I love this video just for the reactions! Not as a first experience, but later on when people think they understand BABYMETAL.
It's like "I know BABYMETAL, they will mix jpop and metal" but when this video plays it's "What did I see? I did not expect this! WTF!!" or stunned silence trying to pick up their jaw off the floor.
I was laughing to this reaction before thd video started because I said "This is going to be crazy fun!!" 🤪
This is BABYMETAL still trying something different but you can see the mindset that BABYMETAL will not be pigeon holed into a single genre. They will (and have) broken the metal mold, revitalized a dying (imho) genre and created this amazing, unique sound of Kawaii Metal.
I am a hardcore metalist since the 80s, a metal elitist at one point, knew that metal is never happy, and I was bored with the metal scene. BABYMETAL broke me into tiny pieces and reformed me where I love music again. They did this with their badass music, their uplifting lyrics, their vocals, their choreography, their humbleness, their production and yes their cuteness.
I am so deep in the foxhole and I never want to come out and I will enjoy watching everyone else's descent into the joy of BABYMETAL.

While hearing this song, i ask myself sometimes, wether i would have loved this song in my childhood in the 90´s instantly, or wether it would have been too much of a genre mix i couldn´t understand back then. But now i can say its amazing! And i love all the other songs by babymetal, and i´m glad to know this very special band!

It must have been an interesting musical challenge for Kobametal to not alienate the fans (fukei) of parent group Sakura Gakuin during those first few years and yet still push the boundaries into kawaii metal. As a result we have songs like this.

"Yo yo yo yo. Microphone check. One two one two. Are you ready to mosh? Kitsune da o!"
Great reaction, the confusion when anybody first sees this never gets old (but well done on taking note and not calling it Line as so many do). Yes this was the second song they released, but they were playing IDZ earlier - Kobametal held the release of that back as it is a bit too "straight" metal.
With 'Iine' they tore up all the rule books on what genres can go together in one song, wrote their own rules then tore those up as well. They were establishing very early on that they are going to do exactly as they want, so if they think EDM, rap or hip hop, death metal and more EDM can go into one song, that's what they'll do.
The growling vocals in the death metal part (that has to be the best drop from hip hop to death metal ever, by the way) are telling you they are not holding up the traditional metal devil horns or Maloik, they are showing the Kitsune - the shadow play fox hand sign.
No, that isn't Su screaming - screams like that and growls are always on backing track.
Iine translates roughly as 'So good' - think thumbs up emoji 👍👍
If you are going to watch a live version I would recommend either a very early one from a Sakura Gakuin graduation show in 2012 or the Legend 2015 from Saitama Super Arena if you can find them. In most live versions they replace the hip hop part with a call and response - the two I've mentioned kept the hip hop part in ("BABYMETAL in da house").

@@GlassMoonGaming I was just about to post exactly thE same but as usual, Mr. Grington was faster. As he said, unfortunately, in most live performances they replace the rap part with some call and response but there are a few videos from live performances available that have it in it. So if you want to check on of those out, I am certainly looking forward to it.

    Are you ready to mosh?
    Put your fox sign up!
It’s a fox sign, you know?
It’s not a maloik sign but a fox sign
Not a sign of the horns but a fox sign, you know
I pledged to myself by linking my little fingers
    What a sentimental night!

My wife and my sister-in-law on my wife's side were in a club in Columbus, Ohio that played BM's "Da Da Dance," and my beloved was the only one that knew what the song was. Regarding "Iine!" live, the 2014 Budokan show(s) are probably the most accessible on CZcams if you're looking for the bigger shows. "Iine!" from Tokyo Dome has some great camera shots, but I don't think it's on CZcams.
As for the Kami Band, I do believe their first appearance is on CZcams. BM's first video release was Legend IDZ Apocalypse and consists of three different shows, one for each letter. The encores, "Headbanger" and "IDZ," were both performed with the Kami Band after a short video. I've seen the names of the Kami Band members from this time, but the only name that means anything to me is the guitarist named Shiren. It was his only performance with Babymetal, and I don't know which one he is, but he would go on to found Unlucky Morpheus. Legend I was performed at the tiny Shibuya O-East in October 2012. Here's a link if you're interested.

I'm definitely one of the "older guys" who was drawn in by the genrebending BABYMETAL show in most of their songs. I'm not a Metal head and usually listen to a totally different kind of music but BM managed to grab my attention and to open up my mind for a whole universe of awesomeness. 🙂 Without their incorporation of Pop (and Punk) elements they surely wouldn't have lured me into the foxhole, that's for sure.

The BABYMETAL team had 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' ready to go, but decided to release 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning' and 'Iine!' ahead of that song.
They were determined to keep from being boxed in to a single genre from the start.
This is the probably the ultimate, "Do you like music genres? We smooshed them all into this one song for you."
My favorite EDM Dance Rave electro HipHop Kawaii Metal JPop Death Idol song of all time. : )
Too bad they haven't performed this one since they toured with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in April of 2017.
It's one of the handful that haven't been performed since Yui left the group.
They're having some fun with the HipHop style, (As they say in another version: "That's not the Metal, is it?") before they hit us with the heaviest part of the song.
Su was still only 14 when this song and music video came out.
Cute as it was, she had a lot of power in her voice, even back then.

Nice! Great job with the pronunciation, it's been a while since someone say it right. lol
Iine! is one of the early songs, 2nd single released, they wanna make clear don't want to be pigeonholed. Is a super fun party night song with their besties and you got everything you need on this song, from de "Para Para" style, eurobeat and MoiMoi chemistry (Moimoi is Yui and Moa together doing their thing), to a hip hop with 90's look and heavy metal with death growls breakdown, is a beautiful crazy dream and is "Iine" = 👍
Song was part of a single and first collaboration with the band Kiba Of Akiba, they made a cover of one song called "Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai" and Kiba.Of Akiba did Doki Doki Morning, an interesting upbeat tempo version.
Except for certain songs like Headbanger!! and IDZ,. SuMetal doesn't shout those parts you heard during live performance, is always a backing track, same for the growling except for Distortion after 2019, that got collaboration growling of Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy band, sorry for spoilers but none of the Kami Band do growling or any voices on any song.
But the live certainly is a blast and you'll see some difference on dance choreography, again live at Budokan is nice choice.
If you want some details on the backstage of this song, as well 4 more of their early MV, there's a commentary vid made by the girls.
There's another version called Iine! Vega Mix version with different guitar arrangements and change on the lyrics during hip hop part, it was released for the Sakura Gakuin 2011 Nendo Friends album.
Thanks for keep sharing your journey and hope you enjoy an entire BM live concert. Be blessed by the Fox God, put your kitsune up and see you next time 🦊🤘🔥

I get a real kick out of watching folk react to the "Iine!" MV for the first time! LMAO!!! I count four genres: techno, pop, rap, and metal. In my opinion, this song pretty much pegs everyone's "WTF?!" meter! I should say that (and something you should know by now), with Babymetal, expect the unexpected.
A suggestion: to the best of my knowledge, Babymetal has three studio albums (so far): "Babymetal", "Metal Resistance", and "Metal Galaxy". Perhaps you should dig up the track lists of these albums (if you haven't already) and chart your course using that. I should also point out that there are a few songs that Babymetal perform live that aren't on any of their albums. Also, I would suggest that you make the "Legend 1997" concert your go-to for some of their early stuff live. I'll grant you that the majority of the concert has the Babybones miming the instruments (the Kami Band hits the stage for the last five encore songs) but it's still a damn good show (and it does have a live version of "Iine!" which is slightly different than the MV).
    KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

Fantastic reaction and I am glad you liked it. Too bad you figured the correct name of the song and didn’t call it Line like the majority of reactors does. That is always fun to see xd. That switch to rap and then the sick drop to heavy is something I am sure nobody else ever did or even considered and that is exactly what Babymetal is all about. They don’t restrain themselves in any genre and mix whatever they see fit, which is fantastic! Btw I like the idea of the song bringing everyone together, since that is surely a message you can expect from Babymetal. Btw did you notice that the girls were wearing the same outfits as in the Doki Doki Morning video? They still had no huge budget that early on, so they reused the outfits that were partially borrowed. I didn’t check your history but the next song that was released was either Megitsune (which has a fantastic mv) or “Ijime Dame Zetaii” (I am not quite sure of the order), so that would be your next stop if you haven’t checked those out :). Kitsune up and see you in the next one!

Excellent reaction. Pretty close on the pronunciation also. Almost everyone calls it Line. I was smiling so hard to your reactions to those transitions. This one is so good live.

Those transitions were indeed epic. I haven't watched myself for this video yet, but this is one I'm definitely going to have to check. LOL Thanks!

The girls were ridiculously unrestrained when they were younger. 🙂 Thanks for another great reaction! Have you done "Sis Anger" yet? That's pretty much my favorite and arguably their heaviest song. Black Babymetal. (I'll go look in your back catalog... I'm just being lazy) Hehehe Edit: Yeah... you already did... my bad :-)

No worries! That was definitely a heavy one for sure! Can't wait to get back and check out some more Black Babymetal!

Kobametal was experimenting early to develop the sound he wanted. I'll bet you thought their first rap was BxMxCx?!?! There is a commentary video by the girls available on YT. Have you seen the video, where Yui jumped over Moa?
I'm significantly older than you and I have been of "The One" since 2017. Found them on the YT channel FBE along with Blackpink.

It was a good experiment. I haven't gotten to BxMxCx yet nor I have I seen Yui jump Moa yet that I can remember. All in time I suppose! Thanks!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Gee, how many genre's can we smoosh into one song?....I love iine, mostly because its just so fun (and the wtf look on ppls faces when they first hear this as their intro into Babymetal is priceless)..... Not a popular opinion, but I would love to see Su adding screams or growls into her singing arsenal, like Jinjer or Alissa White-Gluz..... Doesn't have to be a lot, but throwing a bit here and there into a song would be pretty cool. About bringing all the fans of different genre together, that's pretty much what they are great at.... You look at their concerts, especially their LA Forum Concert, and you see the crowd.... You have grey bearded old metal heads smiling and headbanging next to some purple spiked hair scene kid or someones kid sister from kindergarden. And basically that's what Koba was aiming for.... Babymetal was like the gateway drug for young girls who are not into metal to be interested in metal. The girls actually did a bunch of commentary videos for iine, headbanger, megitsune, IDZ, and Doki Doki Morning, talking about what it was like to make the music videos.... You should check it out. 🤘🦊🤘

Good reaction. When we watch Doki Doki Morning and Iine I think it's important not to lose sight of the fact that these songs are from the early days of Babymetal, when they were just a sub-unit of Sakura and an experiment of Koba. Its target audience was girls between 10 and 15 years old (Sakura Gakuin's general audience) and the impact on older generations was still far away. In fact, not even the "uniform" of the girls was the one we know in BabyMetal
By the way, if you decide to do Onedari Diasakusen I recommend you do it with English subtitles... it's a song that wins 1000% if you know what they're singing. czcams.com/video/IcgGecO8ORs/video.html

Iine!, is pronounced [ee-ney] not Line. This is Babymetal experimenting with different genre, possibly the most genre into one song. Japanese rave, hip-hop, death metal in one song and EDM. Babymetal can do it all. "BxMxC" is the upgraded version of "Iine". BxMxC is from their 3rd album Metal Galaxy.

Yes the early MV’s especially this and Doki Doki Morning can be confusing but just remember that they were still exploring what direction they were going in. 😁
As far as the LIVE performance of “iine” I
recommend Legend of 1997 Concert. The crowd is really into the performance and knows every line.
    Until next time.
