Good points Kris brother i think some of the issues now is people are to quick to blame the detector not what they are doing wrong .......Slow and steady all the time no matter what machine you use .....My tip would be when in a new field do the edges first people over many years would walk around the edges of fields rather then walking though any crop .... Don't always provide finds but thats when ya luck comes into play 😀

I have a mettle detector, I got one for my birthday in the seventies, by request, and found some ten pences and pennies and fifty pences and bought some mars bars and cans of coke at the time and found a medieval strap end and a 1695 princess of wales 2 pence. I think I've got the bug. I have dug up the odd bean can and a hoard turned out to be a duly tin

Started on a field the first time i found literally loads of everything . After over a year managed to get permission to dig the field joining it I’ve struggled to find anything but still not given up . But i can imagine its very easy to give up . Brilliant advice as always 👍
i did 6 fiels all next to each other and ive about grided them all found nothing really and one field i found a gold ring at one side and two silver coins at the other side and the others produced nothing + they are all on a big slope so its hard going and very easy to give up on it
and i must add i was on version v0.71 for 4 fields then i put 1.0 on and i found teh silver and gold and then gone to 1.01 and found nothing every one says 1.0 was bad but i got my better finds with it so its hard to say if i have missed stuff on other versions or if i just got real lucky on 1.0 this is on the deus 2

I think it's the slowing down of your steps that are most important, you'd be surprised how much you miss walking too fast.
Wrong sensitivity settings will also make you miss those deeper or smaller targets. Actively ramp up the settings until you get false signals with it. Learn the false signals which usually ring only one way on a Garret Ace.
I went over some ground once, found loads of stuff, then went over the same ground on almost max sensitivity. I got lot's of false signals but i was amazed at what i had been missing. Buckles and smaller targets, probably deeper targets too.

Orr you could have a field of hoards, finds everywhere, all the luck and techniques but a bad detector...
Same 2 fields I've found dozens of things. My dad going like 10 things. Mainly nails and big iron chunks.. it didn't even find my phone. Got a 30s and one 60s over my phone in more than 10 swings
I've found a lot of buttons, cloth seal, coins and more
I use a minelab x terra pro (about £280) and my dad uses a generic £100 GC-1037

Spot on Chis, I was out on Saturday on a club did, got a silver thimble early on, nothing for hours. Was about to go home and decided to do another field for the last half hour as I needed to get home. On my first signal I got a half cut Henry 111 hammered 1245 ish. Was so chuffed and was about to give up earlier. So glad I didn't go home.

V. concise. Added point that flood plains, marshes too at times when flooded leave sediment that seem to speed up the descent of said coin. I must do more practical but there could be a pattern there. One would expect reclaimed land to be a bit similar and valley bottoms or places of accumulation rather than erosion😊

something iv noticed and it has taken me some time to work this out is watching a couple of detectorists who seem to favor what I describe as the golf swing method on group digs who have a great finds rate at the end of the day and will have a lot more finds and trash than me at the end of the day and one other method is using a small coil but only doing a very narrow swing in front of them by going at a very fast pace covering a huge amount of land in comparison id have done half the length of a field and they will have done a lap of the field so these people are in fact pretty selfish and looking out themselves as they are only scratching the surface top couple of inches as they don't use the slow and low method and potentially they are lowering everyone's finds rate and chances of finding some goodies that are not 10" down so you spend a lot longer digging deeper holes as they have already scooped up all the shallow targets.
The more research you do on the land you want to dig, the better the change of you finding stuff

First point - done to death - If the field NEVER gets ploughed - ie pasture/grazing - then it can be, because nothing gets moved around! When I first got the permission I have now, I was finding big bits, tent pegs, and of course 'tractor parts', as well as the odd coin or button. But after four years, I'm down to tiny bits - airgun pellets, 5mm washers, tiny bits of foil, etc, because I'm digging the feeble little peeps - or nothing.

My advice for everything: Don't believe the youtube videos you see from the popular metal detectorists with regards to finds and time. They (and quite rightly) cut out the dull moments between finds. They could be walking a field for an hour or more and only pull out nails and ring pulls.
Or even days of going without finding anything!
You couldn't of put it anymore realistic then that great advice 😉
Another thing is to talk to the land, feel it even. For instance out a few weeks ago, said to myself "Haven't found a bullet in ages" next 3 signals a .22 casing .303 casing and a LIVE .303 Handed it to the police. The ground felt my thoughts. True story.
Beginner error, duh; you should ask for gold.

I'm sorry to ask this question here but , in an earlier CZcams video you said you don't do reviews on machines which are no good, however, you did do a review on the scope 9000 or whatever it was lol, please don't think I'm having a dig, I'm not.
Please could you consider reviewing the new Simplex ultra?, It is a direct competitor to the minelab xterra pro, and to bo honest, may even be better 😲.
