    My review: mynexttablet.com/microsoft-su...
    The Microsoft Surface Go 4 is an excellent choice if you're looking for a 10-inch Windows tablet. It offers a pretty display, a high-quality design, an excellent Surface Pen and a good keyboard. The performance is very good, especially for office work, but I can't recommend it as a gaming tablet or for graphic work. It's also a shame that it's quite expensive.

    Got Surface Go 3. I love how portable it is, I can move and work anywhere. Speed is good enough for now. Just wish it got USB A ports. I hope Go 5 or 6 would be much more powerful.

    More screen area would be very welcome and the thick bezels are disappointing. I really like the compact size of my Surface Go 2 and believe there would be a market for a 11-12 inch Surface tablet, i.e. to complement the Surface Pro.

    I waited for 2 years for the Go 4 to be released, only to be underwhelmed at the specs and a bit shocked at the price. I own a Samsung Tab S8 and absolutely love Samsung Notes and the S Pen, but using the tablet as laptop substitute is awful. DeX has potential, but Android just isn't suitable for desktop-like productivity. It looks like I'll have to wait another 2 year for Microsoft to release something powerful enough to meet its asking price.

    I'm on my 2nd Surface Go Gen 1. It will be made obsolete with the incompatibility of the CPU for Windows 11.
    I already transitioned to Mac in 2020 with the release of M1 chips (M1 Mac Mini), but I still want a Windows Machine.
    What should I do?
    I don't need or want a laptop. I like the 2 in 1 design of the Surface Go as it fits my wants and needs.

    The issues with Windows 8 were in part because the hardware was not ready for it. The knee-jerk move to Windows 10 was the death of Windows tablets. Everyone has forgotten Window 8.1, it was great for me. The tablet version worked really well. Without a good tablet OS, there is no demand to develop the Windows tablet, and Microsoft is just milking it. It's a shame.

    11:18 I use a surface GO 3 daily. I develop on this portable tablet a compiler using IntelliJ and VScode. The tablet is ideal for programming while being on the move. I use it regularly on the airplane and most importantly on the train but also in lounges or outdoors occasionally. It is fast enough to run these applications and to run various emulators. The most important feature of the GO is the 10.3" form factor. What I don't get from your review is how the N200 having 2 cores and in total 4 logical cores is an improvement versus the i3 or the 6500y with only 2 logical cores. I assume that the GO 4 is faster in multitasking. Has less bottlenecks when there are too many processes running in parallel.

    Spending more and buying a laptop and tablet combo will give you a far better experience than these two-in-ones that compromise even with Android and iPadOS, but more so with Windows in tablet mode. So, an ASUS OLED/MB Air and a Galaxy Tab S9/iPad would cover you for every eventuality versus an often frustrating experience on the Surface Go. Obviously, you need a larger budget, but as an investment in your business, college, or life, the combo is best & you can thank me later.

      The GO is perfect for travel and light use when you prefer the full laptop experience in a portable form. Still use my GO 2 for travel in 2024, android and ipad are awesome but not if you dont want to compromise a full PC experience on the go. Yeah it sucks for heavy tasks but my nice PC and Mac Pro is what I use at home. Go also is a cool device to watch youtube video's on the side as a 2nd screen by on my desk or walking around the house, that kickstand is really really nice.

    love this device and form factor however its such a pity that over the past 5 years performance has not changed at all Device would have much required an N305 at the very least instead of an N200. Also to add insult to injury the improvement over the surface 3 (atom x5 z8700 based) is also not so incredible given the cost increase of cpu's from the atoms to the core series

    Really disappointed by the direction Microsoft is taking with this tablet. The design and specs peaked with the Go 2 and its just becoming "worst" with each new version. Or at best it has stagnated yet remained overpriced for what's on offer beyond the premium build quality. If I need a business laptop with small specs, I could just go with any other sub $200-$300 Windows laptop and get similar or better performance while remaining durably inexpensive. Surface Go started off as the "cheap" Surface Pro option to get more people into the ecosystem but its now becoming a niche, expensive product. Doesn't help that the keyboard and pen are sold separately so even if the tablet was cheap enough for regular consumers, the entire package makes it a step or two too expensive compared to any other better specced Windows/Android/iPadOS tablets. The Surface Go doesn't make sense to me anymore.

    The best thing about Windows tablet is that it has the longest software support of any tech spanning roughly 2 generations but also getting similar updates to Windows, which could stretch to years. There aren't many 10 inch size alternatives tho. One I could think of is the Alldocube iWork GT. Weird name and not as good as Microsoft Surface in build, but definitely another alternatives. Unless you want 2-in-1 of course.

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy Před 5 měsíci +2

      yeah, but the issue with Windows tablets is battery longevity... And you don't want a tablet to stayed plugged in like a desktop because the battery dies quickly. I have had dozen of surface devices and clones there of, as well as every iPad pro and a lot of Android tablets... And X86 generates more heat and therefore kills battery health much sooner than with ARM devices. And in most cases batteries are not user replacable. Maybe Windows on Arm will solve this issue.

    • @joelconolly5574
      @joelconolly5574 Před 5 měsíci

      @@_Digitalguy True. Especially when it comes to Intel while AMD is slightly better in those regards. But x86 is still not there in terms of efficiency. I guess we can only wait and see how they tackle this issue.

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy Před 5 měsíci

      @@joelconolly5574 I agree about AMD. I moved my desktop to AMD and it's dead quiet. Unfortuntely most Windows tablets are still Intel. There are SD 8cx gen 3 tablets (pro 9 5G, Robo & Kala), but with the new annoucement of the SD Elite it's probably worth waiting at this point (even if I doubt these chips will come to something of the size of a surface go in the next couple of years). As far as current tablets are concerned, if I had to bet what the situation will be in 10 years, I doubt my go 2 will have enough battery life left... (and I am not even sure Windows 11 will be supported by then) . By contrast my Tab S9 will probably still have good battery life thanks to ARM and to Samsung battery protection (my S4 from 5 years ago still has great battery life) and end of support in 5 years won't be an issue since security is not much of an issue on mobile devices and Android apps work fine many years after end of software support. I am not as confident about my M1 iPad pro, but it might still outlast my Surface go 2.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England Před 5 měsíci +3

      It depends on the user's case. If you are 75% a tablet user, then Android or iPadOS would be a better choice due to their significantly better app support. Also, Windows tablets could be better optimised, and Intel isn't a great option for tablets. Many OEMs are ditching them; Dell has cancelled their 2-in-1 XPS. I suspect they will go to WOA tablets with the new Snapdragon X Elite.

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy Před 5 měsíci

      @@andyH_Englandagreed, most of the time Android and iPad work better. But it can be the best option for some niche cases. For my evening activity (dance teaching) I needed a tablet that had a pen (to take paiements and making other annotations in Word), had a headphone jack for when I needed to connect to a sound system and decent speakers for when I had no speakers (private classes) and run whatsapp. I used to use a 9.7 iPad first and a 10.5 later and for whatsapps I had to remove into a windows desktop at home. With this I can have whatsapp directly and file management is much better. Android has whatsapp for tablets and decent file management but inking on words is annoying as you need to activate it all the time, while it's automatic on iPads and on Windows. Battery life is not as good, but I charge it every night. And speakers are not as good, but I take a tiny (airpods case size) speakers which is more powerful than any tablet speaker. And I dont' need to take a jack adapter, contrary to modern tablets. So far it has been the best compromise, but for general use, especially at home, a S9 or iPad pro are much better.

    The intel chip and the outdated design are really pushing me away. I mean this thing is begging for an Arm chip. But instead, we get some low powered crappy intel chip that's going to give you terrible battery life. I mean how is that Apple and Samsung are putting in chips that 3 and 4x faster for the same price? And the design. Next to.... any modern tablet this thing looks so bad. don't even get me started on the 60hz refresh rate. Microsoft couldn't at least have reduced the bezel size?? Idk, I don't mean man I'm just turn of Microsoft basically rereleasing the same devices with the most minimal spec bump you've ever seen, it's just frustrating.
