- Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Chordplay with The Chords Of Anthrax. This episode kicks off "Metal Month" on the LNL channel during the month of October and it also completes the "Big Four" of metal coverage on my channel, as we've looked at Metallica, Megadeth (2x), and Slayer in previous years, and now it's Anthrax's turn under the chord-based and rhythm guitar microscope - so let's dive in!
The chord-focused examples/ideas in this lesson were pulled from four classic Anthrax albums during their thrash metal heyday in the 1980s/1990s, and include thrash metal staples and deep-cuts such as 'Medusa,' 'Imitation Of Life,' 'Among The Living,' 'In My World,' 'Be All, End All,' 'Lone Justice,' and more!
Needless to say, if you're an Anthrax and/or metal guitar fan, or a player searching for some new chord moves and rhythm guitar ideas to play around with - this lesson is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!
the crushing rythym and precision drumming from Scott Ian and Charlie Benante are what makes Anthrax a unique and lethal thrash band among all other thrash bands
Would you do a Voivod episode in the future? (personally "killing technology"/"dimesion hatross" is my favorite period) that'd be awesome, love the channel, cheers!
I am already excited for this month already.
This channel is rapidly becoming my favorite each week. Thanks David.
Metal month. I like it!!
I just love the style and format that you use in these videos. Laid back, informative and always some great guitar playing. thanks
Music of my, (mis) spent youth!
Love Anthrax, especially the, 'Spreading the Disease ' era.
Some of the heaviest riffs known to man!!
YESSSS it's time for Metal month probably the best month of all looking forward to see what you have planned David 🤘
October already hell yes exodus would be a great episode !!! especially the covers they did
Metal month!!! Thanks man.
if you're not bobbing your head at the intro riff, you ain't livin'
Scott Ian is a beast great timing and rhythm. can't wait to check this out I'm excited for metal month this is going to be fun thank you very much man
NICE...I've been waiting for this all year!!! David........we need a Stryper episode of Chordplay.
Was literally playing the drums along in my head on that opening track
Another great video on a great band ! I'm always looking forward for the next one . May i suggest a Killing Joke Chordplay video ? Geordie Walker has such a unique style and sound...
Second that
Killing Joke deserves a two-part video. Geordie is an absolute mastermind on guitar.
Hell Yeah David!! This I definitely Enjoyed!!!
Anthrax on a tobacco burst strat. Love it.
Metal Month!!!
Funny you mention "Jaws" during the among the living break down. Charlie (the drummer) is a huge Jaws fanatic and writes a lot of the riffs
Anthrax!!!! I love "Among the Living." Thanks, David!
You got a new subscriber here. Great stuff well-presented. And I am definitely looking forward to Moshtober!
Good stuff David! 🤘🏻
MEDUSA was always my fave Anthrax tune.
Thank you for the intro story :)
i love the story Dave!!!! That looked just like my senior prom thx but mine was light blue. I'm wretching just thinking of that tux. AHHHH the 80s
great lesson as always. keep up the great work. can't wait for the 21st!!!!🤘🎸🤘👍
Anthrax has always been my favorite of those bands. Another thumb up for the shirt!
Great videos! Luv Lone Justice by Anthrax, thx for that.!
And I second the request for Voivod RIP Piggy
🎸✨
I saw nearly every metal band available in the 1988-90 era, and Anthrax put on the best show. They opened for Iron Maiden on the Persistence of Time tour, and it was amazing. The power of Keep It In The Family was unreal live.
I love your taste!
LOL, great mall story, David!
Very cool Chordplay too. Anthrax was the first of the Big 4 I got into back in the day and it was because of the goofiness and moshing around on stage .. and the TMNT stickers on Dan's guitar .. AND a song about Judge Dredd. I mean .. c'mon
anthrax tour with stryper, pretty please do Stryper
I usually say Big 7 including Testament, Exodus, and Overkill (hint hint) ;)
At 6:24 it sounds like youre about to jam that old Lit song!
Thanks .. I know you can't do every song that I like.. But was hoping you would show some of the riffs in "Black Lodge"..
Dude we’ve all worn something like that. I’m sure Charlie and Scott didn’t hold it against you. Lol. Another great lesson.
No “We” didn’t all wear something like that. 🤣
They're the reason I bought a shit load of Judge Dread comics. They seemed to have a totally different sound and vibe compared to the bay area bands. A more open sound... still tight, but not so mechanical. And yeah, they had a slight goofiness about them at times. Hey David, as a huge Coroner fan back in the day, I'd love to see breakdown of some of Tommy T Baron's riffs and solos. He was an awesome player and really inspired me. The band Watchtower would be another cool one... those dudes were off the chain. I actually got to speak with Doug and Ron on the phone in Texas! It was at the time when Ron was having issues with his hands and couldn't play the guitar anymore. Ron had so many creative guitar solos with Watchtower.
Rare are the few who say aloud they like Ugly Kid Joe. Great riffs on their songs and man, they have done something else than just the two songs of which everybody loves to hate. Thanks to MTV. And what always has been on their style is there lingers some very cool melodies under the riffs.
Saw the Anthrax on the Clash of the Titans tour in Weedsport, NY 1991. Awesome show! My favorite line up with Spitz. I remember Alice In Chains getting booed. Not metal enough I guess. Great lesson!
How about the Chord play of UFO with Paul Chapman on guitar.
Aw yeah, good choice Mr. B. Absolutely devoured Anthrax when they arrived....not so keen on some of the later releases but they are absolutely legendary. Scott Ian's couple of autobiographies are also hilarious and very well written for rock Bios.....well worth reading.
First chord reminds me Stone temple pilots ; #11 :)
Anthrax🙃🤘👍
I know they came in a little late to the party, but I consider Pantera a part of it. I say The Big 5. I hope you consider doing a video of them, if you haven't already.
Also exodus and testament, big 7
Welcome to Rocktober !
ANTHRAX was in "Married with children.." - Kelly Bundy won ´em ...
🤟😝🤟🇵🇷
