    My first "amp" was an old reel to reel player and an old 15 inch speaker with holes in it that I found in the alley. My older brother and I wired it up, fixed the speaker with glue and toilet paper (stop laughing,it works well) and plugged in my pawn shop guitar and jammed away. I could hardly hear the high note but the low noted were loud and clear.

    I want a 3.5mm jack, ya know, the industry standard... Bluetooth is a luxury.

    • @ViviSectia
      @ViviSectia Před 6 lety +2

      The audio is also lower quality over Bluetooth.

  • @EarlofBaltimore
    @EarlofBaltimore Před 6 lety +4

    I think more people still use the 3.5 jack than the industry might think. I am pretty sure I saw a lightning to 3.5 connector at a gas station of all places. Gas stations wouldn't carry the connector if people didn't use it.

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  Před 6 lety +15

      yes, but I was recording it thru the headphone output. it doesn't sound as ballsy thru the 1.6" speaker haha

    • @johnduplantier5206
      @johnduplantier5206 Před 6 lety +5

      Not really a secret, but most large touring bass players play into a bass amp for show, and to hear themselves on stage. They're coming out through a DI, a good one typically, but a DI with a little dirt right before, like a sansamp , does the same thing that tiny amp does with higher quality for ten times the price.

    • @ared18t
      @ared18t Před rokem

      Most of the tone is in the speaker haha you swap it with some good speakers or run it through an impulse response and blam

    • @elonmush4793
      @elonmush4793 Před 6 lety +9

      I think that's a big challenge for someone who struggles with guitar wiring. ;)
      But a DIY pedal would be nice to see on this channel. It's all low voltage, can't kill Dan nor you.

    • @liammalone9263

      That sounds super dangerous

    • @peripheraldevotee94
      @peripheraldevotee94 Před 6 lety

      Well, it's likely not as dangerous as you may think. Sid McGinnis built his own amps for years, and used one of them when he played in David Letterman's house band for quite a while.

      @liammalone9263 Před 6 lety

  • @elonmush4793

    to be honest I think this sounds better as a bass headphone amp. I even like the overdriven bass tone. Usually I don't like dirty bass tones that much.

  • @newmeta2532
    @newmeta2532 Před 6 lety +8

    1 critisism: the aux input is actually very nice!!! in audio technology a aux input is worth more than a bluetooth connection. if you are on a gig you could connect the aux to nearly everything with adapters but a bluetooth module would be more or less shit bc you cant connect it to a mixer or stage box or sth. (i know that the amp is to tiny for a stage XD) just sayin

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  Před 6 lety +2

      People are bound to disagree with me on this. But for the record, I don’t mean I want the headphones output to be Bluetooth. Just the aux input for playing music thru the amp from your phone.

    Right now I'm using a Fender Mustang 3 v.2 running stereo out of the headphone jack into a Tapco 10 channel mini-mixer using headphones for practice. I bought the Mustang for all the on-board effects that are working so well I'm buying mini-effect pedals (thanks for those reviews, I'm ordering a number of them using your Amazon affiliate links). I think I am going to get 2 Donner practice amps and a mini stereo chorus and find 2 plain amps to trade the Mustang on for on-stage.

    I don't keep up with things but seems like there should be mini guitar amplifiers run on multiple 18650 batteries based on TPA3116 or similar class D circuits which could deliver 20 or so clean watts in a tiny package (sans speaker bulk)

  • @trentnichols5075
    @trentnichols5075 Před 6 lety

    Hay Dan
    Have a donner mini, morph distortion pedal. It sounds a lot like that little amp does on distortion. I like it a lot but if I run it in line with 2 other pedals, like say a wah & a compression it starts to squeal nonstop. I also have a couple little portable amps and my favorite by far is my Blackstar fly 3 watt with a 3” speaker. It sounds fantastic in clean & distortion + it has real delay! It cost me about $20 more than the donner cost but to me it’s well worth it. I also got a honey tone mini amp put out by DanElectro that was $30 it sounds a lot different from the blackstar. It is set up much like your Donner. Both of these run of batteries or 9v adapters. They both have headphone / line out & the blackstar has a line in. I like the3.5mm line in cable cu’z there is no lag time like I get with Bluetooth. I have some adapters to plug my iPhone straight into the amp. These little amps are idea for running into my Tascam DP-008EX for home recording. My nephew has a mini 3 watt Orange that sounds remarkable. I plan on getting more minis for my little home recording room. They all sound different from each other, they take up no space, & they go anywhere! I love them.
    p.s. love your videos, but it’s time for a little gun to go with the guitar. I’m heavily into both. Thanks Bro

      Firstly, I have a gun video coming next week! Secondly, your amps are great except that they dont have a rechargeable battery. But for your little studio where you don’t need to be portable, they are perfect! I just prefer the rechargeable battery for my uses. Less heartbreak when I accidentally leave it on overnight

    • @GunsandGuitars

      the problem is that bass frequencies need a larger speaker and more power in order to sound good. So there really isn't a budget portable mini amp for bass. Just go with a headphone amp, or this donner and use headphones with it. for good bass tone without headphones, you'll have to pay some money and it won't be mini unfortunately...

      Yeah it still comes with an adapter. I just like being wireless so I can’t walk around and still use my phone while listening to music.

  • @Yetimusmaximus
    @Yetimusmaximus Před 6 lety +1

    I know the demo was a direct out recording, basically using it as a headphone amp. But I have to say that this thing surprised me. I think it sounds better than most of the other prortable micro amps that I've heard. Yes you can get a blackstar fly 3 for $20-30 dollars more or the katana mini for $60 more but sometimes $20 more makes a difference to people. And if it gets stolen or broken you're out $40 instead of $60-$100. I might have to pick one of these up.

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  Před 6 lety

      Both of the amps you mentioned require 6 AA batteries, that’s the deal killer for me. This one is rechargeable so if I accidentally leave it on overnight I’m not heart broken.

    • @Yetimusmaximus
      @Yetimusmaximus Před 6 lety

      Guns and Guitars yeah that is another thing. I really don't understand why those amps don't have rechargable batteries via mini USB. Im no expert. I don't know how much cost that would add to production. But since there are a ton of $10 Bluetooth speakers that have it I couldn't imagine it being very much.

  • @brucelk19
    @brucelk19 Před 6 lety +1

    Damn that’s pretty sweet actually cuz especially if you gonna use headphones anyway then why lay $150 for practice amp or even $100 39 is nice and nice and small. And finally rechargeable battery not just AAs love that part too hmmm might sell the old micro cube n grab one these lol and can’t lie it actually sounds decent as good as most $100-$150 mini amps if not better

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  Před 6 lety

      idk man, if you already have a micro cube, you might want to keep it. those are cool. just buy this one too haha

    • @brucelk19
      @brucelk19 Před 6 lety

      Guns and Guitars true I wish the micro cube recharged but bad thing with my micro cube is the fx knob for
      Delay/reverb works but the one for trem/chorus/flange/phaser spins 360 so it impossible to find one of those
      Setting and then find the off
      Position again so it nearly useless if you bump it and the best feature for a small amp is now useless sux!!! So recently got anpeavey vypyr 15
      The older ones not the vip 1 think it’s 20 watt wish I would have got newer one cuz it has wah also and takes sanpera pedal so I wouldn’t have to buy a wah also cuz it
      Has envelope but i just can’t get the voodoo Chile sound I want out of that wish I could so I gotta
      Get my first wah pedal! Dunna why I’m rambling about all that lol but thanks for your videos and response man I love your channel could you do me the biggest favor when you have time???
      Do a lesson of the version of superstition you did in a demo video a few videos ago with the jazz master!! It was epic man n I love that
      Riff I can play the riff but not the whole song and def not the version you did with power chords and improve and seemingly took it down a string too which maybe the original does but that version you played was so epic love a lesson on that and to know the amp settings you used on that in the lesson
      Video if you have time man thank you!

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  Před 6 lety

      two reasons this one is better: 1) honeytone doesn't have an aux input, 2) honeytone uses a 9v battery, the donner is rechargeable, which is way better. Tone wise, I don't know, I haven't compared them back to back
