Do you have Bramley cooking apples in the US?
I usually don't wear anything, but because of the hot sugar I decided to throw on some boxers.
Sexy.
😳
Anyone here recommended this after the plum version of this?
Me
im doing this for Chef John.
I plead the 5th.
"You ate it! Nice move. Alright don't do that next time."
I miss this Chef John.
MrAngryGnome where did he go?
@@msBatFink He's hidden somewhere in your house
@@EricLeafericson If Chef were in my house I'd never tell.
i'm in culinary school and i always looked up to you when ever i didn't understand the steps of the recipe, i'm more of a hands on and watch video rather than reading the book, i like visualization, thank you chef john for the videos and instructions....
Usually i depends of the school's direction, our school teach the students classical French cuisine meaning the old fashion way, chefs usually frown and scold me when I do things that I have read at food book and watched from youtube that was away from what they taught at lecture. there I get to appreciate the importance of the basics, before you do your own style you need to learn the basics.
If you want it to come out beautifully and NOT stick when you let it rest and it wont come out of the pan just turn on your stove top for a minute to warm the sugar and it should slide right out when you flip it! The sugar/caramel just tends to stick as it cools.
Thank you, I was afraid this was going to be completely ruined. I'm going to use a cast iron pan, not exactly non-stick and I've had trouble getting the center of pineapple upside down cake out. Like, every time.
"Unless you ate it. You ate it?!? Nice move. Alright, don't do that next time."
This is the only youtube cooking channel that I never get sick of watching. I can miss a few videos from other channels and not care, but Chef John's stuff is always great to watch.
Here in France the old fashion Tarte Tatin lovers always say that it's a crime to eat it with ice cream or curstard. But you know what ? Fuck it, i'm even eating it with chocolate and SO WHAT ???? Watchu gonnadu ???
I'm gonna ask for some.
You do you! :)
Tamago I couldnt imagine eating it without ice cream
literally the only channel i can watch when sick with a cold.
I used a cast iron skillet, great recipe!.
I love everything about Chef John's videos. But the endings, describing the qualities of the food, are my favorite. Gives me warmth and joy.
Just made this. It is straight up the easiest and most amazing dessert ever. Thank you, Chef John!
This is an awesome recipe and I love Chef John's delivery! Easy to follow and fun to watch. And it turned out wonderfully! Thanks, Chef.
The Food Wishes Archives are the Gift that Keeps On Giving... Always impressed no matter how old these may be, the recipes and the humor are just as funny as delicious. Maybe that came out wrong. LOL
Thanks for another Winner, Chef John
So basically, if you buy the pie crust pre-made (didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, can't prove anything), then this tart has 4 ingredients: the pie crust, the apples, sugar, and butter (with the acid added to the water to prevent apple browning being the optional 5th). Seems like a super easy and cheap dessert for dinner parties to me, which doesn't require a long cooling period. And I love desserts you can actually eat warm! This one's a winner ;)
maserin1, I saw you buy the pre-made pie crust! I was standing behind you at the store! I waited 9 long months, to attack you when you least expected it! Ha ha ha!😄
Lynn Wilhoite You crack me up 😂🤣
Consider that a pre made crust will not be made with butter, and if you own a food processor you can make it in 5 minutes the day before.
Puff pastry. And you can let the apples / caramel cool down before crusting.
i can listen to you forever, chef!
"There are corporate food stylists weeping right now" hahaha
Haha!
Ahhhhh :D I just made it and Chef John it was amazing! I only had medium sized red apples so I used four of them but it was so so so so so tasty my god the caramel is so good. There was so major rearranging when I flipped it over but it was beautiful when it cooled -- thank you!
Chef John, I can't stop watching your videos. I'm an addict
Chef John seriously. You are my hero.
I always love the voice overs in these videos.
Chef John, I love what you do. It's magic...
this is by far my favourite ''cake'' ever! thank you chef john for the recipe!
Best Tart Tatin so far, and I've seen a lot!
Really well done
Glossy awesomeness. Yes! Making this for sure!
Who’s here from the new video where he tries to do this with plums?
Yass
I too saw that
Me, too! Saw the plum tart fail and immediately looked for this one. Maybe plums would make a good tart if they were partially dried? Or perhaps use plumped up prunes?
Rita Kelly I guess plums with caramelized sugar just don’t work together? Maybe if you just baked them in a tart and allowed them to steam in their juices. I don’t think you’d be able to get the same kind of glaze as you do in the apple tatin, but it would still be good.
"to keep your apples from browning" is very adorable in this context. 😽
This is brilliant! OMG easiest dessert from-scratch that I've ever seen goood job
Clear & concise instructions Boy with a pleasant presentation. My results were good too due to the overall simplicity.
I love his personality!!
Beautiful caramelization!
Me too! He is a natural convincing Chef.
I just made this recipe and it was great. It didn't look as good as yours, but it tasted amazing and was really easy to do. The finished product looks like it took a lot more effort that it did. A keeper for sure!
I want to make this it looks so good.
Thanks for the video, I have incorporated many of your recipes in my dinner and dessert rotation.
I have learned so much from watching and reading this guy's recipe on his CZcams channel what amazes me is that I do not have to pay to take classes in order to make some "fancy" meals. In this economic hardship, I have a job that pays me less $8 for 6hrs, and this is the only thing I have for a amazing dish I can serve myself, family, and friends.
Since a fan waay back in high school in 2009
I love the fact that you said 'around the outside' more than once. That's exactly what I was saying in my head.
I am an apple pie fan but this is nice after a heavy meal because so petite. Like it.
OOOOOH I've always wanted to make this!! Thanks Chef John!
I'm making this for thanksgiving in honor of the legendary Chef
Yum! Been waiting for a sweet dish, too much savoury of late. Thanks Chef John

I made this... It's currently cooking in the oven. Can't wait :D! Thanks, Chef John
Mmmm. I'm so ready for fall comfort food recipes!
I have sooo many apples on my tree, so it looks like we'll be eating lots of tarte tatin starting in July!
Fabulous...used your pie crust recipe and it stays crisp. I used a cast iron skillet. Your recipes always turn out perfect. Thank you.
Just made this. So good!

you are awesome chef john
damn my man never fails me. always uploads a video when im hungry as fuck in the middle of the night.
wow you actually made my foodwish!!! :D Thanks chef John!
Hi John you made a beautiful tart tatin that looks like a beautiful crispy crust tart incredibly soft and tender however hardest part is flipping to another plate thanks.
Mmmm! I love apples in the fall :) Nice flip Chef John! Have a flavorful day!
Thank you, I will try it!
Hum, so much different than the recipes I've seen (and tried out here is France) ! We tend to use a lot more butter, then start the caramel and once it's a little golden, put the apples in. Then it's pretty much the same :) and it doesn't stick ! Looks so good I love tarte tatin
Exactly why Chef John is #1.
Here is the version from a very expensive french enameled TT cast iron company: do the caramel first, put in the butter after the sugar is molten, put in at least 2 lbs. (!) of apples, placed on edge not thrown in "somehow", deglaze with Calvados, throw some puff pastry over it. Bon appétit!
thanks........ I'm giving this a try for Easter Sunday
You mean something like braised beef short ribs, or maybe cabbage rolls?? (as in the last 2 videos we posted before this!)
thank you for making cooking fun!
i wanna make this just because it looks fun
Now I got something new to make for dessert! thanks john! : D
you make cooking fun!
Thank you perfect recipe
Planning to do this for my catering exam thanks.
and it amazing
What the?? I was thinking about a tart tatin earlier this morning and when I check foodwishes I see this? Get the hell out of my mind Chef John.
enjoy the journey when you're cooking:D nice one
Delicious!
So..... this is so good I've made it 4 times already...
Haha I see that now. Oh Chef John you are awesome. And I am making this recipe!
Very cool! Make sure you use salted butter, the way the French do it ;)
You ate it?nice move:D god this guy makes the most delicious recipes!
I love the way you siiiiiing everytime you say somethiiiiing, it's reallyyy adorableeee :D
Fabulous
it looks great like always chef john :D
Actual french technique: You cook the apples in the Butter sugar syrup with a closed Lid for 15-20 minutes, the Caramel gets much richer Ehen you then put off the lid and crank the heat Up. For the cooling: if you could it completely in the fridge and then warm the pan up a few seconds over a very high heat, you have no problems releasing it in a whole from the
I cooked this for a parisian guy. He LOVED it.
Enjoyed!
i love these cause you get a much crispier crust than you do with a pie.
Tarte Tatin or "I really don't want to buy a pie pan"
You cannot make the caramel in a pie pan. Sure, you could make the caramel in a saucepan, then pour it over the apples in a pie pan. But when you use a pie pan, you lose the rusticity and flexibility of this method.
he said "round the outside" and i started singing ...and then he did too, oh i love this channel :)
I'm on a diet and trying to live a healthier life, but this looks so delicious I simply can't resist it! I just have to ask if it's possible to substitute the butter with organic yogurt and the sugar with molasses or barley malt? I'm also thinking some cinnamon might fit for this recipe!
Thanks for posting yet another great video. They're all instant classics!
