- Take a trip with us down Northumberland Street and see the shops, the way it has changed. Every Christmas people flocked to Northumberland Street to do their Christmas shopping and see the famous Fenwick window.
It once had cars and buses running up and down, but now the street has been pedestrianised and only delivery vans can use the street during certain hours of the day.
Newcastle is such a special place, no place like it.. but the feeling is changing now. Can not put my finger on what it is, just feels like its heartbeat it starting to beat less and less and its got nothing to do with the Football. The city of Newcastle.. still better off than the other majority of places in U.K. though which are now becoming empty buildings, ruins that are to let and high streets of charity shops.
I visited Newcastle city centre back in 1994. Don’t remember the exact location, but we had a meal at Pizza Hut. I’m sure it was near Monument. When I visited Newcastle again in 2012, I didn’t see any Pizza Hut in the Monument area, so it must have been closed at some point.
Pizza Hut used to be on Grainger Street, it closed and is now Cream's I think. I am not sure but I think there is a Pizza Hut at the Gate.
@@ThroughaGeordieLens Yes, I remember Pizza Hut at the Gate when I visited Newcastle in 2018. Do you know when the Pizza Hut in Grainger street closed down?
@@Trond_travels I think it closed about 2014 or 2015
@@Trond_travels yes that is still there in the gate
The death of the high street is coming to a town or city near you. People get out to the shops. Use cash! Don’t just shop online.
Truth
More flats, more student accommodation! Not good!
So sad to see the city become ruins before our very eyes
