fun to drive and I got $8K for it. However, my current 2001 TT 6-speed quattro ABT modified Audi for sale nobody wants for half the money because Preludes apparently are just cooler cars.
Your point about nobody buying coupes anymore is missing the point. People would buy coupes if manufacturers made them and the marketing departments got behind it. People will buy what they're told to like and buy. The only reason SUV's sell in the numbers that they do is because that is all thats being advertised and sold right now, and the marketing makes people think that is what they need. Manufacturers could make 2 door coupes like they used to, market them as stylish vehicles for singles, young/childless couples unencumbered by responsibilities, and I bet they would sell in huge numbers. The instagramers alone would love to show off their sporty coupes for all to see. They dont even need to be particularly sporty or fast, think original Audi TT.
Right now, people buy SUV's because manufacturers tell people that they're safer than a conventional car, which is usually not true, they're more spacious, which in my experience is also not true, and that for some reason, you absolutely must have a high riding position.
People can't buy what isn't being sold. The GR86 sold out so quickly because it was different from anything else on the market.
If Honda do put the new Prelude into production with a petrol engine, and I had the money, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
I imagine some folk will be up in arms when that Chinese make goes on sale in the UK. “Hey I just got myself a Hongqi, and man she rides like a dream”. 😜😁
What a great duo.
