- To coincide with the long-awaited release of the new Ableton Push 3, Stimming makes a one-off welcome return to Electronic Beats to offer his thoughts on the latest version of this hardware (now also standalone) instrument and controller.
Push 3 features 64 MPE-enabled pads which respond to finger pressure and placement through X/Y axes for nuanced and expressive playing. External instruments, synths and effects can also be connected directly via the built-in audio interface and recorded into Live or Push. CV/Gate connections are provided as well, so Push can easily be combined with modular setups. The processor, hard drive and battery can be replaced over time to keep Push on the cutting edge of technology and if you decide to buy the controller first, you can still make it a standalone version later with the upgrade kit.
Stimming took a lengthy look at Ableton Push 3 across this 63 minute video review and within you can see and hear what he likes and dislikes about it.

Stimming is not the usual youtuber. His music comes way before this and to have him explain instruments is something very special. This is not just a review but also a composing and mixing quick lesson. Thank you Stimming and TEB.
thank you!
Stimming is a secret T-mobile marketer.
Super secret as you can see 😂
Yeah, ofcourse it’s informational to learn the specs etc but how it’s actually usable is very hard to catch in a video and he knows how to do that
200% agree. go Stimming
This guy encapsulates the idea of staying in touch with your inner child. What a delight!
Stimming is an absolute treasure. That second beat is so good! Would love to see that released!
Stimming: person in electronic music I'd most like to hang out with for a couple of hours because it would be interesting, inspiring, educational and ... hilarious 😆
Great, now I'll have to buy a Maschine plus and a perkons to have an idea on how big the push 3 is

LOL
@@ElectronicBeatsTV haha thanks for the laugh.
Your enthusiasm is absolutely infectious. Already ordered mine.
This was insanely entertaining to watch. Always down for more of this. Edit: love these long form factor reviews + jams the most
49:50 convert the sample into Simpler. Slice it, choose poly and convert that into a drum rack. This way you can change pitch and add effects per slice/drumsound. It's awesome.
I always liked Stimming's production, I had no idea he was such a delightfully quirky dude too. This might be my favorite of the swath of Push 3 videos today.
I'm so depressed these days, but everytime I see Stimming, his boyish enthusiasm to his new toy, laughter and dance, makes me smile.
Can say about the internets what ya want but being able to watch such an incredible artist compose a song a few inches away is mind blowing & just a privilege - and all that for a free like!! 🤯❤

Oh Stimming. You get the Push 3 and Stimming. What more can you ask for.
It’s so fun and relaxed to discover along with you. Your such an inspiration. We can hang out all day with you and walk through a world of sonic adventures! Always a good time. 😊
For $2000 i would ask for arrangement view capability, VST hosting, More ins/outs without another device, much better battery life (2.5 hour is a joke) and touch screen. Push 3 is a definite no from me. It caters to the hobbies playing around at music for a lot of money. There are much better stand alone devices for that purpose.
@@NimbleX-MC What devices would u recommend instead ?
@@NimbleX-MC And which are those? Mine's not a rhetorical question as I was a bought to buy an alternative product.
What would you with gun to head, choose instead?
@@NimbleX-MC Yeah what are you proposing then?
Always love a Stimming review. Awesome mate 🙌🎶
No matter what tool Stimming uses he ALWAYS get Stimming sound. Such a mad genius!!!
Wow, I really watched a lot electronic music gear related videos lately and this here is by far the most exciting one. Such a nice and thoughtful presenter and incredible musician. I leaned a lot about music and the push. Thanks for that.
loving your enthusiasm!!
Amazing review of the awesome device, thank you very much!
Martin, thank you for the detailed review as always. Your insight always proves invaluable when evaluating new gear - nobody else gets into the weird details in the same way! This has put the final nail in my Maschine+ coffin sadly. I do love it, but it regularly frustrates me at the later stages of a beat becoming a song.
How you can take such a complicated device and boil it down very quickly...all while expressing the joy of creativity...is deeply inspiring.
My minor frustration with this is that ableton built a custom version of linux for ableton to run the Push 3 but it doesn't have any plans to release ableton for linux. 😮💨
I think you sort of answered your own question imho ... Ableton had to make a *custom* Linux distro to run Ableton performantly ... meaning that "Ableton on Ubuntu", or arch, is not necessarily gonna work well or consistently. Now, if Ableton released their special flavor of Linux, on the other hand ...
Seriously if they would release ableton to linux I would happily have a single-purpose computer in the studio, like an Atari.
This sounds so stupid (on ableton's part) I fainted.
One of the best vidéos that you did!you really enjoyed and feel like a kid with a new toy!😂thanks for this review!so far the best and pure review in CZcams!Greetings from Paris my friend 😎😎
Thanks for the joy and inspiration @MStimming @ElectronicBeatsTV! Can't wait to get my hands on one! The Push 3 looks packed with great ideas & connectivity but I'm most excited about the MPE enabled pads, this tech brings a whole new level of expression to making music with software instruments!! 🤩
Easily the best video on the push as a prospective buyer. Thank you!!
two legends in one video, love it
I love it, amazing possibilities, thank you!
Four... Five... Six times I think I've watched this now? On each occassion I'm fully entertained like as if I've watched it for the first time.
It's simply a pleasure watching Stimming's amazingly captivating reactions to this thing! He's hilarious but also I feel quite authentic.
This is the best 'review' of Push 3 and will continue to be the best until they release Push 4!
Ordered my unit today. Looking forward to receiving & playing with it...
Great to see how things are moving forward 💯😊
I‘m not especially interested in the Push 3, but I could watch you interacting with gear for hours. Thank you for that!
Very interesting character Stimming! Great and entertaining review..!
The one note MPE variations are just game changing. Being able to jam on a single sample sounds so expressive.
Ok FINE, the MPE drum stuff from about 23:30 has got me hooked! ;) Mr Stimming as always is an absolute delight - fantastic.
Very good calm review.
We need more Stimming in our lives.
You have at least 63 mins for now 😉
Please ask him if he is open to adopt people@@ElectronicBeatsTV
Eyo Martin DU bist soooowassss von mein MUSIK-PÄDAGOGE! GRANDE wie du das immer alles erklärst! PAUSCHAL über all Deine VIDEOS gesprochen! LOVE IT!!!!
You got to love this series with Stimming. He's such a nerd and he has so much fun doing the things, it's infectious and I love it. At the same time it's very informative because he gives insights and you can see one of best producers in electronic music at work.
The device looks/sounds good...this will be a great tool for many Live users I think.

@@ElectronicBeatsTV already watched all of them. Of course :)
Haha he's like a kid opening his presents on christmas morning xD
Stimming! you remind us the true meaning and expression of electronic music! sometimes it gets lost in between all the vanity and nightlife. Thank you for your musician's/artist's perspectives
52:08 Ich hab jetzt vom Lachen immer noch die Tränen in den Augen. Göttlich. Das ganze Video ist einfach Stimming ;)
as always.... this is how fun in music making actually looks like... perfect stimmung with stimming:-)
@3:33 i'm only 3 mins in and its the best and most informative review so far, gj (now just another hour to go)
Oh boy this is exactly what I've been waiting for! Edit: Completely agree with the midi standards thing! Drives me mad having multiple adapters.
Mini midi type A is now the agreed standard and ableton used this standard
@@The_Invisible_Man All good and well, but go tell Arturia & Novation. Still plenty of type B devices around.
Okay, but going to need some hints on those drum samples. Beautiful kit. And a beautiful video!
Custom tailored!? 😏
That first music example was a mix of Bjork and Boards of Canada. Great review and presenting style.
Stimming is such a wonderfull, enthusiastic, talented and nice person..
Been listening to Stimming for over a decade. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I agree, manual warping is really needed!
Stimming is the cool kid among the nerds and the nerd among the cool kids.♥
hihi, I like that
Stimming is the best music device reviewer on CZcams.
05:00 amazing beat and strings!
I have been looking at getting one of these for awhile and this video made me more excited. Now I just need to materialize $2,000 for the whole experience. Watching Stimming speak about and experience I became overjoyed and felt the excitement.
Have been waiting for this 😈
Here we are
31:07 - I would love to see you trying Osmose for the first time ;). Great review and overview btw, so entertaining for me to watch!
the good thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from
Love this review. Re TRS MIDI - A couple of smaller makers (including us) have started to implement inputs that accept both standards and have a switch for the output. In terms of electronics parts it's a solution that adds maybe 50 cents cost per device but solves the problem. I hope more makers just do this - makes life easier for all of us and the standards issue is gone.
No need the standard is type A going forward
thank you, exactly what I meant
Honestly such a funny guy. Great musician too big love for this review ❤️
Man you’re my favorite.. the jam is insane.
Some one on Elektronauts also mentioned that the ADAT works well with Expert Sleepers ES-8 which will give out lots more CV and Gate i/o
Wow! how you think it works for a live set? my main device by now its the octatrack, and I have not any complain, but this push looks amazing.
How its the behavior and the UI to perform maybe 16 songs? it have programable shortcuts to navigate the grid from one song to another?
or a kind of grouping, as the banks in the OT?
jaja sorry by my english... I hope you understand what I´m asking.
Thanks!
The new Push 3 looks awesome. It looks like everything I need and I'm glad I waited.
i was so close to buying a push 2 because they kept so tight lipped about push 3, would have been piiiiissed if id just bought it and this came out, push 3 looks awesome definately going to buy
Let us know when you receive it how it worked out.
Amazing! Tks for doing that in a funny way.. Cheers
a very good review thank you . one down side in this updated push version that the push 2 users not getting a lot of good things from push 3 . hopefully with the time we will get at least small part of capabilities from push 3 to 2 or updated instruments ...... and yes your kicks and percusions in to a sound pack in mother ableton it will be wonderful 😍😁
well, I suppose the mpe grid is a huge step forward
For me the MPE capability is reason enough to switch from Push 2 to 3. This way I can probably get rid of my Erae Touch and regain some space on my table.
I always trust this man to do an honest review.
Are the ADAT i/o capable of S/MUX for 96K?
Stimming first person to play Push 3 on my timeline - feels right.
Hi Mr. Stimming.
Stimming!! So easy for one to start producing music because of this video and this passion of his!
Amazing review a for an amazing…. Instrument!
I floored, finally. Can it use the envelop surround suite and the surround effects? 8 outputs over adat out for octaphonics? Then i need this box!
Amazing demo! Everything looks awesome to me. I'm bit concerned about the buttons being hard to use - I didn't like them on Push2 and I was hoping they would do it more clicky like the Native Instruments one. Especially with such sensitive pads.
The reviewer in Sound on Sound basically loved the device but alas, said the pads while better than Push 2 - I have Push 1, aren't that good.
Just insanity. Something this critical - pad feel and response and "not that great."
@@allancerf9038 Yeah I saw that. I have the Push 3 and I have to say the buttons are better in the sense it's no longer a problem but the feel could be way better.
Wonderful review. Waiting for firmware 1.2 to pull the trigger 👍
cant wait for your first film score
Great review. Just to say, you can plug a USB to ethernet dongle into the standard USB host socket and it will connect that way. This is useful if you don't have wifi, or if your wifi is too slow. Your computer just needs to be on the same network, eg connected to the same router.
Also, about the 65w powerbanks, some powerbanks doing 65w over USB-C, wont necessarily do so as 20v 3.25amp. This detail is just as important to look out for.
'Capture' is a great feature, its been part of Live for a while, but the capture button is unique to the Push 3. What i would like to see is a form of capture implimented for audio. eg 'Skip-back' as its called on the SP-404.
One other thing, the Push has 8gb of ram on its NUC element unit running at 15w. There are NUC elements with 16gb, i7 spec running at 28w, but of course more power means more heat and less battery life.
BTW seeing Ableton Live on the 'Surface' tablet blew my mind for a minute. For just a minute i thought this was an IOS/android app no one was suppose to see yet. ;0)
Thank you, master!))
That was so wonderful! Thanks for sharing with us!
Question - how can one go about thinking about making chords with this push pad? I see you are so confident with the way you play multiple points at once; is there a way to intuit making chords that sounds good with this?
Anyone with a bit of musical intuition that can speak to a beginner!
Switch to 96khz and then put bit reduction on master track, nice trick 👍I won't recommend anyone to switch on 96khz in Ableton as you have an oversample modes in most built-in devices to fix aliasing artefacts if there are any. There is a great video by Dan Worrall about sample rates with a detailed explanation why you may or may not use higher audio rates (short answer you don't need higher audio rates). But other than that part your review was very interesting to watch. Thank you for your unbiased opinion! Great part with criticism on the device shortcomings which I totally agree with.
finally arrived, yeah!
Dear Stimming, please, suggest Ableton team to implement the following naming scheme: they implement speech recognition engine and you use some mic input for this and you also would be able to recall rename function with some voice commands as cllip/channel/set rename or so.
The coolest pers. I don't fucking understand German or English, but I'm happy to watch his videos. Don't lose your mojo bro🤘
Beautiful track
Amazing, can’t wait for price drop on Push2, let’s go!!!
Maybe used but hard to find new now
@@ElectronicBeatsTV used one, not 2much used one- indeed (;
Hey Stimming,
das Mikrophon welches du im Video verwendest ist nicht in deinen Recommendations auf Thomann. Welches ist das? Danke dir ☺️
43:18 This is the stimming gold I come for :D
How the pads feel when moving finger on it? I wonder because I tried Seaboard Rise and it was fun but after while it was too sticky and really hurt my finger joints.
What's the laptop/tablet with the touchscreen you had Ableton on ? Also, there's no arrangement view whatsoever you could record your performance into ?
Great video 🎉
I do have one question tho
Are all the songs we’re hearing in your video, coming FROM the push 3 ? I mean, are they coming from the push 3 as you receive it out of the box ?
He uses some of his own samples and sampled synths.
I wonder if MPE functionality would be compatible with the Overbridge, but I guess that’s on Elektron to decide. Also 8x8 grid seems a bit too tight to play synths rather than a drum kit. Maybe if there was 16x8 variant, something like the Linnstrument, but sadly it seems very unlikely. Thoughts of DT/DN owner.
Hes way more nerdy than his music...i mean it as a compliment, in a very intelligent, funny and competent way. Impressive video.
Dope but when does it choke? how many tracks, samples etc.. can it handle in standalone before it struggles? how good is the processor? This is the biggest problem with all the new standalone groovebox daw things.. Akai added a couple new synths and Romplers to the system and it slammed shut hard when you had just a few on the go. I know it's a bit different but what can and can't I do with the standalone
Trying to get away from bright lights in the studio, and they make the brightest key pads I have ever seen. Any way to turn that down? :-P
Eh, too expensive for me anyway. Think I would rather spend it on some synth.
Great gear and review though, thanks guys.
Stimming is the dude. Mad skill, zero ego.
Love Stimming
Lovin the drums. Is that part of the spitfire expansion pack?
Wow! The old Ken is back 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Thanks for a nice review 😊 I am searching for info regarding class compliant and iOS , i wonder if I can connect Logic Pro for iPad so I can use the vintage organ echt in push , it would be awesome 😊
NESTE MOMENTO FIQUEI RENDIDO A ESTA BELA MÁQUINA! OBRIGADO STIMMING!!!!!!!!!
Not worth upgrading from push 2 for my use but a really nice option for the folk who like to play with pads.
Also,
Stimming is my favorite producer so just watching him jam away on a new toy is always a treat. 🙏
The best reviews by Stimming! Thanks man
Hi, Mr Stimming! :) Nice 👍 Hardware-Product! The interesting 🤔 thing that, how to prepare live-dj-set with this push3 in the easiest way, is this the same thing like doing it with a computer (preprogrammed on the grid tracks for playing envelopers live) ? Hmm
quick question could you connect air pods to the push for mixing? that would be so sick!!
It would be really helpful if Ableton had a "snapshots"-style feature like Maschine. Where you could save your settings in a scene, tweak anything as you like, and then create a new scene with those new settings and then be able to jump back and forth and arrange as needed. I feel like it wouldn't be that hard to implement.
you can do that
Gran Stimming
wow, great!
Nice!!!
