    one more best thing, after you done the 3d extrude, simply switch off the depth layer. reveal only the light layer and then rasterize it. it will produce more realistic instead of making mask on it.

    I actually started an old school notebook (like in pen and paper) where, time permitting, I jot down the techniques you show together with the tips, tricks. It helps me memorize stuff and I find it handy when trying to recreate some of the procedures you show. Photoshop Reference Manual is more like a tools inventory; you explain the way these tools may be handled and what we can build using them. Much appreciated every time!

    Instead of masking, there's an invisible option on the layer. You can tick it and it should get rid of your model and leave the shadow :)

    I'm a beginner, especially with CC. I've been using PS since version 4 with a 5-year break due to illness. I've tried several teachers on youtube and you are by far the best one I've found. I have watched 4 videos so far and with your techniques and explanations, my confidence level has greatly increased. Thank you so very much.
    In regards to a question on whether I prefer short tutorials vs the more lengthy ones, I choose the longer ones.

    I will definitely try using this technique. From what I saw, I think I should even be able to make a shadow, replicating overhead lighting, by stretching the depth of the shadow after rasterizing the 3D rendering. Obviously it won’t be exact, but a heck of a lot closer than using layer styles and possibly faster than painting it in.

    I don't know why but when I typed your name I thought of that scene in Die Hard 3 when McCalin kept calling Sam Jackson's character "Jesús". He said "Why do you keep calling me Jesús, do I look Puerto Rican to you?" McClain says "That's what your friends were calling you". Jackson responds "They were say 'Hey Zeus'. My name is Zeuss!!"

    Another 3D challenge would be to model hairs and merge with Photoshop images. But I have no idea where to start.

    • @PhotoshopTrainingChannel
      @PhotoshopTrainingChannel  Před 6 lety

      Model hair in 3D? If so, you can't in Photoshop. You can model hair in another app and perhaps bring it into Photoshop though.

    • @ChristinaMcKay
      @ChristinaMcKay Před 6 lety

      Hair is not really modeld in 3D. There are mainly 2 methods. One uses haircards, those are planes with a hairtexture that uses alphachannels, similar to masks in PS. 2nd method uses special hair systems, like the particle hair in Blender. Blender is a complete free 3D software. Just search for blender hair here on YT.

    This is a great tutorial! I love the explanation of where you are going and what you are doing there. I also love the explanation of why you are doing what you are doing (i.e. why you're using the marquee tool before rendering the noisy shadow), as well as the comparison of commonly used techniques and the one that you are demonstrating. I used this technique in an illustration assignment in order to get a shadow shape that was being projected on the ground plane from an object that was suspended in the air. It kept the shadow shape in correct perspective as well. Thank you for this tutorial!
