- Hello, hello! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted anything here but I wanted to get back into making animatics! I pumped this one out in literally one night so yknow, keep that in mind. Also, I should probably say that all my other animatics have been deleted permanently and I don’t have em anymore, but I hope you can look forward to enjoying my new stuff!

im not sure what terrifies me more, the part in the beginning depicting the abuse Edgeworth went through, or the fact that this implies manfred von karma did not sound like a dying frog when singing

people usually write him as defiant against manfred and hating him forever!!! but that isn't realistic
he lived under manfred's teachings for around 15 years so i think edgeworth would almost think of him like a second father
Manfred was gaslighting edgeworth which means that edgeworth would prolly think all the abuse he faced was his own fault.
he reveres manfred because he is litterally brain washed. which is why edgeworth adopts all of manfred's ways
you can even look at their character sprites to see the simularities between their shock/ nervous sprites.
they both hold their arms and edgeworth does a variation of the finger snap/wag (Franziska has her own variations of these both too)
Manfred is like a second father to Edgworth so after he finds out manfred killed gregory
personally i don't think edgeworth would seriously hate manfred but probably feel something of a horrible detached numbness.
to realize that someone who was your role model and someone you lived with for 15 years and learned from killed your father would make someone not feel anger but just shock and something you dont want to believe which is why he would probably try to detach.
ppl experience trauma in diff ways but i say this becuse franz reacts this way. she never tries to fully mention her father's crimes in the game.
and tbh that is heart breaking
sorry for typing this much but ig this is a rant bc so many people misintrept child abuse/gaslighting and i really like ur way of showing it with this song
edit: i also forgot you can see the evidence of abuse in the way that edgeworth immediately goes silent after manfred snaps in the edgeworth investigations. egdeworth tries to say something but after hearing manfred's snap he immediately goes silent almost like a dog ;-;
manfreds presence is still there, even after miles chose death. probably why he hasn't changed the cravat for something else

Yeah. If you play Turnabout Reminisce, you can see how much he respects Manfred and wants his approval. And for the rest of the cases in the game, Edgeworth is investigating because he seeks the truth post trilogy. But in the flashback, he's doing it so he can prove to Manfred that he can have the prefect investigation

And it especially fits the phrase "be more chill" bc Manfred raised Miles and Franziska to suppress their emotions and be purely driven by logic.
Manfred's idea of perfection is to be relaxed, logical, cold and calculating, that is probably what he was driven by: to force his kids into his idea of perfection to somewhat verify he is also the perfect tutor and parent to create other perfect beings. His obsession with perfection is all that drives him
this is WAYYYY more accurate of a representation of these twos relationship than most people say.
edgeworth was EMOTIONALLY abused by von karma for a long time,thinking he knew what was best for him. so of course while he would be sad,hed still think him to be more of a mentor.

I just I hate Manfred Von Karma so much. But he’s written so well so that’s why I love him. Same for Dahlia Hawthorne- she’s written so well to the point I physically despise her.

Yessss!! This song is pitch perfect to the vibes of this situation. Ive seen fanfics where mvk was physically abusive or did anger-based emotional abuse but I don’t really see that, I see him as doing this sort of cold gaslighting where Miles is made to feel perpetually inadequate and burdensome, but like he can make himself worth keeping around by doing as told and conforming to the ideology of perfection. The threat is not of violence, it is of rejection, and Miles has been made dependent on Mvk’s approval so rejection is possibly more painful than violence. The soft almost condescending tone on “good”, “now you got it” in the song is so sickening because I can 1000% see mvk using that exact tone on Miles.
Here’s a thought. We know from Investigations that elevators are a trigger for miles and he takes the stairs when possible, but I don’t think he would have been given opportunity to avoid elevators when he was MvK’s ward. Certainly never when Miles taking the stairs would have been an inconvenience. So I think over those years he would have developed a strategy to repress all visible signs of the ptsd panic of elevators but internally it still takes a lot out of him (being forced to interact with the trigger with the understanding that saying no or visibly reacting will designate you as a Weak Failure is kind of the opposite of good exposure therapy)
