I don't speak German, and thought this was a FANTASTIC review! (and I've watched MANY in English) Why all the negatives?? This guy knows his stuff in a musical way. Great job, Stimming!
Stimming ended up getting one and he's using it in all of his new sets (or at least in those that I saw). In a new video by telekom beats he described it as the one drum machine/Sampler he would keep if he would have to only keep one.
I'm writing this comment because this review almost convinced me not to buy one (During months I was comparing so many different Drum Machines, because I needed one which I could use for my live setup and in the studio as well). I finally ended up getting the Digitakt and it was the right decision for me. Here's why:
1. It has overbridge (a beta version which works fine) now. Which means that you can record all of the 8 Tracks separately via USB. I'm making 80% of my drums w/ Digitakt now. I even use it for the productions which are not meant to be played live (I'm not only producing techno but Hip-Hop as well)
2. It is the perfect brain for a live setup. You can control every parameter on your synth and automate it in advance. The 8 drum tracks are way enough for a live track. and w/ Overbridge you are able to save a Pattern on your computer and when you come back from your live set you're able to plug it in and tell the machine to get everything back the way it was before.
3. There is some menu diving and a little learning curve, but the moment you really understand this machine and its menu (it took me about 4 weeks) you can play it like an instrument. I already did some live gigs with real instrumentalists (I made the drums & fx sounds) and it worked fine.
4. Because it's a sampler it can do so much more than just a drum machine. During my Hip Hop Productions I'm often making the melodies and the fx sounds with my digitakt.
Overbridge is no longer in beta i think.

Ja vielen Dank für den Test. Endlich mal ein Test & Tester, wo gewisse Umstände oder Details mal "nicht so geil" sind und das dann auch so ehrlich gesagt wird, ohne etwas schlecht zu machen. So macht´s doch Spaß. :-)

Agreed, the most informative review on this machine so far and its not even in english. It was so interesting and fair that I was willing to read for 30 mins. Great job.
sehr trockenes und ehrliches review
They call the inputs left and right because that is where you put the left and right stereo information in. It will be turned into mono but you could have different information on each track which ends up all on your mono track. Hence the perfect input names "LEFT" and "RIGHT." This is also covered on page 48 of the manual. You can also have the option to select just right or just left or both or whatever you want.
Klasse Review, und auch von Seiten des Electronic-Beats-Teames echt spitze dass ihr den Martin einfach mal machen lasst.
Manchmal (jetzt nicht unbedingt bei euch aber generell) sieht man, dass solche Reviews einfach zu heftig geschnitten sind, das grenzt fast an Pokis Zensurgnome mit der pinken Farbe.
Einfach mal den Menschen sein faszinierendes selbst sein lassen, das ist herrlich finde ich.
Und hut ab vor dem Übersetzer des Videos, die Subs treffen den Nagel auf den Kopf!

Here’s my take on elektron. 20 years ago I got my first elektron gear. No one could teach us. Utube was not what it is today. Mono machine and syd machine plus machine drum where so diff for us to wrap our heads around. At the time I owned 3 large commercial studios. Was making big rock and folk and pop records everyday. Top Producers would look at elektron gear and love it but not be Abel to use it. We had to teach ourselves. Now there is so many gear heads to hat love elektron gear. Sharing what they know with each other on utube. The learning curve is not as bad as before. I love all their gear and own every piece they have. I also own everything else to some vintage so,e not. I’m glad there is a company like elektron. Diff way of being creative. But understand the early adopters in the beginning had it the hardest. Bless ya guys.

The octatrack gives that same clanging sound when you drop it on the table. I believe it comes from the springs in the button assembly.
I got a 2020 model. No clanging sounds at all. I guess they fixed it.
Höre und Sehe den Stimming heute zum ersten mal. Ein sehr guter Ersteindruck. Ein sachlich "stimmiger" Erfahrungsbericht, dass mein Hype auf Digitakt zunächst mal ordentlich gedämpft hat. Vielen Dank dafür. 👍
OS 1.03 ist mittlerweile draussen und somit sollten die meisten angesprochenen Macken behoben sein. Ansonsten ist das Ding eine klare Empfehlung von Stimming.

Ich hab mir zwei Jahre das Portemonnaie blank gekauft: mixer analoge synths wie Model D, Hydrasynth oder tb03, guitar pedals, drum machines wie die tr8s, eine Mpc als Studioherz und ein zwei eurorack module.. Am Ende kam die Digitakt mit nem field recorder und ich überlege wieder alles andere zu verkaufen.. Sound Design technisch lassen sich in kurzer Zeit alle erdenklichen sounds und Rhythmen Schrauben, die man sonst nicht so leicht bekommt. Beim spazieren gehen eine alte rumliegene Schaufel schnappen und auf eine gefrone Fütze (Hans) zimmern: Hats, Toms und Kick im Kasten 😜 das ganze dann vielleicht runter pitchen und reversed mit dem lfo und midi einen rhythmischen flair verleihen und schon klingt es nach interessantem oldschooligem Techno groove.. das alles viel interessanter und organischer als aus anderen synths. Ich lege es euch ans Herz, das Ding kann was!
Achja und noch ein Tipp an Leute die gerade in der selben Falle sitzen, ihr braucht vielleicht gar nichts was "klingt wie" sondern etwas womit ihr musizieren könnt. All diese Motivationskiller in Form von Kabel rumstecken, verzweifelt midi syncen, recording Probleme und so weiter eliminieren und sich limitieren. Hundert Mal gehört und gesagt, aber da ist einfach was dran, dass muss man erfahren. In der Mpc sind Millionen mehr Möglichkeiten vorhanden Effekte zu nutzen, zu mixen und arrangieren.. Im Endeffekt kommt es aber darauf an das es gut klingt und das kann man mit der digitakt viel schneller erreichen. Trotzdem werde ich vielleicht noch ein weiteres Elektron Gerät dazu stellen und den Rest dafür raus werfen, aber Hauptsache die Funktionen sitzen spack beieinander und bedürfen weniger Handling, damit es sofort los gehen kann mit dem hinhören und spielen.

Also Links und Rechts als Eingang macht dahingehend Sinn, dass sich die beiden Inputs beim Samplen separat wählen lassen - Also kann ich zwei Geräte anschließen und so beide getrennt von einander aufnehmen. ;)

Ich hab Stimming lieb.
Mich wundert das der Digitakt für Stimming überhaupt von interesse ist. Er ist ja irgendwie nur ein halber Octatrak und nicht mal ein halber Drumsynth. Aufs Geld muss der werte Herr Stimming bestimmt auch nicht so achten also...aber die Review ist natürlich der Hammer. Mega sympathischer Typ und nachvollziehbare Kritik.

V1.04 is great. I have been messing around full on for three days. No crashing or glitches, despite the fact I have imported a ton of samples.

What do you all think about Digitakt today? Enjoyed every single Stimming review ever seen. But this one was loveless. Sounds like 700€, must be Pro. But criticised any of the features people could miss in V1.0. Felt like Stimming had no desire and generally no interest in this product.

Für mich läuft das Gerät wunderbar. Hab ich seit einem Jahr und bin ganz glücklich.
What's the deal with the Digitakt only being in mono, but it has a L/R input and output? I was considering one but that's kind of a deal breaker because I use a lot of stereo samples. Weird choice by them but I guess they want you to get an Octotrack if you want stereo.

It's output is stereo, you can pan and apply (stereo) delay and reverb to the tracks. As for the LR inputs they are either to sample from two sources or to sum a stereo signal to mono without missing half the content

An sich ist es schon ein klasse Gerät aber im endeffekt hat er schon recht. Bis auf die Parameter locks bietet das teil nichts was andere nicht auch können. Der unterschied zum Octa oder Rythm ist in meinen Augen minimal. Aber mit sicherheit war es für Elektron mal wieder an der Zeit was neues raus zu hauen. Das er allerdings das Reverb mit seinem Bricasti vergleicht ist schon hart. Ich höre auf jeden fall für mich raus das das Teil nichts ist was man sich unbedingt anschaffen sollte.
+Live World es ist ne ganze Ecke günstiger und stellt wohl den Einstieg in die Elektron Welt dar.
das ist schon richtig aber die begeisterung für etwas wirklich neues fehlt irgendwie. Nicht falsch verstehen ich bin selbst ein großer Elektron fan aber innovation ist in dem kleinen kasten nicht wirklich zu erkennen. Der Rythm war ein Knaller oder der A4 aber das hier stellt in meinen augen lediglich ne andere Version vom großen Bruder dar. Ich würde ihn trotzdem jedem ans Herz legen auch wenn ich ihn selber nicht nehmen würde da mit der Octa mehr zusagt.

I don't think the 'small room' reverb settings sound like a plug in. Pretty decent to my ears. No mention of pattern chaining too? Very quick to mention being limited to 4 bars but you can chain to your heart's content (albeit the actual chain will be lost when you turn off).
Score Mix Agreed. I have a ton of hardware but also released many eps that were 100% ITB. The only analogue element has been via mastering. Labels have often asked what hardware I used on them! IMO people sometimes use the use of plug ins to moan about what is ultimately a lack of production skills. Not saying that about Stimming though. His stuff sounds great!
Hauptsache erstmal den Reverb mit einem Gerät vergleichen, dass über 3000€ mehr kostet - alles klar.

lol, das rasseln ist ein bisschen tiefer geworden. unverständlich warum elektron nicht wenigstens für den sequenzer velocity sensitive Pads anstatt dieser klacker knöpfe verbaut hat. Die Digitakt wäre ernste konkurrenz für eine MPC, aber so ist sie bei mir erst mal raus.
+Manuel Walter scheint keinen groß zu stören wenn man sieht wer das Ding alles im Einsatz hat.
ich finde diese art von buttons viel besser weil man haptische response hat... lieb ich auf meiner op1 auch... ich mag einfach pads nicht - auf meiner maschine is velocity immer auf fixed

What i find strange is why not use a higher bit rate and sample rate? 16bit 48khz is so 1990’s
use it for u advantage sound desing wise...and also if for example if u preppin samples for live sets they should already be good,like low cut mono comp..... overall it is enough but yes u right...
oh and i feel like some lower resolution cut good thru the mix when everythings pumping analog
