If you are learning how to play the bagpipes, and you are struggling with getting a proper lip seal then this is the video for you! I have been playing the Scottish great highland bagpipes since I was a kid. I've always liked having a softer material on the blowpipe to cushion my teeth and prevent lip fatigue. The trick I share in this video improves my comfort and stamina when playing. This allows me to spend more energy and focus on getting my bagpiping technique down pat for whatever tune I'm playing.

    Until next time,
    Happy piping!

I've used latex surgical tubing I bought from a local medical supply store, thinking I purchased about 2' of it which has lasted a long time. Cut my piece off, stuck it in a coffee mug and let hot water from the sink run, then smeared a little dawn liquid dish soap on the mouthpiece which helped it slide on easily. I is indeed noticeably more comfortable and a world better seal. A piper friend had some sharp teeth and eventually got his mouthpiece roughed up which was roughing his lips up. I recommended using the latex rubber or next time at the dentist, have them dull his sharp teeth down. lol lol

I added a Reed Wrangler, which is the same thing only better because of the very thin metal inner surface that you can really sink your teeth into...

3 hints: (1) You can purchase latex tubing at Home Depot. Same as surgical tubing. You’ll think it won’t fit, but it stretches. (2) A tad of liquid dish soap on the blow stick before installing will allow it to slip on rather readily. Amazing difference, and no aftertaste. (3) A pair of heavy kitchen shears or heavy scissors do a better and safer job at cutting the stuff than a blade, which tends to slide off. Thanks for the video!

I have one of those old wrist rocket slingshots with surgical tubing on it That's what I use so on my pipes also home Depot sells surgical tubing but you got to buy a roll of 10 ft so I opt to go with my slingshot
