My all time favorite movie in my 34 years of living, hands down. In order to appreciate this film, you have to understand the deeper meaning behind it. Don’t just get pissed off because you thought there were going to be monsters and there wasn’t. Watch it a second time and you will view it in a totally different way. TRUST me.

Yes the paid for the land to be a no fly zone, you can see it in one of the news papers or maps in the guard post at the end of the film
They did NOT pay for anything. The older adults SNUCK onto a park/refuge type area that is owned by the GOVERNMENT. Later, they had children, but they LIED to them to try to trick them into never leaving the village so that their children would never find out the truth.

That’s the twist of the movie. The whole movie, the audience is lead to believe they’re watching villagers from the 19th century but in the end, it’s actually modern day because the elders who created this village wanted it to be like this to shelter their loved ones from todays evil society.
