Just to let you know the typing for fused pokemon with multiple typings depends on the order you've fused them. Since you've fused Squirtel and Mime Jr. in that particular order it will always be a water/fairy type since fairy is Mime Jr.'s secondary typing. If you reverse them it should change it's typing to psychic/water. Basically depending on the typing you want for a fused pokemon you should keep in mind whether you want their primary or secondary typing and then fuse it in that order.
I also think the reverse looks better as the final evolution. Its face will look a little awkward as Wartortle but once it evolves into Blastoise it actually kinda works. I also just think the palette swap and body shape looks much better with Wartortle's body with Mr. Mime's color scheme plus he get Mr. Mimes funny gloves and shoes.

While I’ve played the first Pokémon games, the first game I owned was Pokémon Gold. As far as I remember, I chose the fire starter, could have been the water starter idk, but the save state with the longest playtime, over 600 hours, was with Chikorita. I had a lvl 94 Meganium when I discovered the clone glitch. Then I had 6 lvl 94 Meganium and leveled them all to 100 in the Pokémon league. It was a pain for I could have cloned them at level 100 in the first place and also I couldn’t tell which one was the original anymore.
Today, the game sits at “New Game” with a dead battery fml

Although nobody picks the grass type starters they’re arguably the best choice most of the time because there are so few grass types and the starter allows you to get a good one that would otherwise be unavailable. You could say grass type as a whole is bad but having that option in your PC is objectively better than having a water or fire type starter that you dont use because you found better choices for that type
